INTERDEPARTMENTAL CONCENTRATIONS Global Health
The Global Health Concentration (GHC) is interdisciplinary, representing students from all School of Public Health divisions. In addition to individual division and school-wide requirements, students must fulfill GHC requirements, detailed below. Among other activities, students in the GHC will discuss key historical events that have shaped public health on an international scale; they will apply theory to program development in an international context; and students will examine and apply health prevention and intervention models effective in diverse global settings.
Women's Health
Students who are interested in a career that includes researching and/or caring for women throughout the lifecycle, and who wish to learn about women's health from alternative perspectives, may be interested in this interdisciplinary concentration, sponsored by the UIC National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and UIC Center for Research on Women and Gender. Comprising students from UIC's College of Nursing, School of Public Health and Department of Sociology, the 12-credit concentration is open to MS and PhD students.
Gender and Women's Studies
Violence Studies
Gender and Women’s Studies Program is a vibrant interdisciplinary department made up of scholars who study a wide range of topics critical to an expansive understanding of how and why gender and sexuality matter in the world.
The vision underlying the Interdepartmental Graduate Concentration in Violence Studies as conceived by the faculty from various academic units is that it will provide an educational nexus for research, graduate training, and locally and globally engaged scholarship at UIC. Violence is a major public health and social problem. A graduate concentration in violence studies is needed at UIC to provide students with a set of courses that introduce them to various forms of violence and their study from a variety of disciplinary perspectives.
Survey Research Methodology The Interdepartmental Graduate Concentration in Survey Research Methodology provides UIC graduate students state-of-the-art knowledge and skills in scientifically grounded survey research methodology.
