STEP 1: PREVIEW ORIENTATION PROGRAM To keep the momentum going, you’ll need to login into your Triton Portal. The Triton Portal serves as a one-stop function, outlining your admissions status and admitted next steps. Use this portal to confirm your enrollment, view your personalized checklist items including financial aid, housing applications, orientation, and much more. Once you complete the pre-advising questionnaire and orientation program selection, you will be able to enroll into courses and view additional items to prepare you for your first day of classes. To log into your Triton Portal, visit UMSL.edu/tritonportal. You will use your personal email and password that was used on your UMSL application. If you have any questions or trouble logging into the Triton Portal, please email admissions@umsl.edu or call at 314-5165451.

We cannot wait to help you get started at UMSL! Orientation offers a variety of options to complete on-campus, in-person with your peers, or in a virtual online tutorial format. You must complete Orientation prior to your first day of classes.

Triton Overnight Experience

Students can register for an additional, no-cost opportunity to stay in Oak Residence Hall the night PRIOR to their Orientation session. Please view on our website for select dates for this option at umsl.edu/orientation or on your Triton Portal site. Check-in begins at 4:00ppm CST and includes a night to explore the Recreation and Wellness Center, dinner in Provincial House Dinning Hall, evening activities and sleeping accommodations at Oak Residence Hall. We do not have housing options for family members and ask that they join their students the next day at Orientation check-in.

Off-Campus Cohort Student Orientation

As a student attending a program at one of our off-campus sites (Mineral Area College, Jefferson College, St. Louis Community College, and St. Charles Community College), you are required to attend an orientation at your designated site.

Extended Orientation & Welcome Programming As a student who has registered for an Orientation session, you are automatically registered to attend the Triton Take-Off Welcome Weekend in the fall semester: August 18-21, 2022. Attending Triton TakeOff Weekend is highly recommended as it is your Extended-Orientation program that is four days prior to classes beginning. Additional information is located on pg. 19 of this book. If you are starting in the Spring semester, join us for Triton Spring Welcome on January 15-31, 2022.

STEP 2: SETUP TRITON TECHNOLOGY – SSO, PASSWORD, AND EMAIL

New User Setup

As an UMSL student, there are many programs and accounts you will want to get yourself acquainted with in order to communicate successfully with your teachers, peers, and other offices. The University uses a variety of avenues to communicate with students. Please watch the video overview on how to setup your SSO, password, Microsoft Authenticator, and UMSL email account. This video will also show you how to log into various UMSL sites using the proper UMSL login information. Write it down and keep secure

Remember, University passwords are case-sensitive. If you are having any problems setting up your email or triton technology accounts, contact Technology Support Center or Help Desk at help.umsl.edu or call 314-516-6034.

MyGateway, MyView, and Canvas

MyGateway is our central portal for all UMSL student applications including student email access, Canvas course management, MyView enrollment and payment services, MyDegree academic progress, MyConnect advising services, MyDrive Google services, and much more.

MyView is a self-service system which enables students to access campus finances, academic records, personal information, enrollment, grades, and class schedule. Canvas is the system used to access all your coursework. From there you will participate in class discussion boards, view your class syllabus, submit assignments, and access the Writing Lab and NetTutors. During Orientation, students will learn to navigate through these systems. You can also visit umsl.edu/go/tritontech to view tutorial videos for additional assistance.


STEP 3: LOG INTO TRITON PORTAL TO COMPLETE PRE-ADVISING QUESTIONNAIRE AND REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION

To begin, log in at umsl.edu/tritonportal (You will use your email and password that was used on your UMSL application).

Insided the Triton Portal, you will see a list of items including triton technology, student success team, financial aid, housing application, and advising and orientation section. Each section expands with additional details and contact information.

Under the Advising and Orientation section, you will complete a pre-advising questionnaire and select an Orientation Event. You will see the Orientation events that are available to you based on your admit type. Inperson Orientation events, will have the option to add the Triton Overnight Experience on selected dates.

Guests Registration. We encourage you to add guests to join you for the Parent and Family Orientation. There will be no additional charge, but you are limited to two (2) guests. If guests cannot attend, there is a monthly newsletter and virtual webinars that are available to watch online at umsl.edu/go/parents.

Once you select update, your reservation will be finalized and you will receive an automatic email confirmation. Your pdf confirmation will include the Orientation schedule, what to bring, campus map, and guest information.

