Invite Alumni to speak with your students about their career, life after college, and any advice they may have!

Why reach out?

A fellow vandal already has a rapport with the students because they have walked in the shoes of the students in the same or a similar major. Alumni can provide recent industry advice from their experience that students will find directly applicable to their next few years. This setting may make students more comfortable with asking questions and starting career-oriented conversations.

1. Where to start... University of Idaho LinkedIn Page!

Look up 'University of Idaho' on LinkedIn and navigate to our home page. From here you can click on the 'Alumni' tab:

If you want someone in-person, narrow down your location search to the surrounding area with cities/states of your choice. If you’re looking for someone to join virtually there is no need to filter for location.

To narrow down to what they studied or what their job title is click ‘Next’.

Once you have entered in all your desired filters, scroll down to view who matches your search in the 'People you may know' section!

3. Time to Connect!

Explore profiles! You may even see a previous student of yours that you would like to invite back. See what profession the alum is working in and what they graduated with to ensure your filters applied. When you find an alum that you are excited about, reach out with a friendly message asking them if they would be interested in joining your class in person or via zoom to share insight with your students. To have this time be as successful as possible, come up with a set of questions you would like the alum to touch on or a direction to go in during the class period. Mention to the alum how much time you might want at the end for questions and open conversation between students and the alum!
