ABOUT UKEN 24

The UKEN festival in Bergen is one of the largest cultural festivals in Vestland and is exclusively organized by students in Bergen. The festival itself takes place in March 2024, but the work is already well underway. The UKEN festival, and especially the work leading up to it, will undoubtedly be the most fun, biggest, and most memorable thing you will do during your time as a student here in Bergen. Here, you will make connections across different classes and study programs, experience responsibility, gain a plethora of valuable experiences, and perhaps most importantly – have an incredibly amazing time!

The heart of it all is the UKErevyen. With traditions dating back to 1946, it can boast of having given many familiar faces their first time on stage and has also won several prizes in the National Championship in Student Revue – most recently in October 2022! In addition to the revue, UKEN offers everything from large to small concerts, world record attempts, Children and Elderly Days, and much, much more! Among the artists who have previously visited UKEN, you'll find 50 Cent, Karpe, Backstreet Boys, and Kygo. The magical atmosphere that arises when some of the world's biggest stars take the stage is indescribable, both for guests and fUKENtionaries.

With all that said, we must still mention that what truly makes UKEN something very special is the breadth and unity that emerges during UKEN. There are tasks for every taste here, and we can guarantee you both memories and friends for life. In this newsletter, you can read about all the groups that are hiring in UKEN 24's third hiring round, and you may apply for up to three positions. Note, however, that if you want to be an actor or dancer in the revue or be a part of the UKEorchestra, then you must attend an audition.

These positions in UKEN does NOT count among the three "regular" positions you can apply for. You can therefore choose to apply for three "regular" positions AND audition for an acting role, a dancing role or the UKEorchestra, you may adition for all three!

Once again, the UKE family is about to grow! Where we currently have just over a hundred fantastic fUKENtionaries, we are soon going to become an enormous crowd! UKEN is already well underway with the planning of UKEN 24. Now, we want you to join us in leaving your mark on Vestland's largest student-driven cultural festival!

Undoubtedly, UKEN is the most memorable and enjoyable experience you can have during your time as a student. Together, we will organize concerts, shows, and events - in short, we will create a fantastic amount of UKEN joy!

UKEN is unquestionably the largest subcommittee in the student association. Here, over 1000 fUKENtionaries will create the biggest festival in 2024. UKEN will have something for everyone, and if you have a great idea that you're eager to bring to life, just join us! The ambitions are high, and we are now looking for those of you who want to contribute to making UKEN 24 the best UKEN ever!

This is UKEN's third hiring round, and we are announcing a great many different positions spread across all 7 sections of UKEN. Common to all positions is that we are looking for engaged students seeking a lot of fun and valuable experiences. Personally, this is my third time with UKEN, and I can honestly say it's the best decision I've made during my time as a student. UKEN is so much more than just a few (fantastic) weeks in March every even year!

UAs you continue to browse through this brochure, you will see that there truly is something for every taste. Whether it's shows and revues, working at a bar, or negotiating agreements - UKEN has something for everyone.

Here, you can shine in something you've done before or step far out of your comfort zone. We want curious first-year students as well as seasoned veterans from all of Bergen's study programs - the most important thing is a burning desire to contribute to creating Norway's best cultural festival!

The Revue Section is hiring!

Now you have finally reached the right section! The UKErevy (UKEN Revue) is the very heart of UKEN, and it has been this way since 1946! The revue contributes to spreading joy throughout the city of Bergen, while simultaneously achieving numerous awards from the National Championship in Student Revues. This is something we want to continue, and therefore, we are seeking skilled fUKENtionaries for all our exciting positions. You will be responsible for shopping, creating, and assembling absolutely everything the performers will wear in UKErevyen 2024! Additionally, you will be responsible for getting the performers ready for the stage! You'll get to see, and be a part of, the real behind-the-scenes of UKErevyen 2024!!

