Dover Harbour Board seeks further modernising powers Dover Harbour Board have today advertised a Harbour Revision Order (HRO) seeking further modernising powers. It will forever embed the power for the Board to appoint two community directors, which in turn will strengthen the links between the Port and its community as envisaged in the Ministerial statement made in April 2014. These directors will bring special knowledge or experience of the position of the Port within the local community and local economy. The HRO also puts the Port’s consultative mechanisms on a statutory basis and, in line with the Companies Act 2006, provides for meetings to take place by electronic means. The Port is a hugely important part of the local economy, ranking first as the largest ferry port in the EU. The powers sought are considered necessary to enable Dover Harbour Board to work with the community at the beginning of what will be a significant period of regeneration for the Port and its town. Currently the Board consists of a chairman and 4 other members appointed by the Secretary of State, the chief executive officer and a further executive officer with the Board

having discretion to appoint a further member. The HRO would retain the power of the Secretary of State to appoint the chairman with the other members of the Board (“directors”) being appointed by the Board. On 9 April 2014 the Shipping and Ports Minister, Stephen Hammond MP said: “I believe Dover needs an enduring and meaningful consultative relationship with its port. This can be achieved by a legal commitment to consult interested parties, as has been done successfully at other major trust ports. The port and community forum and port user group are in their early days but these groups, among others which have been seen to work well at major trust ports, could be vehicles for delivering this legal commitment. But we need to do more to deliver a significant and enduring relationship between town and port. So as well as the legal commitment I have agreed with the board that an important form of permanent community involvement is seats in the boardroom. Therefore additional, community non-executive directors should be appointed to the board, as has been done at other successful trust ports. The future board will consist of the chairman, existing nonexecutive specialist directors, executive directors, and now these community non-executive directors.”

Trimline Complete Work to Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ Black Watch Trimline, Southampton-based marine interior refurbishment specialists, has recently completed refurbishment work on Black Watch, one of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ premier cruise ships. The work to the 28,000-tonne ship required Trimline’s expert joiners to hand-make a nine-metre photo display unit from lightweight aluminium nomex, cherry laminate and solid cherry edging. Creating the display unit in under five weeks, Trimline was also tasked with making a number of bespoke display cabinets to compliment the large photo display unit. In early November, a team of two fitters from Trimline travelled to meet Black Watch in Newcastle, before sailing on board to Hamburg, while completing the installation of the photo display unit.

Sarah Stebbings, Deputy Hotel Operations Director at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “We have been thoroughly impressed with the work that Trimline has completed on Black Watch. They were able to work to a very specific brief, in a very short time frame, and the quality of workmanship has been excellent.” Following the work to Black Watch, Trimline has been asked by Fred. Olsen to undertake further refurbishment work on Fred. Olsen’s flagship, Balmoral, the cruise line’s largest vessel, including the creation of another bespoke photo display unit and the removal and replacement of bulk heads, deck heads, cabinet refurbishment and a refresh of the photo kiosk on board.

Cruise industry digs deep to support seafarers in need thanks to Seafarers UK Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), UK and Ireland, last night held its Annual Dinner on the Fred.Olsen Cruise Line’s MS Black Watch at Tilbury, attended by more than 450 cruise operators and travel agents. The fabulous ‘black tie’ event was in support of the Seafarers UK charity and marked the beginning of a charity partnership for 2015. The evening followed the recent decision by Seafarers UK Trustees to award grants totalling £1,087,081 to 26 projects in its November 2014 grants round. This included the award of a £35,000 grant to ‘Centres for Seafarers’, in support of welfare work for seafarers visiting the ports of Tilbury, Southampton, Fawley and DP World London Gateway. Much of the port welfare work at Tilbury includes helping seafarers working on cruise ships, so there was a nice symmetry to CLIA’s Annual Dinner being held at Tilbury and in support of Seafarers UK. Seafarers UK’s Director General Commodore Barry Bryant RN explained: ‘I am delighted that we have not only been able to support this request for funding by Centres for Seafarers, which provides such a fantastic and welcoming service to all seafarers visiting its centres, but that CLIA UK and Ireland has in turn been able to support Seafarers UK. We receive no government funding and the charity is heavily dependent on public donations, corporate support and legacies to maintain its grant making programme.’ Andy Harmer, CEO of CLIA UK & Ireland, said: ‘It was great to support Seafarers UK at the 2014 Cruise Forum and Annual Dinner and we look forward to working with them closely in 2015.’ www.seafarers.uk

The municipal cruise industry project “Cruise Net Hamburg”, a joint initiative of the public part of the Ministry for Economy, Transport and Innovation’s Central Office for the Cruise Industry and the private companies united under the umbrella of the HCC association will focus on making a contribution towards this bundling. TAKE TEN YEARS Many Happy Returns Cruise Baltic!

