Many programs at the university have a limited number of graduate assistantships available on a competitive basis. Available graduate assistantship awards are subject to the work needs of the position and department, your satisfactory performance of duties, your academic record, and availability of funds, and may be subject to change. Interested students must apply for an assistantship.

Location
We’re proud of our heritage- and culture-rich region. Our 710-acre campus is located on the south coast of Massachusetts— only 42 kilometers from Providence, RI, and 97 kilometers from Boston, MA. Within a couple kilometers of campus, you’ll find everything you need—from shopping to variety of dining options. If you like music and theater, New Bedford, just 10 kilometers away, has an impressive reputation as an arts and entertainment destination. Free transportation is available to local food and shopping as well as the local city of New Bedford.

Parking & transportation
Parking on the UMass Dartmouth campus is plentiful, with a nominal annual fee. If you plan to drive to campus, you can purchase a parking permit from Parking Services.

UMass Dartmouth is less than one mile from I-195. There is easy access to Route 24 and Route 6.
The UMass Dartmouth main campus has daily bus service to New Bedford and Boston. There are local taxis and Uber service, and Zipcars are on campus.

Application Requirements
Once you submit an application, our application portal allows you to upload/submit additional requirements:
• Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (regardless of whether a credential was earned).
• Standardized test scores (e.g., GRE, GMAT, etc.), if required by the program to which you are applying.
• Letters of recommendation (LOR). The number of LORs varies by program.
• Statement of purpose (minimum 300 words)
• Résumé.
• International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency. Most applicants do this by submitting official results from the TOEFL, IELTS or Pearson PTE Academic test. Learn more: umassd.edu/graduate/waiver
• Application fee. The university does not waive application fees at the graduate level.
• Unofficial documents are accepted for an application decision. Once a student decides to enroll we will require official documents.

I-20 process
International students who are accepted into a master’s or doctoral program are eligible to be issued an I-20. Certificate programs are not eligible for an I-20.
Once admitted, international students seeking an I-20 will need to provide the following documents:
• an official bank statement dated within the past six (6.0) months
• an affidavit of support
• passport