STEP 4: REGISTER YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS, PARENTS, AND GUESTS TO JOIN YOU AT ORIENTATION Orientation is designed to help both families and students understand resources, opportunities, policies, and offices that will guide you for the next few years. The support and encouragement you provide will be enhanced if you have a clear understanding of the educational and social opportunities here at UMSL and your role during this important time of self-discovery for your student. Many of the activities offered during the Orientation session are open to both families and students. A separate schedule includes several informational sessions for family members only, while the individual academic advising session and small group discussions are for students only. For many, this will be your first experience enrolling a child in college, while others are “seasoned” veterans. Regardless, the interaction among families during Orientation continues to be a favorite UMSL memory. If you are unable to attend, sign up for our parent/ family newsletter to receive monthly email newsletters for updates, opportunities, and ways to continue supporting your student. STEP 5: SUBMIT YOUR REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Submit your official final transcripts showing your last semester grades as well as any diploma, degree, or certificate that you earned. There is often a delay between the end of the semester when grades are listed and when degrees are posted on a transcript. In addition, please send Advanced Placement (AP) scores, International Baccalaureate (IB) exam results, or any other documents that will be important to planning your first semester at UMSL

STEP 7: FULFILL AND RETURN THE IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS Required Vaccinations and Health Information

In order to adequately protect the health, safety, and welfare of UMSL students, there are a number of requirements with regards to vaccinations and screenings.

University Health Services

Tuberculosis risk assessment screening for all new students:

Missouri legislation requires that all newly enrolled students must complete a TB risk assessment. Visit the UMSL Health Services website (health.umsl.edu) to submit completed forms early in the first semester of enrollment.

MMR and meningitis vaccination requirements for all students living in campus housing:

All students living in campus housing are to be immunized against measles, mumps, and rubella, with two doses of the MMR vaccine. For students who have been vaccinated, the first dose must have been given at age 12 months or later. The second dose must have been given at least one month after the first one. Students also have the option of providing documentation showing titer (blood test) results proving immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. A waiver is possible on the basis of medical or religious reasons. Missouri legislation requires students living in campus housing to either show documentation of conjugate meningococcal vaccine received at age 16 or after or apply for a waiver to this requirement on the basis of a medical or religious reason. All required health documentation and waivers must be submitted to Student Health Services and can be completed on the UMSL Health and Counseling Services patient portal (health.umsl.edu). STEP 8: SUBMIT REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR FINANCIAL AID

Check your Admitted Student Portal (under the Self Service tab, My Financial Aid Status) to ensure that you have completed all necessary documentation for financial aid processing. Read all of the available tabs and return frequently as information is updated on an ongoing basis.

During Orientation you will review a Money Matters session. This session, the Office of Student Financial Aid will highlight the responsibilities and general payment information for your tuition and fees, discuss the process on how to pay and set up an Additional Authorized Access, and navigate through the MyView portal to preview a summary of the financial charges. The charges will represent the cost of the hours in which you have enrolled, room and board, and additional services (e.g., financial aid, scholarships, and any additional fees).

The Money Matters session will provide valuable information and access to staff members from the Office of Student Financial Services. The goal is to help provide students and their families a greater understanding of the financial landscape as they navigate their college career.

STEP 10: COMPLETE PLACEMENT EXAMS BEFORE YOUR ORIENTATION Online assessments to be taken before your Orientation session.

1. Math Placement - In order to enroll in entry-level college Mathematics courses, a student must demonstrate appropriate background mathematical knowledge and skills. UMSL accepts multiple ways of demonstrating this knowledge including ACT math subscores for new freshmen and online math placement test scores for all students. To view Mathematics Course Pre-requisite Information and to access the online math placement test please visit umsl.edu/~campustesting/ 2. Language Placement - If you plan to enroll in a language course during your first semester and feel that you may be able to test out of one or more introductory level courses please contact Jim Karslake at jkarslake@umsl.edu or 314-516-6240 to sign up for language placement testing BEFORE your Orientation. 3. Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE) - Students will receive an electronic link to this online survey beginning in May.

