MHA Orientation
Amanda is originally from Minnesota where she still has family. She received her bachelorette degree in international studies from the University of Wisconsin Madison before moving to Chicago to work in an immigration law firm. She then received her master’s degree in counseling and college student development from DePaul University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois.

Amanda has been a part of UIC staff since 2016, when she began supporting the School of Art and Art History as an undergraduate academic advisor. She has enjoyed how her roles help students reach goals.
Whether I’m advising on academic questions, or addressing other issues such as mental health concerns, I enjoy being a resource that students can rely on to help them towards graduation. It is very rewarding to see a student who I met at orientation walk across the stage for their graduation. She is also involved with the Office for Advising Development (OAD) Steering committee and volunteers with the Office of the Dean of Students as a student conduct hearing member.

Connect with Us Her biggest advice to current students is to not be afraid to ask for help.
No one should expect to get through graduate school without some help! There are many resources on campus that can help with common student concerns, whether academic, mental health, or financial concerns. Asking for help is a sign of maturity and selfawareness, not a sign of weakness. Amanda acts as students’ first point of contact and can assist in navigating the various support offices available. Amanda has two cats, Coco and Nacho. Her dream travel destination is the Greek Islands or Colombia. Her favorite type of food is Italian – which has made the move to the SPH extra exciting since we are right next to Pompeii. When she isn’t supporting students in their academic pursuits, she enjoys seeing live music, doing yoga, and being outdoors.