At this month’s Cruise Baltic meeting held in Denmark at the Scandic Copenhagen Hotel, over 40 delegates combined a 2-day business agenda with also celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the original formation of the Association in 2004. Representatives from 24 destinations – from both ports and tourism – joined Cruise Baltic Director, Claus Bødker for a comprehensive programme of activity; and in welcoming two prestigious cruise line guests, Steven Young, Director or Port Services & Government Affairs, Carnival UK; and James Langley, Marine Superintendent, Saga Cruises. Also, making a welcome return to a Cruise Baltic meeting, renowned industry analyst, author and broadcaster Tony Peisley, whose presentation expanded on the theme of his latest research report: “The End of the Beginning for the Cruise Industry”. The business-of-the-day agenda featured an industry update by Claus Bødker; face-to-face sessions - exchanging knowledge - between the ports and cruise line guests; and in open forum, topics discussed included examples of Best Practices at small, medium and large-sized ports – how to better facilitate communication among partner destinations. The first day concluded with a tour of Christiansborg Palace and an evening ‘winter wonderland’ walk in wonderful Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens – especially magical and atmospheric at this time of the year, with thousands of Christmas lights - and a sumptuous dinner at Nimb. Back at the Scandic Copenhagen Hotel, the delegates enjoyed some surprise entertainment provided by a talented magician and were also treated to a 10th Anniversary birthday cake and celebratory champagne. On day 2, stimulating debate between the Cruise Baltic partners and panellists Steven Young and James Langley on ‘how to achieve successful co-operation between the port and the city’ followed on from Tony Peisley’s presentation, when he spoke of what he believed were the important issues facing the itinerary planner today. “Ten or five years ago, it was probably true that passenger reaction was the main, although by no means the only, driver of itinerary selections. But not now. Whatever anyone says – it is definitely about the money now.

“Briefly for the major corporations, the days of the entrepreneurial spirit, which created and grew the cruise industry through its first 45 years, are over. We are now in an era where business analytics rule and gut instinct is increasingly sidelined, or at least, ignored. Ports and destinations have to accept the new reality and find ways to survive and prosper within it.” Also on the agenda, delegates had the opportunity to visit Copenhagen Malmö Port, recent recipient of an award for its new Ocean cruise terminals. On behalf of the City of Copenhagen, its Culture and Leisure Committee, awards honours to attractive buildings and urban developments constructed since 1902. The citation stated: “these cruise terminals are outstandingly suited to their function. Their practical expression balances well with their purpose. To those sailing in, the buildings appear like sails, cliffs or waves, rising asymmetrically by the giant cruise liners.” In September this year, Copenhagen was recognized as ‘Port of the Year’ in the Seatrade Insider 2014 Awards. On conclusion of the Meeting, guest speaker James Langley, Saga, commented: “Attending the Cruise Baltic meeting proved extremely useful and provided a great opportunity to meet with ports in the Baltic Sea region and discuss challenges faced by the industry. It was particularly effective to meet the ports individually and to review previous calls and assess options for future seasons. I would recommend attendance to any cruise line colleagues and hope to come back in the future.”

