This course touches on why, when and where to bird. Topics include equipment, reference materials and internet support, ID techniques, listing and bird songs. Practical experience takes place with 8 a.m. bird walks on the OLLI grounds before class, and field trips. Delaware is a prime birding site—get to know it!

The course will examine the well-established legal standard “beyond a reasonable doubt” and its application throughout the American judicial system: in law enforcement and criminal prosecution, in legal defense, and to the layperson in a jury. The course will also address the burden-of-proof differences between criminal and civil cases. The last session will include a presentation by class volunteers (prosecutor and defense counsel) to the jury (class) of an actual major case. This hybrid-format course meets as two distinct but concurrent sections, one inperson, one online. In-person participants may join in the online class when their schedule requires.

This course will teach the function and structure of the brain by exploring 10 functions of the brain: fear, memory, sleep, language, sadness, movement, vision, pleasure, pain and attention. Normal function and common diseases will covered. The course will conclude with a lecture on brain aging. Attendees should expect to learn a how their brains work by exploring what their brains do. Each lecture is based on a chapter in the recommended text. No prior knowledge of neuroscience is necessary.
