Attention: Media Members and Opposing Schools Since the consolidation of the University of Detroit and Mercy College in 1990, UDM athletic teams have found themselves referred to in many different forms. In order to maintain consistency, we ask that the media continue to refer to us as UDM -- or use Detroit or Detroit Titans -- and eliminate the use of such abbreviations as U-D, U of D Mercy, Detroit Mercy, University of Detroit, etc. When refering to Detroit women's intercollegiate athletic teams, please do not use the term "Lady Titans". All of our teams should be called the Titans. Thank you for your cooperation and your continuing coverage of the Detroit Titans.

The 2010-11 UDM Men’s Tennis Yearbook is a production of the Detroit Sports Information Department. The guide was written and designed by Sports Information Assistant Joel Walrath and edited by the Sports Information Department. Photos by Tim Busch and UDM Sports Info.

Men’s Tennis Coaching Staff Grant Asher begins his fourth year with the Titans and third as the head coach of the men’s tennis team after being hired in November of 2007 as the men’s leader. Asher was an assistant on the women’s team prior to working with the men.

Grant Asher (3rd Year) Michigan State, ‘92 UDM Record 13-25 (2 Years)

In his three years as head coach, UDM has reached the Horizon League tournament each year. Under his direction, the Titans have claimed back-to-back HL Player of the Year honors with Pjotrs Necajevs taking the yearly honor in his two seasons in the Motor City. Asher also helped newcomer Cesar Escobar Serrano come in at mid-year to post a 6-1 league mark and earn second team All-League honors. He also saw Detroit get recognition from the Midwest coaches as his No. 1 doubles team of Necajevs and Alex Latosinsky advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2009 ITA Midwest Regionals defeating the 12th-seeded Wisconsin tandem in the process. In his first year, coach Asher quickly got to work recruiting the first men’s tennis team since 1995, forming a seven-man roster. Working with five true freshmen and two transfer juniors, Asher led Detroit to a 5-13 record in the program’s first varsity campaign in 13 years. During the way, he helped mentor Pjotrs Necajevs to win five Horizon League Player of the Week honors as well as freshman Dustin Goldenberg take the weekly accolade once. Necajevs was ultimately named the conference’s Newcomer and Player of the Year after tallying a 25-4 singles, all at No. 1, including a perfect 7-0 mark in the league. Asher teaches professionally at Franklin Athletic Club, the current indoor home for Titan tennis. He also spent seven seasons as head coach for Brother Rice High School in Birmingham. Prior to that, Asher had served as Director of Tennis at Court One Athletic Clubs in Okemos. Asher played Number 1 singles and doubles for four years at Michigan State before graduating in 1992. He was named the team’s MVP for four consecutive years and earned the All-Big Ten Award. Following his collegiate playing days, Asher spent two years on the pro circuit, playing throughout the United States, Mexico and Europe. The 42-year old Asher currently resides in Huntington Woods with his wife, Katie O’Connor, a senior attorney at Butzel Long in Detroit. The couple has seven-year-old twins, Colin and Payton.

Men’s Tennis Coaching Staff One of the most highly decorated players in Horizon League history returned to Detroit, this time as a coach as Pjotrs Necajevs was named a graduate assistant coach for the men’s and women’s tennis teams for the 2010-11 campaign. “Pjotrs was a great player for us, but it was not just about the results he gave us on the court. He really helped our young players grow and get ready for the college game during his two years and to be able to keep him around is great for the program,” said men’s head coach Grant Asher. Necajevs is involved in on-court coaching as well as providing assistance to both the men’s and women’s programs in regards to recruiting, practice schedules, travel coordination, budget and equipment purchases. He will also assist with day-to-day office administration for both teams and help the Athletic Department in the areas of marketing and promotions, group ticket sales and assist with the department’s special events.

