Incoming freshmen are automatically considered for an Achievement Scholarship based on academic performance and may also apply for our top scholarship packages through a competitive interview process. Senior User Experience Analyst, Cox Automotive My experiences with undergraduate research at UMN Morris put me on the path to graduate school, which led me to completing a master of science degree at the London School of Economics. After a few years in the private sector as an analyst, I went back to school to pursue a PhD and focus exclusively on renewable energy, a passion I gained specifically while working on the Biomass Gasification project with [UMN Morris staff members] Arne Kildegaard and Lowell Rasmussen. Shortly into my PhD program I landed a full-time paid fellowship with the Department of Energy working in International Affairs, specifically related to India and Pakistan, combining my undergraduate experience in India and my graduate training in energy.
I was then hired as a full-time federal employee, developing data programs and conducting analysis to monitor the electric markets for manipulation for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. UMN Morris helped influence my path by encouraging my natural interest in environmental stewardship and refining my focus to energy and economic development. The passion UMN Morris nurtured in me related to these topics led directly to my graduate education choices and my career. Moreover, the analytical skills I learned at UMN Morris gave me the courage to be fully immersed as a data scientist and analyst in these fields, generating real insights and real solutions rather than working on the periphery of these fields. Maria recently moved to Burlington, Vermont, with her fiancĂŠ and took a new job at a local tech company.