AmaWaterways Confirms Passing Of Jimmy Murphy, Co-Founder And Travel Industry Legend AmaWaterways has confirmed the passing of company co-founder Jimmy Murphy. Murphy passed on 18th December at the age of 82, surrounded by family. Rudi Schreiner, president and co-owner of AmaWaterways said, “I have known Jimmy Murphy for 25 years and the more I got to know him, the more I realised what a unique, true gentleman Jimmy Murphy actually was. In 2002, Jimmy, Kristin Karst and I decided to start our own river cruise line and during our 12-year partnership at AmaWaterways, our families became very close. When Kristin and I got married in April 2011, Jimmy took over Kristin’s ‘Father of the Bride’ role since her own father no longer travelled long distances and he gracefully guided Kristin to the altar. We all loved Jimmy Murphy and he will be missed by all of us.” Born and raised in Ireland, Murphy spent nine years with a retail travel agency in Dublin before moving to the United States. He served as a sales executive with Aer Lingus for eleven years before co-founding Brendan Worldwide Vacations in 1969. In 2006, Murphy sold the company after it had become one of the country’s most successful tour operators. During his tenure at Brendan Worldwide Vacations, Murphy spent four years as national treasurer of American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA). He was instrumental in the creation of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA), serving as founding president and the company’s first-ever chairman, followed by a second chairman stint in 1992. (Photo courtesy of Murphy family) In 1995, Murphy received ASTA’s Allied Member of the Year Award and in 2003, was inducted into the ASTA Hall of Fame. Murphy co-founded AmaWaterways in 2002 with Schreiner and Karst, noting that river cruising was “a thing of the future,” recognizing the opportunities for innovation that were to come from this rapidly growing segment of the travel industry. He served as chairman and co-owner of AmaWaterways until his passing. Murphy’s son, Gary, who is AmaWaterways’ vice president of sales, commented, “I feel blessed, for rarely do a father and son have the opportunity to share so much together. As a family, we count our blessings for our husband and father, and each other. Dad introduced us to the world, and how to live well in it.” Murphy is survived by his wife, Sheila Murphy, and his children, Sharon Devitt, Susan Murphy, Sean Murphy and Gary Murphy. Services will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Corpus Christie Church, 880 Toyopa Drive, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272. Additional services will be held in Ireland on January 12, 2015, where Murphy will be buried. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the attention of Paul K. Smith, written to “The Archdiocese of LA fbo Murphy Music Fund” at Archdiocese of Los Angeles, 3424 Wilshire Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90010.

MSC Sinfonia Enters Dry Dock As Stretching Begins MSC Cruises has begun work to transform the second of its four Lirica-class ships with the arrival of MSC Sinfonia at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Sicily.

Redfrog Pub, Alchemy Bar, Other Fun Ship 2.0 Innovations To Be Added To Carnival Miracle During Extensive Dry Dock in Spring 2015 Carnival Miracle will undergo an extensive refurbishment this spring that will add an array of new and exciting onboard innovations, from unique bar concepts like RedFrog Pub and Alchemy Bar to fun entertainment choices such as Playlist Productions and Hasbro, The Game Show, and the family-friendly Seuss at Sea programme.

The work to lengthening and refit the vessel over the next 10 weeks will now include the addition of dedicated kids’ club areas from LEGO and Chicco – extending the exciting brand partnerships introduced on sister ship MSC Armonia. That ship returned to service on November 17 2014. The €200 million ‘Renaissance project’ is upgrading all four of MSC Cruises’ smallest, Lirica-class, ships with the addition of new pre-built mid-sections to add balcony cabins, plus comprehensive onboard enhancements. Fincantieri’s world-class marine engineers will carefully bisect MSC Sinfonia’s hull, after which the two halves of the ships will be slowly drawn apart. On 20 and 21 January they will insert a 2,200GT, 24-metre midsection containing 193 extra cabins. Then they will refit and renew much of the ship’s interior, bringing an enhanced sense of comfort and space. Before MSC Sinfonia’s arrival, Fincantieri’s preparations were already well under way for the work on board and in the shipyard. On January 9, the new midsection was floated into the shipyard and hauled into the dry-dock area where MSC Sinfonia will remain for the duration of its stay. Once the work is complete and sea trials completed, the larger, smarter MSC Sinfonia will weigh anchor from the shipyard on March 25 for Genoa, from where it will begin for a maiden cruise to Ajaccio, Barcelona and Marseille. MSC Sinfonia will feature new purpose-built areas for children created in partnership with Chicco and LEGO, and a new Baby Club, Mini Club, Young Club and Teens Club. MSC Cruises executive director UK and Ireland Giles Hawke said: “Everyone at MSC Cruises loves our partnerships with LEGO and Chicco – they are two fantastic internationally-renowned brands. It is great news that we are giving families even more opportunity to enjoy these facilities by adding them to MSC Sinfonia.” MSC Cruises has also reimagined the onboard dining experiences, keeping the buffet open 20 hours per day and installing fresh new dining spaces, a brand new lounge and an extended restaurant. The ship’s MSC Aurea Spa will also be enriched with additional massage areas, and a new outdoor spray park will be added on deck 13 – an exciting series of playful water features and jets. The remainder of the Renaissance Programme will progress according to the following schedule: • •

