PROJECTS Healthy CPS Network Initiative Our Core Research Project is a collaboration between the P3RC and Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and is led by Jamie Chriqui and Elizabeth Jarpe-Ratner at UIC and Jamie Tully, Tarrah DeClemente, and Syretta Shealey at CPS. The Healthy CPS Network Initiative assesses the feasibility and impact of using a Healthy CPS Network Specialist to implement aspects of the CDC’s Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model in a regional network of schools and students. COVID-19 Response In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, P3RC faculty and staff have been heavily involved in providing critical response support throughout Illinois. In addition to UIC SPH’s coordination of the UIC contact tracing initiative, the P3RC’s Welter and Steve Seweryn worked with the Illinois Department of Public health to strategically strengthen and expand its COVID-19 incident command system. With funding from the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, the UIC SPH and the P3RC will also colead contact tracing services for the City of Chicago alongside Malcolm X College, NORC at the University of Chicago, and the Sinai Urban Health Institute [information on Cook County grant].

Trainings focus on creating evidence-based policy, programs, systems, and environmental changes (PPSE) as well as timely resources for health practitoners, including contact tracing modules, trainings on health equity, and more. P3RC Research Brief Receives International Coverage A new P3RC research brief shows that ZIP code-level data on COVID-19 deaths can obscure the health inequities in Chicagoland long-term care facilities. Following the publication of the research brief, co-author Paul Simbanis was featured in an interview with the South Koreabased news program, Global Insight.

P3RC Affiliate Chelsea Singleton receives K01 award from NIH Singleton received a K01 award from the National Institutes of Health for her work studying the relationship between violence and nutrition. Before securing a faculty position at University of Illinois Department of Kinesiology and Community Health, Singleton provided critical leadership on the P3RC's work around nutrition. Learn more.

P3RC Research Assistant Wins Award at Virtual Poster Competition Mary Cleary, P3RC Healthy CPS Network Initiative research assistant, won best poster in the master’s scholarly public health practice category at SPH Research and Practice Scholarship Day. See her poster here.

Prendergast Wins Prestigious Fellowship Heather Prendergast was named a University of Illinois President’s Executive Leadership Program Fellow.
