The ECHO Idaho Newsletter
This summer, ECHO Idaho has been making waves. We wrapped up our Perinatal Substance Use Disorder series in July. Before that, in June, we hosted a summer send-off of our COVID-19 series in June with special guest Dr. Christine Hahn. As we gear up for fall, we’re pleased to announce that this series will be returning to our schedule, beginning August 24. Register now if you haven’t already and keep a lookout for the revamped series webpage, up later this week. Looking forward, we’re thrilled to announce a brand new series anticipated to launch in January 2022, Pediatric Autism! Details are in the works, but registering for the series today means you’ll receive more information about it later. Why wait?! The next iteration of our free virtual X-Waiver Training takes place Monday, September 20. Details on how you can claim $3,000 for your FQHC or RHC by earning an x-waiver are down below. What else is new? Our CE/CME-eligible podcast, Something for the Pain, has six episodes out and four more coming. Please subscribe with your preferred app by visiting
our website and clicking the subscribe button. Or you can find it wherever you get your podcasts. Rate the show and recommend to anyone in your circle working with patients with opioid use disorder. Finally, a big congratulations to ECHO staff that have earned promotions: Katy Palmer is now Assistant Director and Karley Kline has stepped into the role of Program Manager. We’ve also brought on the very talented Lynsey Winters Juel as a second Program Manager. Learn more about her in this newsletter. Best,
Lachelle Smith Director, ECHO Idaho

Join Us September 20, 2021 This spring, the US Department of Health and Human Services issued new practice guidelines for the x-waiver application process, removing the training requirement in most cases. However, if you’re looking for firmer footing on prescribing buprenorphine for opioid use disorder or want to increase your patient limit, we make it easy to get the info you need at no cost. Sign up for our virtual X-Waiver Training on Monday, September 20. Read FAQs and pre-register here.
Earn $3,000 to Save Lives with HRSA’s Data 200 Waiver Training Program The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) recently launched a program to incentivize qualified providers to get their x-waiver. Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) can now apply for funding to receive $3,000 for each provider that is x-waivered. No deadline to apply, but funds are limited and will be paid on a first-come, firstserved basis. Contact Data2000WaiverPayments@hrsa. gov for additional questions about this program and RSVP for ECHO Idaho’s training this fall.
In partnership with the Valley County Opioid Response Project (VCORP), ECHO Idaho has expanded the reach of our CE/CME-eligible substance use disorder education through a whole new medium: the podcast.
Something for the Pain is made for Idaho’s healthcare professionals working to prevent, treat and facilitate recovery from opioid and substance use disorders in communities across the state. Recent episodes cover topics like harm reduction, motivational interviewing and ASAM’s Levels of Care. Available here or on your favorite podcast app.
State’s Addiction Medicine Fellows Join ECHO Idaho Idaho’s inaugural class of Addiction Medicine Fellows - Drs. Jeremy Blanchard, Nari Hsiu and Derek Hayton - are taking an active role in ECHO Idaho’s Opioids, Pain and SUDs series. This one-year fellowship offered through FMRI and the Boise VA allows family medicine and psychiatry physicians to receive broad experience in diagnosing and treating substance use disorders in inpatient and out-patient settings. The three fellows bring tremendous value to ECHO both as leaders and learners to advance SUD care across the state. Look for them next time you join the series.
New Staff... Welcome Lynsey Winters Juel, ECHO Idaho’s new Program Manager!
