The Sound and the Story FACULTY SHOWCASE
Tuesday, January 21 | 7 PM
There are 26 letters in our alphabet. Who knew those 26 sounds could be so powerful when they connect to create language? What about the 12 musical pitches arranged in 88 keys on the piano? There are times when individual words on a page, no matter how skillfully arranged, still need the sounds beyond speech to achieve the truest expression of emotion. This program will explore musical works inspired by stories. Some of the stories are explicit–including references to Walt Whitman and Shakespeare; others are more subtle reflections of poetry and life.
Tuesday, February 4 | 7 PM
Join us for an evening celebrating our wonderful Arts faculty. Arrive early to explore captivating works by our Visual Arts faculty showcased in the lobby. Then immerse yourself in thrilling performances by our talented Music faculty. We are deeply passionate about our craft and invite you to meet and connect with the remarkable artists who live and work in our community.

NAN DICKSON
For Nan Dickson, all of life is a story—really a collection or collusion or collision of stories that swirl her along in an endless sea of fascinating encounters. Her gift is to surf the waves of that narrative without worrying about what will happen next or where everything is “going.” What matters most is to fully embrace the moment and perceive its essence, in order to capture as a memory what has so captivated her.

LIGHT AND SHADE, ARCHITECTURAL LANDSCAPES BY JANE LOVETT WELLS
The bright Texas sun is a part of Jane. Natural light on buildings, water, highways, and weeds is what inspires her to paint. The summer sun cooking asphalt or the low winter sun casting long shadows across an auditorium wall, jolts her into imagining what the scene would look like as a painting. Her subject matter, the parking lots, cafe chairs, highways, and sheds are not what most folks think is pretty, but for Jane it’s not the sentimental prettiness of a place that draws her in, it is the shadows they create that she deems beautiful.
