The UIC Public Health Informatics MPH program was designed to develop a new generation of public health informatics leaders. Our graduates are prepared for a wide range of roles at mid-to-high management levels in the health care information setting. Leading employers world-wide are listed below.
Public health organizations are faced with the challenge of not only collecting and analyzing data related to the health of populations but also managing this data in a way that maximizes the efficiency and efficacy of current and emerging public health interventions. Accordingly, there is a growing need for public health professionals who possess the knowledge required to develop, implement and evaluate public health information systems.

School-Wide Core Requirements (18 SH) IPHS 401. Determinants of Population Health. 4 hours. Introduces students to where one is born, lives, learns, plays, works and ages influences overall health and health outcomes. IPHS 404. Analytic and Research Methods in Population Health Part I. 3 hours. Introduces students to the analytic and research methods used to carry out the core functions of evidence-based public health. IPHS 405. Analytic and Research Methods in Population Health Part II. 3 hours. Introduces students to the analytic and research methods used to carry out the core functions of evidence-based public health. IPHS 403. Public Health Systems, Management and Community Health Methods. 4 hours. Introduces problem and case-based pedagogy in public health management and practice, including community health assessment and improvement planning; policy development and advocacy; and organizational planning and management. IPHS 420. Interprofessional Education. 0 hours. This experience focuses on the principles in working with professions outside the discipline of public health. students to acquire experience and develop practical skills in the application of public health competencies and concepts. IPHS 650. Field Experience in Public Health. 3 hours. Students acquire experience and develop practical skills in the application of public health competencies and concepts. IPHS 698. MPH Integrative Learning Experience. 1 hours.
