The Adult/Gerontology Primary Care AGNP Track is for applicants with a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. AGNPs care for patients 12 and older throughout the lifespan in a variety of healthcare settings.
Graduates will complete the required coursework and clinical experiences for certification as an Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
The Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP) Track is for applicants with a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. PMHNPs care for psychiatric patients throughout the lifespan.
Graduates will complete the required coursework and clinical experiences for certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD)
The PhD in Nursing is a research-focused degree that prepares Nurse Scientist Educators. A structured mentorship begins upon admission. Substantive content and experiential learning are provided in three areas; research, scholarship on chronic illness, and scholarship and leadership in nursing education.
The UMassD PhD in Nursing program is a hybrid model with three online classes per semester. Post BS and Post MS options are offered.

Bachelor of Science Programs
Nursing
The College of Nursing & Health Sciences offers Massachusetts’ only BS in nursing program located south of Boston. Our undergraduate nursing programs provide a seamless progression from nursing student to practicing nurse with the comprehensive education required in this rewarding and challenging profession. Students also develop the foundation for advanced studies in nursing. Undergraduate nursing applicants are accepted for the fall semester only.
RN to BS Program (BS)
This program provides registered nurses an online baccalaureate curriculum with individualized support. It is a degree completion program for those who already hold a valid RN license in the state where they reside. Students may transfer non-nursing course credits from other accredited institutions to meet most program requirements.

Second Degree Accelerated BS in Nursing Program
Students already holding a bachelor’s degree in another discipline from an accredited institution can apply for the accelerated BS degree in nursing. This full-time program can be completed in 17 months and prepares students for the NCLEX exam.
In this hybrid program, fully online classes are complemented by on-campus interaction for laboratory and simulation. Clinical education is offered at leading hospitals and medical centers in southeastern Massachusetts and Providence, RI.
Students should plan to be on campus for at least three full days per week for clinical work in addition to their full-time online course load.

Medical Laboratory Science
Our comprehensive program, one of the largest in the nation, is a university-based, integrated medical laboratory science program. Our curriculum focuses on the standard medical laboratory disciplines of clinical chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, microbiology, immunology, and blood banking. You’ll learn to use state-of-the-art equipment and will complete a one-semester senior-year practicum in one of our affiliated hospitals.
Graduates from the program are prepared for the Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) examination offered by the Board of Certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) and have scored well above the national average.

in Medical Laboratory Science
This online BS degree is offered to students who hold an associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from an NAACLS-accredited institution. An in-depth study of medical laboratory science, this part-time, cohort-based program is designed to be completed in 24 months of continued enrollment.

Minor in Global Health
The minor is open to undergraduates from all majors and is administered by the College of Nursing & Health Sciences. The minor will provide undergraduate students with multidisciplinary exposure to the theoretical, scientific, and practical issues affecting the health of people on the global stage.

Master of Science in Nursing (MS)
This fully online program offers two concentrations that prepare you to be a leader in nursing education and/or global public health. Generally, students take two courses each semester and complete the program in three years.
The Nursing and Healthcare Education concentration prepares you for a nurse educator role in academic, clinical, or staff development settings. You’ll learn to design, implement, evaluate, and revise academic and continuing education programs for nurses.
The Global Public Health concentration prepares you to work in the U.S. or an international setting with diverse individuals, families, and populations to improve healthcare outcomes through illness prevention, health promotion, and health policy.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program
The DNP program is available as a BS-DNP with two tracks or a Post MS-DNP. Both plans are available full-time or part-time.
BS-DNP Plan
The BS-DNP plan enables nurses with an undergraduate degree in nursing to prepare for advanced nursing practice as nurse practitioners and to function as clinical providers, leaders, and integral members of the healthcare team.
The program can be completed within four or five years.
Class instruction provides a solid foundation for practice and clinical leadership roles. Practicums offer supervised clinical experiences designed to build expertise in adult/gerontology primary care or psychiatric/mental health practice. Together, these courses prepare students for national certifications and meet the national standards for the DNP degree.
Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner track
In addition to hybrid courses, the clinical focus prepares the nurse practitioner to provide primary care for patients 12 and older.
Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner track
Combined with hybrid courses, the clinical focus prepares the nurse practitioner to provide direct psychiatric/mental health treatment to individuals, families, and communities.
Post MS-DNP plan
The Post MS-DNP plan is available for nurses who hold a master of science degree in nursing and certification as an advanced practice nurse. The plan prepares advanced practice nurses to meet the requirements of the DNP degree and can be completed in two years.
