The Master’s Degree Programme in Tourism, Culture and International Management (TourCIM) responds to the needs of the rapidly expanding cultural and tourism industries and educates professionals with the ability to develop and execute responsible tourism. Our hometown, Rovaniemi, is one of the leading tourism destinations in Europe. With us you will be studying in a “living Lab” – tourism is present every day and throughout the year. ULapland is the only university in Finland that awards master’s and doctor’s degrees in tourism research. The diversity of the programme and the outgoing professors with multidisciplinary backgrounds give you the opportunity to define your personal research and study interests. TourCIM prepares you for identifying opportunities, working innovatively, and reflecting on contemporary tourism production and consumption practices. The two-year master’s degree programme provides you with knowledge and tools necessary to work on the interface between the production and consumption of tourism experiences. It differs from other tourism management programmes in that it combines teaching and research from management and cultural studies, exploring the nexus of culture and business. By connecting tourism, culture, and international management, we will explore tourism as a phenomenon defined by a consumer society and business culture driven by contemporary lifestyles and values. The TourCIM programme is based on the idea that a good understanding of the social and cultural dimensions of tourism is essential for a future career in responsible tourism. Our teaching and research reflect this mindset and consider it as fundamental in gaining a more comprehensive view of tourism as a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon.

Master of Social Sciences Tourism Research 120 ECTS 2 years (full time) January August • a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field • good command of English for academic purposes
The tuition fee for students outside the EU/EEA is 8000 euros per academic year. University of Lapland offers scholarships for students who are required to pay tuition fees. There are also full scholarships available.