MSC Opera: May 2 to July 4 2015 MSC Lirica: August 31 to November 2 2015

MSC Cruises currently carries roughly 40,000 guests per day, but by 2022 will double its capacity to 80,000 guests a day – 3.4 million per year – once the Renaissance Programme is completed and the last of seven planned ships is delivered.

The new features – part of the line’s ongoing Fun Ship 2.0 product enhancement initiative – will be added during a two-week-long dry dock that will take place 7th – 21st March, 2015. The enhancements include: • Red Frog Pub – a Caribbean-inspired watering hole featuring the region’s best rums and beers – including Carnival’s own ThirstyFrog Red – enjoyed in a distinct BritishWest-Indies-meets-Key-West atmosphere • Alchemy Bar – at this vintage-themed cocktail “pharmacy,” mixologists “prescribe” concoctions from different elixirs and ingredients with creative names like “Forty is the New Twenty” and “Restorative Basil Drop” • Playlist Productions – these four spectacular shows – 88 Keys, 80’s Pop To the Max, Getaway Island and Heart Of Soul – combine captivating live performances of recognisable pop and rock songs with dazzling special effects to create unforgettable evenings of entertainment • Seuss At Sea – part of an exclusive partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Seuss at Sea brings the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss to life with fun activities like the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with the Cat in the Hat and Friends, Seuss-aPalooza Story Time, and more • Hasbro, The Game Show – this audience-participation favourite features larger-than-life adaptations of the brand’s iconic and popular games with titles including Connect4 Basketball, Sorry Sliders, and Yahtzee Bowling • Cherry On Top – this “candy and more store” celebrates the joys of simple indulgences with bins of bulk candy, fun fanciful gifts and novelties, custom clothing and more • New SPORTS Bar – at this sports lovers’ paradise, guests can catch live sporting events and check out scores on the real-time 24/7 sports ticker • Spin U – developed in partnership with legendary DJ IRIE, Carnival’s official DJ, who has entertained crowds from South Beach to Las Vegas, this fun DJ academy provides aspiring spin-masters ages 15-17 all they need to know to “hit the decks” and rock the club! Hurtigruten to offer springtime expeditions to 80° North Svalbard in springtime is a land of contradictions, incredible beauty and unique experiences. It may be remote, but from 2016 it will become much more accessible as Hurtigruten will be the only company to offer spring expedition cruises as far as 80° North. While flowers are starting to blossom on the European mainland, in Spitsbergen the polar winter still reigns. Sea ice is dominant in the fjords and wherever passengers make landfall they will encounter snow and ice. They may even spot female polar bears with their clumsy cubs or seals giving birth to their young. Yet, despite the wintery feel, in Svalbard the first day of midnight sun is 20th April, making for an incredible experience. Departing on 25 April and 4 May, the ‘Polar pioneers of Svalbard’ is a new ten day itinerary departing from Tromso and exploring the remote island of Bjornoya, Spitsbergen and the North Cape (the northernmost point of mainland Europe) before heading back to Tromso – a sailing distance of 1,600 miles. Philip Price, Managing Director commented “We are very excited about being the only company to operate to Svalbard at this time of year, when expeditions are normally reserved for the more temperate summer months. It is indicative of the pioneering history and philosophy of Hurtigruten that we continue to operate new and exciting voyages to our customers“. The voyages have gone on sale as part of Hurtigruten’s Explorer programme for 2016. Those who book from the new preview brochure can take advantage of early booking savings of more than 25% per person. Price for the ‘Polar Pioneer of Svalbard’ start from £1,222 per person including the early booking offers. The price includes the ten day voyage in an inside cabin on MS Fram, full-board basis plus landings. Flight and transfer packages are available for an additional cost. Local skills agreement for Dover signed The Port of Dover and East Kent College have signed an important agreement, which will see them strengthen the local economy and deliver exciting career prospects for young people in Dover. The Memorandum of Understanding, signed by Tim Waggott, Chief Executive at the Port of Dover and Graham Razey, Principal of East Kent College, focuses on how to develop the skills of local people to support the ongoing development and future success of the Port. The Port of Dover, as the major local employer, and East Kent College will now work closely to identify the skills needed by Europe’s busiest ferry port and its customers. Once the skills issues have been identified, the two organisations will develop joint training programmes. The agreement also focuses on the future skills required as part of Dover Western Docks Revival, a key transformational project bringing 600 new jobs, so the training can be put in place for local people to benefit from this significant opportunity. Graham Razey, Principal of East Kent College, said: “Since taking on the Dover campus from the former K College, and establishing a base at Discovery Park, we have worked hard to get to know the local business community and better understand their needs in terms of skills and training. “It is clear from our conversations with Tim and his colleagues that we have a shared vision for a stronger, more dynamic Dover economy with a greater emphasis on matching the skills needs of business with the vocational skills we are helping to deliver, particularly those of the Port. “This agreement is the first of what we hope will be a series of strategic alliances with the major businesses that are driving the economy of Dover, Shepway and Thanet forward.” Given the Port’s current and future importance to the country’s freight and logistics industry, the agreement has identified the need to consider developing Dover into a nationally recognised centre of excellence for logistics training as one of its priorities. Tim Waggott, Chief Executive of the Port of Dover, added: “Our plans for the revival of the Western Docks have been warmly welcomed by local residents and businesses. This agreement will help ensure that local people will be able to gain the necessary skills and be well placed to benefit from the future growth of the port. “As we invest in our future and that of Dover, there will be a greater demand for appropriately skilled people and we need to ensure that we can continue to and increasingly recruit them locally to support our growth. This agreement is therefore extremely important in ensuring our collective ability to help strengthen the economy of Dover, and East Kent more widely.” As part of the collaboration, the Port and East Kent College will explore opportunities to develop high quality facilities for the delivery of the programmes, either at East Kent College’s Dover campus or at the Port. There will also be collaboration on funding bids and projects to increase the investment in skills that supports the efficient running of the Port’s operations. Through the programme, East Kent College students will have the opportunity to undertake a range of work placement and experience opportunities at the Port, with the aim of ensuring there are increased employment opportunities for local students.

