Do you want to take part in developing sustainable tourism futures? Tourism, a growing industry in northern and Arctic regions, is influenced by globalisation and environmental transformation. It also plays a role in changing the North. Tourism can be a positive force in community development and in accomplishing creative solutions to societal challenges. That said it also creates unwanted pressures that have negative effects on community structures and the environment. The Master´s Degree Programme in Norther Tourism examines the issues that impact the fragile northern areas. The University of Lapland is the only university in Finland that awards master’s and doctor’s degrees in tourism research. With us, you will be studying in a “living lab” – in Rovaniemi, Lapland, where tourism is present every day and throughout the year. In the Northern Tourism programme you also have the unique opportunity to learn from an international and interdisciplinary group of experts and fellow students via collaboration with the University of the Arctic’s (UArctic) Thematic Network on Northern Tourism.