Graduate Assistant Coach Pjotrs Necajevs

Necajevs ended his two-year Titan career as just the third player in Horizon League history to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards after going 30-4 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in the conference as a senior. He dominated conference play again with six of his seven wins in straight-set sweeps. In his Motor City career, he was 55-8 in singles, all from the top position, with a 14-0 record in conference meets. He was the team MVP twice and earned the 2009 Titan Newcomer award at the annual UDM President’s Athletic and Academic Honors Luncheon. Off the court, he was a member of Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), and earned academic honors by being named to the UDM Athletic Director’s Honor Roll twice as well as to the Horizon League’s Academic Honor Roll. As a senior, he also received the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes student-athletes who display admirable conduct both on and off the courts. Necajevs graduated from the University in May, 2010, with Bachelor’s Degree in Business and is currently enrolled in UDM’s MBA program.

2010-11 Season Outlook Detroit Titans 2010 Record - 8-12 2010 Horizon League Record - 2-5 (6th) Letterwinners lost - 3 Newcomers - 3 In the four tournaments on Detroit’s fall slate, Alex Latosinsky went 8-6 overall in singles matches while Cesar Escobar Serrano and Pablo Nunez each totaled six wins. “I thought the fall went well. It was an opportunity for us to establish who worked hard over the summer and who progressed and it gave our guys a chance to play and get mentally tough. I thought we performed well against some very stiff competition,” added Asher. At the last fall tournament in late October, the Wilson ITA Midwest Regional held at Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, the doubles pairing of Chris Cheung and Nunez topped Michigan State 8-4 before falling in the bracket to Wisconsin’s Marek Michalicka, the overall No. 2 seed in singles play, and Petr Satral, 8-2. The Titan squad that went 8-12 overall last season, 2-5 in the Horizon League, graduated seniors Patrick Troy and Pjotrs Necajevs, but Necajevs did not get far as he joins both the men’s and women’s team as a graduate assistant coach. The addition of Necajevs to the staff will help nurture a men’s team that features just two upperclassmen in juniors David Stabley and Nick Tolomei. This year’s squad features the two juniors as well as five sophomores and one freshman. “Pjotrs really helped our young players develop and get ready for the college game while he played here for two years and to be able to keep him around is great for the program,” said head men’s coach Grant Asher. New to this year’s Titan team are Larry Brown who attended Macomb Community College as a freshman, Nunez who attended East Carolina as a freshman, and true freshman Dean Butts.

2010-11 Season Outlook

2010-11 Detroit Titans “With a new program, we were fortunate enough to have two transfers in Patrick and Pete, but now those seniors have graduated so instantly we’re a young team again which generally full time programs don’t run into. On the flip side, next year we won’t lose anybody and with another year of competition, these guys should be more mature and disciplined with their approach,” commented Asher. The 2010 dual season saw the Titans enter the Horizon League Tournament as the No. 6 seed and earn a date with No. 3 seed Wright State that would see the Raiders advance on a 4-1 victory. Sophomores Serrano and Latosinsky went 11-5 and 7-10 respectively in last year’s dual season with Serrano recording a 6-1 mark in Horizon League play and earning conference second team honors. “We want eight number one players. We want everyone to feel like they are a top player for us. We certainly look to our upperclassmen Nick and David to take over at certain times but we tend to have a rule-by-committee philosophy,” said Asher.

The Titans will also be helped by midseason transfer Mike Basha from Western Michigan. Basha will not compete until fall 2011. Basha was a three-star prospect and the No. 4 ranked senior in Michigan by TennisRecruiting.net out of Port Huron Northern High School in 2008. With a 32-6 record his senior year, he was a finalist for the prestigious “Mr. Tennis” award given to a top Number One Senior Singles player in Michigan as awarded by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association in addition to being named to the Division 1 All-State first team. Basha advanced to the Division 1 state finals in No. 1 singles each of his final three years making the semifinals as a senior, the quarterfinals as a junior and the round of 16 as a sophomore. He was also named the Port Huron Times Herald Player of the Year three times. “We’ll get him for two years of competition and I think he is going to push us a step further not only going for a championship, but just the character of our program which is really important,” stated Asher.