Just off the ship’s atrium lobby, the Explorer Lounge provides more of a country club vibe with rich mahogany wood columns, comfortable leather chairs, deep blue fabrics and sumptuous flooring. On one side of the lounge, a golden proscenium outlines a small stage where live musical performances will take place, and anchoring the opposite end, a polished black marble bar ringed by plush, deep opal blue bar stools stands ready to serve guests their favourite beverages. Cool down in the hottest new spots at sea on Norwegian Escape Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest and largest ship, Norwegian Escape, will offer a wide array of spaces for guests to relax and unwind while at sea when the ship debuts in October 2015. Guests will be transported into sheer serenity with the line’s most innovative Mandara Spa to date, a tranquil hideaway that at its epicentre will feature the largest Thermal Suite at sea, outfitted with the line’s first Snow Room. In addition to the luxurious spa, adults will have two private lounge spaces to enjoy on board at Vibe Beach Club and Spice H2O, which will feature an all-new grotto area for guests to cool off after a day of sunbathing.

Trimline Complete Fourteen-Day Refit of Thomson Dream Trimline, Southampton-based marine interior refurbishment specialists, have completed a large refurbishment of the 55,000 tonne cruise liner, Thomson Dream, in Gibraltar.

Norwegian Escape’s Mandara Spa experience, spanning two decks, will transport guests to a deep state of relaxation, with unobstructed views of the ocean, the opportunity to melt away on one of the 17 heated loungers, or find instant stress relief in the spa’s hydrotherapy pool, whirlpools, steam room, dry sauna, sanarium and salt room.

Following a recent refurbishment of Thomson Celebration, the 187 strong Trimline team of joiners, fitters, furnishers, deck head team, plumbers, electricians and decorators, worked intensely, joining the ship as passengers disembarked in Malaga and leaving before the next passengers embarked in Lanzarote.

