AN ENTREPRENEURIAL APPROACH TO PREPARING ARTS LEADERS: CREATIVE PROFESSIONALS WHO LAUNCH, ADMINISTER AND MAINTAIN ARTS ORGANIZATIONS OF ALL SIZES. Advanced Studies Across Disciplines The Master of Arts in Arts Leadership Program provides advanced study in the management and promotion of arts organizations across artistic disciplines. Students enrolled full-time may complete the degree requirements within two years. Flexible Schedule for Working Professionals The arts leadership master’s degree program is designed to accommodate students who are working professionals. Those who wish to continue full-time or part-time employment may complete this program within five years. All core courses are offered during evening hours.

Real-world Experience The Master of Arts in Arts Leadership Program develops and cultivates the next generation of influential leaders in the fields of arts and entertainment. All students will be required to complete a practicum within an established arts organization in the greater Houston area. They will have access — through lectures, workshops and panels both in class, and through the UH Center for Arts Leadership — to interact with local and national leaders of distinction in the fields of arts, entertainment and culture.

ADVANCED STUDY IN THE MANAGEMENT AND PROMOTION OF ARTS ORGANIZATIONS IN THE NATION’S FOURTH-LARGEST CITY. On-campus Requirements The arts leadership master’s degree program requires 36 credit hours of coursework and practicum. It consists of 15 hours of required specialty courses in the areas of arts, public administration and public sector business as well as three hours of prescribed electives. It also includes 12 hours of free electives selected from courses in the UH School of Art, Moores School of Music, UH School of Theatre and Dance, The Valenti School of Communications, The Bauer School of Business, the School of Public Administration and the M.A. program in Arts Leadership.

Practicum Program The final requirement of the The Master of Arts in Arts Leadership Program is a 6 credit hour practicum in an arts organization, providing vital real-world experience to students. Students will gain practical, hands-on, leadership experience in some of Houston’s most established and cutting-edge arts institutions. Partner organizations contributing expertise to the program to date include: Aerosol Warfare, Ars Lyrica, Art League Houston, Community Artist Collective, DanceSource Houston, Fresh Arts, Houston Arts Alliance, Houston Symphony, Indo-American Association, Main Street Theater, Project Row Houses and Multicultural Educational Counseling Through the Arts (MECA).

Key Facts About Houston’s Creative Job Market • In 2011, 146,625 jobs made up the creative economy in Houston. • Houston’s creative economy employs more people than the Texas Medical Center. • Houston’s creative economy grew by 8% between 2001 and 2011.

• Houston is projected to have more creative-sector jobs in 2016 than they did in 2001. • Houston is number one in median earnings per creative worker. This means that while Houston has fewer creative workers, they are better paid than in any of the other cities included in the study. The figure becomes more impressive in light of Houston’s low cost of living. • The economic impact of Houston’s creative goods and services was $9.1 billion in 2011.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP IN YOUR CAREER AS AN ARTS LEADER: APPLY FOR THE M.A. IN ARTS LEADERSHIP PROGRAM Admission Requirements The Master of Arts in Arts Leadership Program follows the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences requirements for admission.

• Two official transcripts from each college or university attended since high school mailed directly to the program from theschool.

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with overall 3.0 average on the last 60 hours credit. • Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores • Three letters of recommendation from those who are familiar with your work and educational