2009-10 Season Review Overall, UDM finished the year at 8-12, 2-5 in league play, an improvement from its 5-13, 1-6 Horizon League finish in 2008-09 in the first year in the rebirth of the program. Four of those losses were 4-3 setbacks, including three in conference action as the Titans reached the first round of the Horizon League Tournament. On the court, Detroit was led by senior and Team MVP as well as Horizon League Player of the Year Pjotrs Necajevs, his second straight league player of the year honors. In his two years at Detroit, Necajevs was 55-8 and 14-0 in the Horizon League, all at No. 1 singles. He came to UDM and quickly gave the team respectability in the Midwest. That respect was seen at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in October as he and freshman Alex Latosinsky reached the quarterfinals in doubles, defeating tandems from Cleveland State, Western Michigan and the 12th-seeded team from Wisconsin. Last year, senior Patrick Troy who helped set the program’s foundation, completed his time at UDM. Troy was the recipient of the team’s Scholar-Athlete award for the second straight year as he finished his collegiate career with over 40 total victories at the Division I level. He played No. 2, 3 and 4 singles in his two years and helped form one of the best Titan doubles tandems, playing alongside sophomore Nick Tolomei. There were six underclassmen on the eight-man roster, including four freshmen. The group was led by second team All-Horizon League honoree Cesar Escobar Serrano, who became the first Titan freshman to receive all-conference accolades. Serrano, who was also the team’s Newcomer of the Year, missed the fall campaign and a few dual matches in January, but still finished the year fourth

He was also 6-1 in Horizon League action as he moved up the lineup going from No. 4 and 5 to start the year, all the way up to No. 2 in the Titans’ final two matches. He also added eight more wins for UDM in doubles. Detroit also got major contributions from two other rookies in Latosinsky and Chris Cheung. Aside from his play alongside Necajevs at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, Latosinsky compiled 12 singles wins at the No. 2 and 3 position, while Cheung gave UDM a winning presence at the back end of the rotation with 13 wins. The final rookie on the team, Chris Didio, came through as one of the hardest workers on the team. The sophomore class saw Tolomei make considerable strides in his second season, playing at No. 5 and ending the

year with 14 total victories. He had seven wins in singles and three in conference play. David Stabley had three wins in doubles on the year and provided UDM a seasoned veteran as a reserve. Tennis Facilities The outdoor home of the Detroit Titans opened on Sept. 13, 2008 when the new Titan Tennis Complex, located immediately south of Calihan Hall, was unveiled. Nearly a year after Titan Field was rennovated, Detroit welcomed a new varsity tennis complex, featuring eight hard courts and a viewing pavilion, as well as an additional athletic field. The 4,000-square-foot covered pavilion is located at the north end of the facility. The venue also serves as home for the University of Detroit Jesuit High School & Academy boy’s tennis team, as U of D Jesuit was a major financial contributor to the overall project.

Titan Tennis Complex

A formal blessing of the new tennis complex was conducted by UDM President Fr. Gerard Stockhausen, S.J. In attendance were members of the women’s and new men’s tennis teams, their families, UDM staff and many of the donors who made construction of the

new facility possible. The complex features eight varsity courts and a 4,000-square-foot viewing pavilion. TMP Architecture (Bloomfield Hills) served as the lead architect for the project, while The Monahan Company (Eastpointe) served as general contractor. The Franklin Athletic Club is considered one of the premier tennis and fitness clubs in the country. There are thirteen air-conditioned indoor courts available year-round with programs offerred for the beginning player through the advanced national level player. Franklin has received international recognition not only for its facility, but also for our world renowned teaching staff, which includes Titans men’s head coach Grant Asher who teaches professionally at the indoor club.

Horizon League Entering its 32nd season of operation in the 2010-11 academic year, the Horizon League continues to aspire toward its goal of being one of the nation’s leading athletics conferences while being recognized as a leader in the development of student-athletes as leaders and role models. The Horizon League membership features ten public and private institutions that have impressive academic reputations and a storied tradition of broadbased athletic programs. Current membership includes Butler University, Cleveland State University, the University of Detroit Mercy, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola University Chicago, Valparaiso University, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wright State University and Youngstown State University. The Horizon League’s primary focus is on adding value to the educational experience through its four platforms: athletic performance, academic achievement, community outreach, and personal responsibility and accountability. It is the League’s belief that athletics is a powerful and visible resource tool that can be used to enhance studentathletes’ collegiate experience. The Horizon League’s goals are to enhance the holistic university experience for the student-athlete, to create an affiliation of institutions with similar athletic goals, and to adhere to the principals of integrity, diversity, excellence and growth. The Horizon League sponsors competition in 19 sports - nine for men (baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, swimming and diving, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field and tennis) and ten for women (basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, tennis and volleyball). The League receives automatic bids to NCAA championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s volleyball, and for the first time in League history, wom-