Not Anymore Program

Not Anymore is an online, interpersonal violence prevention program that provides critical information about: consent, bystander intervention, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and much more. To succssfully complete the program, you will need to earn at least 80% on the post-test, which you may retake until you achieve this score. The training will take about one hour. All UMSL students are required to complete this program before the first day of classes. STEP 11: MAKE ACADEMIC ADVISING APPOINTMENT WITH ADVISOR All students new to UMSL are required to meet with an academic advisor to register for courses and discuss their academic plan – all new first time college students attending Orientation will meet with their advisor on their Orientation date, but depending on their major may be asked to meet prior to that date. Transfer students attending Orientation or completing the Online Student Orientation are encouraged to make advising appointments as soon as possible upon completion of the Pre-Advising Questionnaire and selection of Orientation event located in their Triton Portal account. Please take a look at the 4 year plan for your major in the Bulletin (bulletin.umsl.edu/planofstudy) as well the Schedule of Classes on MyView (myview.umsl.edu). Honors College

Students enrolled in the Pierre Laclede Honors College should meet with an Honors College advisor BEFORE attending Orientation. Your Honors College advisor will help you select the appropriate Honors College courses. On your Orientation date, you will meet with an additional advisor from your major to complete your registration. UMSL Athlete

All new UMSL athletes should meet with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics, Lindsay Pickering, BEFORE making an advising appointment. Lindsay will help you select the appropriate courses that will align with your athletic schedule and practices. Military/Veterans

All military-connected students should contact the UMSL Veterans Center BEFORE attending orientation or meeting with your advisor. The UMSL Veterans Center is responsible for certifying your VA benefits and CANNOT do so unless you complete the necessary steps. In addition, understanding your benefits is important to make sure you do not encounter any financial problems as you start your classes here at UMSL. The UMSL Veterans Center will not only help you get started, but also inform you of the VA policies that govern how you can use your benefits. This includes what the VA considers a full-time student, problems with adding/dropping courses mid-semester, and how your classes are certified through the VA. During your Orientation session, you must bring a government-issued photo ID to receive your TritionCard (i.e. a driver’s license, state I.D., passport, etc.).

STEP 14: CONNECT WITH THE DIVISION OF STUDENT ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES (SASS) Having an academic support system is critical for academic achievement, degree completion, and lifelong success. Make sure you visit with departments within the Division Student Academic Support Services to learn about the various comprehensive support services available for all students. STEP 17: PREPARE FOR ORIENTATION (SCHEDULE OVERVIEW, PARKING) On-campus Orientation

Orientation is mandatory for all first time college students and transfer students. Orientation will be located in the Millennium Student Center with check-in and breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. and opening remarks promptly at 8:30 a.m. Students are required to stay for the entire full day program that will conclude at 4:00 p.m. If you are interested in taking a tour of Oak Residence Hall, Mansion Hill Apartments, or University Meadows, the offices will be open and available for questions at the conclusion of the program.

Transfer Online Orientation

Make sure you log into your Triton Portal account at UMSL.edu/tritonportal to complete the pre-advising questionnaire and selection of the Online Orientation to receive the login directions. The Online Orientation can be accessed in your e-confirmation email with directions on how to complete. Once you complete the Online Orientation, you can sign up for Triton Tracks: A Personalized Campus Tour to pick up your Triton Planner, t-shirt, and other welcome items. You can always email orientation@umsl.edu to help address your questions, or next steps to prepare for classes.

Triton Tracks: A Personalized Campus Tours

Upon completion of your Online Orientation, explore our campus through a guided tour in-person, as campus leaders navigate and you begin to leave your triton tracks around campus! Visit with financial aid, see your classroom locations, view housing facilities, and various campus departments that will become the footprint of your success. Triton Take-Off Welcome Weekend

August 18-21, 2022 - Triton Take-Off Weekend includes a series of events designed to act as an extension of the orientation process, and to welcome all incoming new and transfer students the days leading up to their first week of classes. The events will allow incoming new and transfer students to meet fellow peers and learn even more about life at UMSL and how to have a successful transition. Tritons LEAD

Tritons LEAD (Learn, Engage, Advance, Discover) is a two-day summer leadership and networking experience at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). During Tritons LEAD, participants are assigned to small groups with their Small Group Facilitators. The participants attend and reflect at interactive sessions to learn about themselves, engage with others, advance themselves, and discover the UMSL campus. This is a free program, but commitment for the full two day experience is strongly encouraged. Be on the lookout for emails to sign-up for this experience.

We encourage all students to apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can submit the FAFSA online at fafsa.ed.gov and the priority deadline is February 1. We also recommend checking and accepting/declining your award packages through your MyView.UMSL.edu web portal. Click on Self Service>Financial Aid.
