Housing & Residence Life Fall Check-In Recap & Changing Students Lives This year’s Fall Check-In event was a huge success. We loved seeing so many students and families on campus, moving into the residences halls. Over 100 campus partners volunteered to help students move into their new homes. It’s incredible to see the Vandal Family come together for such a special day. Big thanks to the entire Housing & Residence Life Staff for all the hard work put in. We were able to welcome students and families with a fun filled day and a lasting first impression. Fall Check-In is a great showing of how our department works to change students’ lives.

David Moore, Housing’s Carpenter & Maintenance Craft Person, is a perfect example of this. David helps with this event every year. He brings a handcart from home and spends his entire work day helping students get settled. When asked about his experience David commented, “Not only the students but their parents are really grateful that people are helping.” David shared that, “Families were really impressed with how well (Fall Check-In) was organized.” He explained that it is nice meeting so many different people who are all excited, some nervous, and it’s nice to see how much they appreciate his help. “Almost every year one of the parents tries to tip me, but I assure them that I’m just doing my job.” Thanks David and the whole department for a successful Fall Check-In.

Leadershop 2015 Almost 100 student leaders within Housing & Residence Life attended Leadershop, a full day workshop on September 12. The workshop was planned and put on by the RHA executive board with the help of their Advisor, Jill Powell, and other campus leaders. Students learned about financial training, parliamentary procedure, marketing and event planning, being an active leader on campus, and having fun at meetings.

Summer Conference Recap May through August Housing & Residence Life hosted various groups on campus. We worked to create an environment where each group felt welcomed and gained a sense of Vandal Pride! Over the course of the summer we had 42 total groups, 30 of which were youth, and 3075 total guest stay with us. Overall it was a successful Summer Conference Season filled with lots of fun and positive feedback.

Envision Idaho It's hard to believe Envision Idaho is right around the corner. Envision Idaho is a large campus visit day for high school seniors to explore campus, learn about student life, and tour their living options. This year’s Envision Idaho events will take place on Friday, October 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd. Housing & Residence life will be tabling, presenting, engaging with students and families, and offering tours of the residence halls. Remember to be extra helpful during these events, as we want to show these families how great Housing and the University of Idaho truly are.
