UGA IFC Fraternity Recruitment 2011 What is Fraternity Recruitment? Recruitment, also known as “Rush,” is an organized process through which you can familiarize yourself with fraternity life at UGA and potentially join a fraternity. Participants have the opportunity to meet the brothers of the fraternities represented at the University and to learn more about what each fraternity has to offer.
Why Join a Fraternity? ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE Each student at the University of Georgia has the primary goal of obtaining a degree and an education; therefore, the fraternity system takes seriously its role in helping its members excel academically. • IFC annually awards approximately $5,000 in scholarships and recognizes the achievements of individual members and chapters who excel academically. • Chapters encourage scholastic achievement by maintaining incentive programs for brothers who excel in the classroom, pairing together study partners, and developing tutoring programs that fit the needs of each member. • The average IFC member’s GPA has been higher than that of the average University man’s GPA for the past twenty years. • 74% of the men of IFC have a 3.0 or higher. LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES • Fraternity chapters are largely self-governed and call on the talents and dedication of their members to coordinate the various aspects of fraternity life. • Fraternity men participate in almost every aspect of campus life, and they can be found in positions within numerous campus, professional, academic, and service organizations. • Both nationally and locally, fraternities are dedicated to teaching their members an array of positive leadership skills through a wide variety of leadership development experiences. • Fraternity men receive many personal development opportunitiesincluding a rich network of alumni mentors that prepare them for success.
• Philanthropy and community service are major components of fraternity life. Each year individual chapters raise thousands of dollars and compile hundreds of hours of community service. • The Greek community is a major contributor to ugaMiracle which benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and raised over $250,000 last year. • Intramural athletic competition is also a very exciting aspect of fraternity life, and each year fraternity men compete with and against each other in a variety of intramural sports. • Fraternities also enjoy a wide range of social opportunities. Socials, date nights, formals, tailgates, parents’ weekends and brotherhood events are all activities that encourage the personal development of members.

The IFC is a self-governing body that represents the University of Georgia’s fraternities. The Council is composed of leaders from each of its member fraternities who work together to help the entire system better achieve its common goals of membership development and service to the campus and the Athens community.
“Being able to visit each fraternity’s house was a great way to learn about UGA’s greek life, develop friendships with men from all chapters, and find the fraternity that was the best place for me.”
