Apple Bytes MEDIA CENTER TECHNOLOGY UPDATES

flip Video Cameras A great resource for students! Give the students flips and a few ground rules and you will find they will be itching to do that history report they have been dreading all year.

Struggling with integrating that new whiteboard? Join us once a month to learn new tricks, share ideas and learn from each other about what has worked… and what hasn’t. We will meet the first Thursday of the month from 3:15pm4:00pm with a group session for each grade level. You will walk away with one themed lesson to use during the upcoming month. Let us know which themes you would like highlighted each month.

Tech Tip: Take it slowly… There are lots of wonderful tech resources out there and tons of ways to integrate them into the classroom, but there is no need to rush this integration. Pick one resource you think you would feel comfortable using and could easily integrate into YOUR way of teaching and learn how to use it. Once you have succeeded with one move to another resource. Before you know it you will be the tech pro and sharing your expertise. * Flip Camera photo downloaded from: serverbeach.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/flipm

The benefits…they learn how to collaborate with their classmates and you look forward to grading the reports. flips are so simple to use even our Kindergarteners can have fun making their own videos. With the push of a single button the recording is started and stopped. And the video transfer requires no cables, just a flip of the USB located on the side of the camera. Come by the media center for a quick tutorial and to checkout a class set today!

Blogging? What’s that? And why do it? Establishing a blog for your class has numerous benefits, among which are sharing resources and materials, promoting discussions, creating newsletters and class productions and integrating multimedia.

Sites like Edublogs.org allow teachers to set up accounts for their students. These accounts provide a safe educational environment for discussion since the teacher can determine just how much of the forum will be publicly shared.

Blogs are extremely simple to establish and update, making them the simplest of the open resources to integrate into the classroom.

Edublogs also allows teachers to set static pages (pages with content that remains the same), providing a storage for resources the student will be able to access from home.

By posting an article and having students post comments in response to their reading, you propel your classroom discussions into a livelier debate. This forum can be liberating for those students who would normally not actively participate in class discussions.

A third feature offered at Edublogs is the ability for students to edit the pages on the classroom blog. This feature makes collaborative projects like newsletters and other projects possible.

ELMO Document Cameras provide a means to project students’ work without any additional steps. No scanning, converting to transparencies, etc. They are small in size, requiring little storage space and easy to use. But do the job of overhead projectors, opaque projectors and scanners/cameras.