Once guests have heated up, they can step into the rejuvenating Snow Room, a first for the line. The Snow Room, which ranges from a frosty minus 6 to 0 degrees Celsius, sends out a flurry of powdery snow throughout the day, offering guests a multitude of health benefits, including stimulating blood circulation in the body and strengthening the immune system.

Reconfiguration work took place inside the ship, where Trimline created four new guest cabins. The new cabins included new wet units, which were constructed and plumbed by Trimline, as well as additional furnishings and electrical work to the interior. Trimline also fitted new baths and bath panels in a number of cabins.

In addition to the spectacular Thermal Suite, Norwegian Escape’s Mandara Spa will be equipped with 24 contemporary furnished treatment rooms offering more than 50 signature services for both men and women including massages such as the Elemis Aroma Spa Seaweed Massage; Elemis signature facials such as the luxurious Elemis Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Facial; and signature body enhancing treatments like the Exotic Lime & Ginger Salt Glow.

The Broadway Show Lounge was refreshed with new carpet throughout, new curtains and re-upholstery on over 500 chairs and sofas. All fabrics and upholstery were made at Trimline headquarters in Southampton by the specialist in-house soft furnishings team. On the same deck, the Lido Restaurant had new carpets fitted throughout.

Norwegian Escape’s full service salon will have guests looking their very best with a wide-array of hair, nails, waxing and kid-friendly services, along with acupuncture, teeth whitening and cosmetic medical treatments, performed by a licensed medi-spa doctor, such as Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport™, Restylane® and Perlane®. In addition, guests can go home tightened and toned by opting for a Thermage® CPT treatment, a premier non-invasive skin rejuvenating therapy that uses radiofrequency to improve the appearance of skin on the face and body in just one contour treatment. The salon area will also feature a Barber Shop, offering exclusive men’s signature services such as the Elemis Pro-Collagen Grooming Treatment with Shave and more.

Ocean Bar was re-carpeted and had the back bar optics replaced along with decoration to low level cabinets to smarten the bar’s appearance. The Photo Studio’s shutters were re-clad, painted and had new carpet and curtains fitted.

Guests looking to stay fit while sailing, or who wish to try an exciting new exercise experience, can do so in Norwegian Escape’s stateof-the-art fitness centre furnished with the latest Technogym® weight training and cardio equipment. All cardio equipment will synch to Apple music devices and feature a large, HD screen from which guests can watch television, follow a set training programme or navigate the playlist. Norwegian group fitness favourites will be offered on board including Pilates, body sculpting boot camp, yoga, Zumba and TRX. Boxing buffs can enjoy Norwegian’s Fight Klub™, a high-intensity cardio boxing class. Personal training sessions will also be available, along with nutritional consultations and metabolic testing.

On deck 11, the Terrace Grill had new shutters installed and the bar was re-clad with teak effect tiles. The deck heads were painted and new perimeter lighting was installed to provide ambient lighting effects for evening dining.

Norwegian Escape will also feature Spice H2O and Vibe Beach Club, two adult-only outdoor favourites perfect for lounging away the day. Spice H2O, located at the back of the ship on deck 17, is an adultonly enclave offering day-time complimentary leisure. A bevy of sun loungers surround a huge video screen, while two hot tubs await for those looking to de-stress. An all-new soothing grotto area, complete with waterfalls and perfect for cooling off from the warm Caribbean sun, will offer an exotic escape. At night, all guests can dance under the stars in this open-air dance club or enjoy a cocktail at the bar with accompanying lounge area, featuring comfortable seating while admiring the ocean views.

The Sunlounge Bar was fitted with a new stainless steel bar top and a full length canopy was installed to cover the bar seating for the comfort of passengers outside. Sirens Restaurant had 40m² of flooring repaired along with new carpets, floor tiling, lighting and new roller blinds fitted to the servery.

Seven lifts had flooring and deck heads replaced, new bulk heads, lighting and decoration and 19 public toilets were re-decorated and new marble tops, taps and toilet back boxes were installed. Finally, the Shorex Desk and the Thomson Manager Office were given new Amtico flooring, banquet seating and new desks plus three multimedia pods were created and installed for passenger excursion bookings on-board. Andrew Richards, CEO at Trimline, commented: “The work to Thomson Dream came after a successful refurbishment of the Thomson Celebration, which Trimline were delighted to win. Winning repeat refurbishments is testament to the work of our team and the commitment and dedication that we show to our customers. Heading into our 50th Anniversary in 2015, this is a quality that Trimline is very proud of.”