en’s golf. The Horizon League is headquartered in Indianapolis, the “Amateur Sports Capital of the World,” with offices in the Pan American Plaza (201 S. Capitol Avenue), located a block from Lucas Oil Stadium and just minutes from Conseco Fieldhouse, the State Capitol Building, Victory Field (home of the Indianapolis Indians) and the NCAA national office. A PROUD HISTORY Founded on June 16, 1979, as the Midwestern City Conference with six charter members, the League changed its name to the Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and added women’s sports for the 1986-87 academic year. Charter members of the conference included current members Butler and Loyola as well as the University of Evansville, Oklahoma City University, Oral Roberts University and Xavier University. Among other current members, Detroit joined in 1980, and Cleveland State, UIC, Green Bay, Milwaukee and Wright State came aboard in 1994 (along with Northern Illinois University) in the largest nonmerger conference expansion in history. Youngstown State joined in 2001 and Valparaiso in 2007. On June 4, 2001, the Horizon League unveiled its current name and ushered in a new dynamic direction that has brought the League closer to its stated goal of being one of the nation’s top ten collegiate athletic conferences with a focus on enhancing the student-athletes’ experience by upgrading the League’s market and competitive positions.

Horizon League ATHLETIC SUCCESS In the past few years, the Horizon League has enjoyed unprecedented success on the national stage, highlighted by Butler’s 2010 NCAA men’s basketball championship game appearance where the Bulldogs fell to Duke, 61-59. The Horizon League has compiled a 10-7 record in the past five years in the NCAA tournament, ranking sixth among all collegiate conferences for winning percentage. Green Bay’s women’s basketball team became the league’s first at-large bid to the NCAA Championship in 2010 with Cleveland State receiving the automatic nod. The Phoenix knocked off No. 5 seed Virginia in the first round before falling to Elite Eight participant Iowa State, 60-56. Men’s soccer has tasted victory in seven out of the last eight years (Milwaukee 2002-05, UIC 2006-08), with UIC just one win away from the College Cup in 2007. In softball, League teams won a game in the national tournament four straight years earlier in the decade (UIC 2002, 2004; Wright State 2003; Green Bay 2005) while advancing into the second round in women’s soccer three of the last six seasons (Detroit 2004, Milwaukee 2005-06). Butler’s Victoria Mitchell became the League’s first NCAA individual champion when she won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

In addition, several League men’s basketball coaches coached barefoot to support Samaritan’s Feet, and the League’s schools and fans donate to Komen for the Cure for breast cancer awareness during its annual women’s basketball championship. On campus, student-athletes have raised money and awareness for such Horizon League causes as breast cancer, diabetes Commissioner and hurricane relief, Jon LeCrone, 19th Year while hosting blood drives, neighborhood clean-ups, Big Brother/Big Sister programs and more.

SPORTSMANSHIP One of the Horizon League’s points of emphasis is fostering collegial environments for competition among student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans in a pro-active approach. Among the vehicles is the Ethical Conduct Pledge, which is signed each season by student-athletes, coaches, officials, and campus and League administrators. Its ACADEMIC SUCCESS purpose is to make all the involved groups Horizon League student-athletes also excel in aware of the Horizon League expectations of the classroom as more than 500 have been behavior during conference events. named to the Academic Honor Roll each of the past seven semesters for carrying a DEMOGRAPHICS grade-point average of 3.2 or better, includHorizon League institutions boast a coming more than 600 for the last four semesbined enrollment of more than 130,000 ters. Academics/Compliance When talking about students who compete in a varsity sport, the term typically used is “student-athlete.” The word “student” comes first, and that’s the way the University of Detroit Mercy approaches all of its athletic team members. Although performance in competition is important, they are students first, and athletes second, with their performance in the classroom plenty important in Titan Territory. UDM’s Center for Student-Athlete Development, one of the first of its kind, offers programs for academic classes, drug education, student enhancement and works to improve communication skills. All 19 varsity teams are encouraged to take full advantage of the programs offered at the center. The center also heads up the NCAA Life Skills Program, which focuses on the student in student-athlete and how to deal with issues that all studentathletes today must face. Through seminars, guest speakers and NCAA videos, studentathletes are made aware of issues such as gambling and drug and alcohol abuse, and how to deal with these concerns. The center is made possible, in part, by a grant from the NCAA. In conjunction with the staff of the University Learning Center, members of the center’s staff teach UAS 107, “Athletes in Transition,” each year. All freshman and transfer student-athletes must take this course during their studies at UDM. The course deals with how student-athletes can make the transition from high school to college. This important class teaches studentathletes to deal with time and stress management, study skills and the importance of good

