Wednesday 18th September Walk the Sights of Liverpool and Raise Money for Cancer Research UK
Delegates attending the CLIA Columbus Day event in Liverpool on Thursday 19th September can enjoy a walk around the city sights on the evening of Wednesday 18th September and at the same time raise money for Cancer Research UK! Cancer Research UK - a partner of Holland America Line’s “On Deck for a Cause” fundraising programme, raises money globally for cancer research, education, screening and treatment programmes.” Cancer Research UK is the designated charity for this year’s Columbus Day events. Join the CLIA and Holland America Line teams to walk Liverpool for a good cause. You can raise money via the CLIA dedicated Just Giving website ( http://www.justgiving.com/fundraising-page/creation/?cid=2357&eid=1143316 ) and all funds raised will go to Cancer Research UK. The 3.5 kilometre walk will start from the Staybridge Suites reception (Keel Wharf, Liverpool, L74 4AA) at 6.30pm and include Albert Dock, the newly renovated Liverpool waterfront and some city centre highlights. Wristbands, water and a welcome drink at a local hostelry (after the walk) will be provided by Holland America Line. Keynote Speakers Jo Rzymowska
Chair, CLIA UK & Ireland Jo Rzymowska joined Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCL Cruises Ltd) in January 2005 as Sales and Marketing Director, UK and Ireland, overseeing the company’s brands, Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises. In July 2007 Jo was appointed to the newly developed role of Associate Vice President and General Manager for the UK and Ireland taking on guest and trade sales and service to reflect the huge growth potential of the market. At this time RCL Cruises Ltd added Azamara Club Cruises to its portfolio. In 2011 Jo was awarded an Honorary Professorship at the University of West London and in 2012 she was presented with an award by the Association of Cruise Experts for Outstanding Contribution to Cruise. More recently in 2013, Jo was nominated in Travel Weekly as one of Top 10 Woman in the Travel & Leisure industry.
Michael Bayley President & CEO, Celebrity Cruises Seasoned travel and hospitality executive Michael Bayley was promoted to President & CEO of Celebrity Cruises – the cruise line whose iconic ‘X’ is the mark of modern luxury – effective August 13, 2012. Bayley’s career with the brand’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. (RCCL), spans 30 years. In his former role as Executive Vice President of Operations for Royal Caribbean International, Bayley oversaw the brand’s Hotel Operations; Marine Operations for Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club Cruises; Land Operations for Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises, and Commercial Development for RCCL. Bayley began his career with the company in 1981, working in a variety of shipboard and shoreside positions with increasing management responsibility, including that of Vice President of Total Guest Satisfaction, Fleet Operations. He also served as Vice President for Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino, one of the world’s largest premium gaming resorts, in Las Vegas.
Neil Palomba COO, MSC Cruises Neil Palomba is corporate operating officer (COO) of MSC Cruises. He works side-by-side with MSC Cruises CEO Pierfrancesco Vago in shaping the company’s strategy and future expansion while overseeing a variety of corporate functions. Prior to joining the corporate offices in Geneva, Switzerland, Palomba worked as chief operating officer in the U.S for the company’s North American division based in Fort Lauderdale. He was responsible for managing day-to-day operations, working closely with the sales and marketing teams to grow the business in the U.S and Canada. Palomba began his career at an early age with MSC working in a variety of positions both shipboard and landside in Italy. In 2011 he was appointed Chairman of CLIA-Europe (formerly European Cruise Council) Ports and Infrastructure Sub-Committee.
Nathan Philpot
Sales & Marketing Director, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines Nathan Philpot was appointed Sales & Marketing Director of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in September 2011. His role encompasses the majority of passenger facing functions including itinerary planning, pricing, onboard experience, brand development, distribution, ecommerce, reservations and customer service. His previous positions include Board Director at the Page & Moy Travel Group, which in addition to responsibility for their three escorted touring brands also included Ocean Cruise and River Cruise charters. He was Managing Director of Elegant Resorts, the UK’s leading luxury tour operator, where he oversaw the transition from an independently owned company to one owned by Thomas Cook.
Keynote Speakers Guy Zitter Group Managing Director of Mail Newspapers Guy has a BSc in Commerce, his first job was as a Senior Finance Officer for the Seychelles Government, and he has also owned and run his own nightclub and restaurants. He worked briefly with the Sunday Express before joining The Mail on Sunday advertising sales team in 1981. He was then appointed Advertising Director of the Daily Mail in 1989 and in October 1994 was appointed Managing Director of the Daily Mail, in 2004 he was also appointed Group Commercial Director of Associated Newspapers. In October 2008 he was promoted to Group Managing Director of Mail Newspapers, which encompasses the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, Mail Digital, Mail Ireland and the group’s share of Mail Today in India.

Best Selling Author, Business Ambassador and Mentor for the City of Liverpool Mike co-founded, built and sold his first company in the 1980. In the 1990s he worked on 17 start-ups, two of which later went public and three went broke! In 2002 he co-authored ‘The Beermat Entrepreneur’ which is a world-wide best-seller and now speaks at over 100 events per year all over the world, has mentored over 1000 entrepreneurs face-to-face in the last 10 years He is now Business Ambassador and Entrepreneur Mentor for the City of Liverpool, a very popular cruise destination
Christine Duffy
President & CEO, CLIA Christine Duffy is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Cruise Lines International Association, the trade association representing the $36 billion global cruise industry. In 2012, CLIA expanded its presence across the globe, bringing together 12 independent cruise associations under the CLIA brand. Today, CLIA has representation in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australasia. CLIA represents the interests of nearly 60 cruise lines, 46,000 individual travel agents associated with more than 13,000 global travel agency members, and over 200 industry partners, including port authorities, destinations and various maritime and travel industry suppliers.
Jo Malone Entrepreneur Having left school at a 13 with no qualifications, Jo worked as a beauty therapist in her London flat and began mixing bath oils for clients in her kitchen. Her hand made products became increasingly popular and eventually Jo opened her first Jo Malone London store in London in 1994. Four years later, she launched within the Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City. In 1999 Jo sold the Jo Malone London business to Estée Lauder Companies and continued to work as Creative Director until her exit in 2006. Two years later Jo was rewarded with an MBE for her services to the beauty industry. In 2010, Jo used her talents as an entrepreneur and business woman to present the four part TV series ‘High Street Dreams’. The concept of the series, thought up by Jo herself, was to help small businesses realise their dreams of trading on the Great British high street. The show was successful in creating six new British Brands. Jo has shared her experiences of business and branding in publications, radio and on numerous television shows including BBC One’s The Apprentice; You’re Hired, BBC Two’s Working Lunch, ITV1’s Loose Women and Lorraine.