Crystal Cruises Kicks Off 25th Anniversary Of Luxury Cruising With Itinerary Highlights & Special Celebrations Celebrating two and a half decades as a leader in luxury travel, Crystal Cruises is embarking on a year of commemorative celebrations, cruises hosted by the company’s leadership – both past and present – plus much more. That is, more itineraries (63) sailing to more ports of call (224) in more countries (65), including more than double the number of maiden calls (24) in 2014. Kicking off Crystal’s 25th Anniversary is the line’s first-ever circumnavigation of the globe. The 108-night, round-trip Miami “Silver Celebration World Cruise” begins 14th January on Crystal Serenity and is the line’s 20th annual epic journey. Crystal Symphony begins 2015 immersed in a dazzling Asia series featuring Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, China and Japan. In addition to the new and favourite highlights of the year’s global itineraries, new onboard entertainment and amenities, plus enriching experiences ashore punctuate travelers’ Crystal experiences in the coming year. “A hallmark of Crystal’s philosophy for more than two decades has been to pioneer new programmes, amenities, experiences and destinations, offering luxury travellers a truly unique journey each time they step aboard a Crystal ship,” says Crystal president and COO, Edie Rodriguez. “In 2015, we’re continuing that philosophy, pushing the limits and visiting new destinations while celebrating the unchanging values that have made us the best in the world.” Of the 224 ports scheduled in 65 countries, two dozen of them are brand new for Crystal ships. The line’s unprecedented calls include lesser-known destinations such as Albany, Australia; Ambodifotatra and Taolanaro, Madagascar; Arrecife, Canary Islands; Richards Bay, South Africa; Sanary-sur-Mer, France; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Souda Bay/Chania, Greece; Aomori, Japan; Archangel, Korsakov and Solovetsky Islands, Russian Federation; Belawan, Indonesia; Rijeka, Croatia; Bodø, Narvik and Øye/Hjørundfjord, Norway; Helgoland, Germany; Londonderry/Greencastle and Galway, Ireland; Kochi, Japan; Sanya, China; and Scarborough, Trinidad and Tobago. Onboard, guests can revel in the celebration of Crystal’s 25th Anniversary with special parties and receptions and European voyages hosted by Rodriguez and the company’s Chairman Nōbuyoshi Kuzuya. Additionally, the festivities continue on four Trans-Atlantic, South America and Asia itineraries hosted by long beloved Crystal captains Glenn Edvardsen, Reidulf Maalen, Helge Brudvik and John Økland. The line-up of festive occasions adds to the growing list of features guests can enjoy in 2015 both onboard and ashore: Crystal Symphony Makeover: Crystal Symphony emerged from a $20 million-plus dry dock redesign in the autumn, featuring a new outdoor Fitness Garden; new equipment in the indoor Fitness Centre; new designs in the main lobby area and bar; redesigned spa and casino spaces; additional PURE allergy-friendly staterooms and technological upgrades. “My Life: The Music of Billy Joel.”: The newest show aboard Crystal Serenity pays tribute to Grammy Legend Award recipient and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, Billy Joel. Led by James Fox, who starred as the “The Piano Man” in the Broadway smash hit Movin Out, the 30-minute performance features more than a dozen timeless hits including “New York State of Mind”, “Uptown Girl”, “She’s Always a Woman to Me” and, of course, “Piano Man.” The Galaxy Orchestra and more of Crystal’s own acclaimed musicians, vocalists and dancers are featured alongside Fox. Late Risers’ Adventures: Crystal recently introduced a collection of shoreside excursions scheduled especially for travellers who don’t want to miss the adventures ashore – or their beauty sleep. The “Late Risers” excursions offer the same enriching experiences in the world’s most stunning and important destinations, beginning at 11am or noon, depending on the itinerary. Sightseeing on the Run: In response to a growing active traveller quotient, guests can now see the sights – and maintain fitness - with Crystal’s new “Site Running” Adventures. Free Wi-Fi: Crystal Society members (our “club” of repeat guests) receive 60 minutes of complimentary internet access for every day of the cruise.