nutritional habits. Another example of Detroit’s commitment to its student-athletes’ academ- Steve Corder Amy Paling ic excellence Asst. AD for Asst. In addition, student-athletes are helped with their tutorial needs through the use of the student-run Learning Center, where professors and students donate their time as tutors. The student-athletes’ academic progress is closely monitored and study table is set up to assist the Titans with any and all academic areas, including providing tutors and a writing lab. The center is open daily and also has evening hours to work around a student-athlete’s busy schedule. All freshmen must take part in the study table, as well as other student-athletes who have not yet achieved a 2.75 GPA. The University of Detroit Mercy is committed to the principles of institutional control in operating our athletic department. We are responsible for adhering to the rules, regulations and spirit of the NCAA, Horizon League and the University. The University of Detroit Mercy Compliance Office directs this effort and acts a primary resource concerning NCAA rules, regulations and compliance issues. We ensure that our institution complies with all NCAA standards and we are responsible for monitoring all athletic programs to assure compliance.

Titan Hall Of Fame UDM established its Sports Hall of Fame in 1977 in order to honor those studentathletes, coaches and administrators who have helped develop the successful tradition of Titan Athletics. The Hall of Fame now has 112 members, following the 10 latest additions made on Homecoming Weekend on Jan. 26, 2010. The 2002 induction dinner was truly one to remember. The inductees included two of the Titans’ former basketball All-Americans, L-R: Adam Walicki, Joe Kopicki, Kim Jess, Pat Adams, Ken Dubois, Mike Pesci, Maria Pandele (Not Pictured: Jermaine Jackson, Rashad Phillips, Cassandra Pack) Terry Tyler and John The 2010 Titan Hall of Fame Class was inducted at halftime of the men’s basketball Long – or Thunder game against Wright State on Jan. 26. and Lightning, as they were affectionately known during their playing days – as well as the 1960 Titan football team as a unit. Additionally, the beautiful new Hall of Fame display in the Calihan Hall lobby was unveiled that night for a crowd which would fill the arena’s main floor during the induction dinner. Long and Tyler were part of one of the winningest eras of Titan basketball, having helped their team to an 86-25 record over their four years combined. They helped the Titans to an NCAA Tournament berth in 1977, and an NIT appearance one year later. Long was the only player ever to lead the Titans in scoring for four straight varsity seasons, and he’s still the second-leading point producer in school history. Tyler, meanwhile, is the all-time Detroit leader for blocked shots in a game, a season and a career. He is also second in career field goal percentage and sixth in scoring. The pair’s old coach, none other than Dick Vitale, was the keynote speaker at his former players’ induction dinner. The present-day ESPN/ABC telecaster kept the audience captivated for more than an hour with his memories of coaching the Titans. The 1960 football squad became the first team ever to be inducted into the Hall of Fame en masse. That team finished the season 7-2 – the winningest U-D record of the postWorld War II era. Two of those victories, over Cincinnati and Xavier, came by shutout. Future pro stars Larry Vargo, Bruce Maher, Steve Stonebreaker and Jerry Gross were all part of the 1960 Titan roster. The most recent induction class included four former basketball players – Joe Kopicki, Jermaine Jackson, Rashad Phillips and, from the women’s team, Cassandra Pack – as well as former stars from baseball (Pat Adams and Mike Pesci), cross country/track and field (Ken Dubois and Kim Jess), golf (Adam Walicki) and tennis (Maria Pandele).

