EdVenture has a New Name with New Energy With the intent to inspire passion driven growth, we have updated the title of our EdVenture course catalog to Ho‘āla, which means to “renew, restore, revive.” The name and look of our course catalog reflects a dynamic new energy in our division and our efforts to renew and revive your educational and training interests. In December 2018, UHMC reorganized and consolidated the Office of Continuing Education and Training and several other programs into a brand new division: Extended Learning and Workforce Development. In keeping with our college’s mission of “inspiring students to develop knowledge and skills in pursuit of academic, career, and personal goals in a supportive, educational environment...” our catalog presents new and ongoing programs designed to meet Maui Nui’s community and workforce needs - a major strategic objective for our campus. We look forward to seeing you in our classes!

KAULUWEHI a new ethnobotanical garden on campus The Sustainable Living Institute of Maui has reenvisioned the community garden with campus input and a new design by UHMC student Dustin Palos, showcasing a unique collection of endemic and indigenous plants has opened at UH Maui College next to the Kupa‘a Building. “The future of our islands depends on preserving our native species and protection of our watershed,” Dustin said. “The garden features different zones to showcase plants for ethnobotanical uses, including kapa and lei making, and native species that we need to raise awareness about through education, such as protecting ‘ōhi‘a lehua from the spread of rapid ‘ōhi‘a death.” Kauluwehi, meaning a place for beautiful plants to thrive, is open for students and the community to visit Monday-Saturday, from dawn to dusk, for self-guided tours and community workshops. • $ $ Tuition Assistance: page 11
