Pre-Science Program Guidelines for becoming a full-time science major
The Pre-Science Program is designed for students whose goal is to pursue a career in the sciences, but who were not directly admitted into a science major. The program lets you take the courses you need in order to make a smooth transition into any of the biology, chemistry, or medical laboratory science majors. You will begin at UMassD as an Arts & Sciences undeclared major, and you will be advised by a STAR Center advisor regarding the courses you should take.
BIOLOGY
• Overall GPA of 2.5 or better • Grades of C or better in all of the courses listed below: • College Algebra (MTH 148) and Introductory Calculus (MTH 149) • Chemistry I and II with lab* • Biology I and II with lab** Three to four semesters will likely be required to complete these courses.
BIOCHEMISTRY
• Overall GPA of 2.5 or better • Grades of C or better in all of the courses listed below: • Pre-Calculus (MTH 150) and Calculus I (MTH 151) • Chemistry I and II with lab* • Biology I and II with lab** Two to four semesters will likely be required to complete these courses.
CHEMISTRY
• Overall GPA of 2.5 or better • Grades of C or better in all of the courses listed below: • Pre-Calculus (MTH 150) and Calculus I (MTH 151) • Chemistry I and II with lab* Two to four semesters will likely be required to complete these courses.
MARINE BIOLOGY
• Overall GPA of 2.5 or better • Grades of C or better in all of the courses listed below: • College Algebra (MTH 148) and Introductory Calculus (MTH 149) • Chemistry I and II with lab* • Biology I and II with lab** Three to four semesters will likely be required to complete these courses.
MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE
• Overall GPA of 2.5 or better • Grades of C or better in all of the courses listed below: • College Algebra (MTH 148) • Chemistry I and II with lab*