Athletic Director Keri Gaither was appointed as the University of Detroit Mercy’s director of athletics in May of 2007. Soon after taking the helm of the department, Gaither announced the expansion of the Detroit Titans Division I sports program from 16 to 19 teams with the addition of men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse and men’s tennis. In her first year, Gaither also expanded the athletic staff by adding eight fulltime positions to the department and directed the building and completion of a new $1.6 million allpurpose synthetic turf field and track. Gaither also led a successful fundraising campaign for the renovation of the men’s basketball office suite and oversaw the building of a new tennis complex that includes eight new courts and a tennis pavilion in addition to a new grass practice field for soccer and lacrosse. Recently Gaither was recognized for her strong leadership as UDM’s Director of Athletics when she was appointed to the University’s senior leadership team as a member of the Associate Vice President’s group in June of 2007. Gaither also chaired the Detroit Local Organizing Committee for the 2009 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four, which was played at Ford Field in Detroit, as the University of Detroit Mercy served as the host institution. As the committee’s Chair, Gaither provided strong leadership for the DLOC and maintained ultimate responsibility for the local operations of the Final Four event. Gaither held the same position, in addition to being designated Tournament Director, for the 2008 NCAA Men’s Basketball Midwest Regional which broke all previous NCAA Regional attendance records with over 57,000 people each day at Ford Field. For the three years preceding her appointment as A.D., Gaither served as second in command for the Detroit Titans athletic department and also supervised nine Titan women’s varsity sports as the senior associate athletic director. During her tenure in that position, Gaither played an instrumental role in the planning and implementation of women’s golf in 2004 when it became UDM’s 16th varsity team. Prior to her selection as A.D., Gaither had served in several key administrative roles for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics including stints as senior woman administrator and director of business operations. As a current member of the Horizon League’s Executive Council, Gaither is actively involved with League operations. She has served on both the finance and television committees. She is also the council’s liaison to the track and cross country coaches and has served as the past liaison to the sports information directors. While a member of the 2006 UDM Self-Study Steer-

42

ing Committee for NCAA Athletic Certification, Gaither also served on the Equity and Student-Athletic Welfare Sub-Committee and was designated the campus liaison during the certification process. Shortly after the University received its full certification in April of 2007, Gaither was asked by the NCAA to serve as a PeerReview Team Member. Past University appointments include chairing UDM’s prioritization sub-committee and serving on various search committees. She is a past Board Member for the University of Detroit Mercy’s Women’s Studies Program and served on the Women’s Studies Program Development Sub-committee. Gaither also participated as a member of the Tourism Action Group (TAG) Hospitality Committee, a group organized by the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau dedicated to training the hospitality industry for Detroit-area events such as the 2005 MLB All-Star Game and Super Bowl XL, as well as future major events. In 2006, Gaither completed the NCAA’s inaugural Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Females, a leadership development program sponsored by the NCAA Office for Diversity and Inclusion and the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. The Leadership Institute, designed to address the critical shortage of senior-level minority administrators at NCAA member institutions and conference offices, prepares diverse leaders through a 12-month leadership training and skills development experience. Gaither served as a past steering committee member of the Women’s Leadership Symposium for Intercollegiate Athletics and recently assisted in coordinating its national leadership conference. Gaither is also a member of National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators, National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association. She currently serves on the NCAA’s the Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee as well as the Executive Committee of the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association. In March of 2008, Gaither was presented with the Phenomenal Women’s Ashley Gray Legacy Award by the University of Detroit Mercy’s Student Programming Board. This award was presented for her outstanding contribution toward the growth and development of students as the director of athletics at UDM. Graduating magna cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy, Gaither earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. During her undergraduate studies, she was a two-time recipient of the College of Liberal of Arts’ Economics Student of the Year Award. Gaither and her husband, Brad Trombley, reside in Pleasant Ridge with their two children, Elliott (19), a junior in UDM’s pre-dentistry program, and Kennedy (12).
