Adventure is part of LeeAnn Hold’s DNA. As a United States Navy electronics technician, she patrolled the Indian Ocean for pirates. Three years later, she, her fiancé and their pug jumped in their car and drove from Norfolk, VA., to the University of Idaho. Initially attracted by U of I’s top-tier academics in the heart of one of America’s best outdoor recreation destinations, LeeAnn liked how the U of I veterans center team jumped in to help her transition to civilian life, navigate the application process, and secure scholarships and GI Bill financing. Today, LeeAnn is a Beckman Scholar exploring how mechanical and biochemical factors control stem cell behavior. Her research will allow future generations to engineer tendon tissue formation. LeeAnn is BREAKING THROUGH to a future benefiting injured combat veterans and all of humanity. And you will too.

As a University of Idaho student, I have all these opportunities to stay motivated and collaborate with faculty, but I am still able to work independently and become a successful researcher.