As a middle manager in the costume group, you will be my right hand, and you and I will work closely together leading up to UKErevyen 2024. Together, we will assemble the team of a lifetime! <33

You will work closely with other parts of the revue and utilize your creative abilities to craft an unforgettable light show. As a part of the Revue Sound team, you will be responsible for handling the sound for UKErevyen 2024. Throughout the process, you will be introduced to exciting technical equipment and have the opportunity to master a digital mixing console with various functions. Our main goal is to ensure that the audience in the hall hears everything happening on stage; both the orchestra and the performers need YOU to shine on stage. Your involvement in the sound work for the revue will allow you to follow the development of the revue from concept to a brilliant performance. Fear not if you lack previous experience in sound engineering – no prior knowledge is required as this will be taught along the way! NOTE! Dance auditions will take place on Tuesday, September 5th. Dazzling lights, pounding bass, a screaming audience, and the curtain rises. This could be your UKEN. If you love being on stage, the revue dancer position is for you! Not only will you be a part of the greatest revue, but you'll also become a member of a lively and dance-loving group. As a dancer, you contribute to creating a cohesive revue, showcasing both fun and intricate choreographies alongside the performers and the rest of the dancers.

We're looking for dancers for UKErevyen 2024 and we hope YOU want to audition. No prior experience is required, but it's certainly a plus if you have motivation and an interest in dance!

Do you love being creative, have a keen eye for the visual, tinker a bit in your cabin, or create atmospheric experiences at your home party with decorations or a Kon-tiki bar? Then I'm looking for you, someone who wants to be my right hand in designing the stage solution and acquiring the most extravagant props for the prestigious UKErevyen. I'm searching for an initiative-taking intermediary who sees solutions and contributes to taking care of the revue's handiest crew. You won't want to miss this!

As a fUKENtionary, you'll have diverse and exciting tasks related to everything concerning the stage setup and procuring props for our beloved UKErevy. This could involve anything from building stage structures to crafting a gigantic beer can. The Sales Section is hiring!

The time has finally come - UKEN's biggest, best, and most festive section is once again taking shape! With up to 400 fUKENtionaries, the sales section is undoubtedly UKEN's finest section, and it's us who will ensure that all of UKEN's guests have an unforgettable experience (before the day after). Sure, some people enjoy concerts, and some souls also like revues. But EVERYONE enjoys a great party! And who are the bosses there? SALES!

In the sales section, we will jointly run some of Bergen's biggest and coolest bars, open our very own UKE restaurant, supply all of UKEN's guests with much-needed late-night food, and organize the most legendary after-parties in the entire city of Bergen. As a volunteer in fUKEN, you will be part of an extremely social and party-loving group. Deep inside the basement, behind closed doors and side corridors, there's a room that is usually kept closed. This is the fUKENtionaries' own after-party bar, where the best parties take place.

Your role as a volunteer is to keep the party going and make sure none of the guests leave But first, your task will be to put together the coolest concept and the most awesome atmosphere in the room.

This gig is totally accessible to everyone. In Live Video, our mission is to make sure that everyone taking part in UKEN events gets a front-row seat to all the on-stage excitement. Even if you roll in fashionably late and end up at the back, no worries – you'll catch the entire show on the big screens in the Aula through our live stream. As a middle manager you'll assist in key decisions, manage projects, and develop leadership skills. Many people think that a typical show personality must love stage exposure, but the group also needs those who can pull the strings behind the scenes and who are a bit organized. BOOKING 4 ARTIST HOSTS (ARTISVERT)

As responsible for backstage and riders, YOU will have the opportunity to create the ideal backstage area for the cool artists who will be performing at the festival during UKEN! This gives you a small insight into the music industry and close collaboration with the booking team throughout the process. Your role will be to ensure that UKEN's artists are taken care of in the best possible way. This requires you to be organized and able to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.

As an artist host, you will be responsible for one or more of the artists performing during UKEN. This involves collaboration with the booking team to arrange and plan ahead of the concerts, as well as hosting the artists during the festival. Additionally, you'll get to be part of all the fun leading up to UKEN.

Technical group for events (Arr.tek.) is searching for ten eager and willing fUKENsjonærer. As a member of the Arr.tek. team your main assignment will be as stagehands on the various concerts in connection with UKEN24. Being stagehands involves rigging sound and lighting equipment, as well as facilitating for the artist´ technical needs, ensuring the best possible concert experience for all! Therefore, as a fUKENsjonær you will work closely with the artists and their crew, and at certain concerts have access to everything on stage and soundchecks.
