DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A HAWK?
A COLLEGE EDUCATION IS ONE OF THE
MOST IMPORTANT INVESTMENTS
UHCL is nestled in a 524-acre nature and wildlife preserve. From a stunning collection of wildlife, we selected our official mascot – the hawk.
Hawks can be spotted throughout our wooded campus. They perfectly capture the freedom of learning found at UHCL. In addition, the hawk also reflects the qualities we seek in our students – tenacity, excellence, dynamic leadership and a soaring spirit of discovery. If you have what it takes to be a UHCL Hawk, we’d love to spot you on campus, too.
THE PROVEN PROFESSIONALS, LEADING THINKERS AND ACCOMPLISHED EDUCATORS THAT MAKE UP OUR FACULTY ALL FALL INTO ONE CATEGORY –
YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL EVER MAKE.
NURTURING EXPERTS.
While you will be expected to contribute as much as you can to help meet your college expenses, financial aid can help you make up the difference. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that UHCL is such a great value.
NOW A 4-YEAR UNIVERSITY
GREAT VALUE MEETS HIGH QUALITY
For 40 years, UHCL focused on educating juniors, seniors and graduate students. We are excited to now welcome freshmen and sophomores to our campus. We hope you’re the next new addition to our 4-year university.
UHCL strives to keep the cost of your education well within reach. In fact, our tuition and fees consistently rank among the lowest for Texas public universities. At right are the estimated costs of attendance as of 2014-15 (based on 12 hours per semester):
YOUR SUCCESS IS OUR SUCCESS
We want our students to become our alumni. That’s why UHCL has valuable resources and friendly staff members dedicated to supporting you – as a freshman and throughout your college career at UHCL.
FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR
This semester-long course is customized for first-year students and will aid in developing relationships with faculty and fellow students, time management and study skills and generally preparing you for success.
Students living on or off campus Tuition/Fees $5,958 Books/Supplies $1,050 Room/Board $9,682 Students living at home with parents Tuition/Fees $5,958 Books/Supplies $1,050 Room/Board $4,840 Please visit www.uhcl.edu/finaid for detailed information on UHCL cost of attendance.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT
When you have questions about university life (trust us, you will), turn to your UHCL adviser. You will have a designated adviser to counsel you at least three times per semester. These sessions will be your outlet for discussing goals, career options or whatever may concern you. UHCL created the Student Success Center, Math Center and Writing Center specifically to support students through: • Peer tutoring or mentoring • Supplemental instruction • Academic skill development
FINANCIAL AID
Approximately 2 in 3 UHCL students receive financial aid from scholarships, grants, student loans, college work study or veteran’s benefits. The Office of Student Financial Aid uses your admissions application and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to award attractive financial aid packages.
We recommend that you file the FAFSA no later than March 1 of your senior year in high school to ensure it is received by our priority deadline of March 15. When you apply early for both admissions and financial aid, you are more likely to receive a larger award. You can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov.
