ORIENTATION Dear Future Triton Parents and Families,
We could not be happier that your student has chosen to continue their education at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. All new students are required to complete an Orientation, but YOU are invited and strongly encourage to attend as well! Our Parent & Family Orientation is designed to help families assist their student in developing expectations, academic pathways, and easing the transition to the University. We have lots of information to share with your student, but there is a lot of filling in the blanks that families are expected to do when your student calls home and isn’t sure where to go or what to do. We want to help you support your student, and the best way to do that is to get acquainted with our campus and the expectations placed upon your student.
HOW TO REGISTER You are not automatically registered for parent and family orientation when your student registers. If your student has not yet confirmed their attendance and registered for Orientation, they should start at umsl.edu/ confirm. Once they select an orientation date, they have the option to add a guest or multiple guests. Each guest has a fee of $25 dollars, and their experience will include breakfast and lunch, the opportunity to meet with a faculty member, see real classrooms, and pick up some UMSL swag along the way!
PARENT AND FAMILY ORIENTATION EXPERIENCE Orientation is designed to help both families and students understand resources, opportunities, policies, and offices that will guide you for the next few years. The support and encouragement you provide will be enhanced if you have a clear understanding of the educational and social opportunities here at UMSL and your role during this important time of self-discovery for your student. Many of the activities offered during the Orientation session are open to both families and students. A separate schedule includes several informational sessions for family members only, while the individual academic advising session and small group discussions are for students only. For many, this will be your first experience enrolling a child in college, while others are “seasoned veterans. Regardless, the interaction among families during Orientation continues to be a favorite UMSL memory.
