In an effort to provide families with specific information about the university and campus resources available, a specific tailored parent program will be provided. STEP 1: PREVIEW ORIENTATION PROGRAM AND DATES Students who have confirmed their enrollment, will be able to register for their specific Orientation date and pay their confirmation fee. The confirmation fee is a non-refundable $50 for new students that must be paid in advance of the their Orientation. • Parent and Family Member Guest Orientation Fee, $25 – Includes Orientation materials, and meals Please check the appropriate guest options on the online orientation registration site. *We recommend that parents and guests register at least 2-days prior to thier Orientation session to allow for final preparation and a quicker check-in process.
DATES OF ORIENTATION SESSIONS
Each of the Orientation sessions will accommodate approximately 300 new students and family members. Below is a list of all our orientation dates. When you registered online, you should have received an email confirmation with your date, guest numbers, map to campus, and parking pass. If you need to change your date, please re-login and complete this at least 2-days prior to your scheduled Orientation date.

***Triton Overnight Experience night before NSO. Students can stay in Oak Hall the night prior to a NSO session for an additional $25 cost. This will include a night to explore (Recreation and Wellness Center, Pool Party at Oak Hall, and sleep overnight in a Residence Hall room). We do not have housing option for parents/family members and ask that they join their students the next day at New Student Orientation Check-in.
OFF-CAMPUS COHORT STUDENT ORIENTATION
As a student attending a program at one of our off-campus sites (Mineral Area College, Jefferson College, and St. Charles Community College), you are required to attend an orientation at your designated site.

EXTENDED ORIENTATION: TRITON TAKE-OFF WEEKND (FALL) & TRITON SPRING LAUNCH
As a student who has registered for an Orientation session, you are automatically registered to attend in the fall semester the Triton Take-Off Weekend: August 17-19, 2018. Attending Triton Take-Off Weekend is highly recommended as it is your Extended-Orientation program that is three days prior to classes beginning. Additional information is located on pg. 12 of this book. If you are coming in the Spring semester, we will see you for Triton Spring Launch for January 13-23, 2018.
STEP 2: SETUP TRITON TECHNOLOGY – SSO, PASSWORD, AND EMAIL In your admission letter, you received information about activating your SSO (single sign-on) and your password. You will use your SSO to access your student accounts for logging into MyView, Canvas, and other UMSL systems.

Canvas is the system used to access all your coursework. From there you will participate in classes, submit assignments, and access the Writing Lab and NetTutors.
Remember, University passwords are case-sensitive. If you are having any problems looking up your SSO or resetting your password contact the Technology Support Center at: (314) 516-6034.
TRITON EMAIL ACCOUNT SETUP
As part of your admission to UMSL, you are given an email account for your use. All official University communication is directed through the UMSL email account. It is very important that you check this account regularly for important information regarding registration, University events and emergency notification. You can access your account through the Canvas portal or directly at the UMSL website at www.umsl.edu. However, before you can access your account for the first time, you will need to change your password. If you have not set up your email account, please contact the Help Desk at: umsl.edu/technology/tsc/ or call 314-516-6034.
MyView is a self-service system which enables students to access campus finances, academic records, personal information, enrollment, grades and class schedule.
Other systems will allow you to access various resources and services on campus, including: • Check your email • Participate in LiveText classes • View the campus calendar • Link to DARS (Degree Audit Reporting System) • Link to MyConnect (for advising) During Orientation, students will learn to navigate through these two systems presented by orientation leaders.
STEP 3: CONFIRM ENROLLMENT, REGISTER FOR ORIENTATION AND PAY CONFIRMATION FEE 1

Once you’re there, click on the red button that says Confirm, Register for Orientation and Pay Confirmation Fee, a new window will appear to login with your SSO and password.

Once you are logged in successfully, you will see a master tasklist of items (similar to what is listed in this booklet). Click on the first two tabs to confirm your intent to enroll at UMSL, and then to select orientation and pay for your $50 onetime confirmation fee.

Once you select orientation and confirmation fee, follow the 5 modules: Contact Information, Pre-questionnaire, Dates, Guests, and Payment.

In the dates module, you will have the option to select to add the Triton Overnight Experience onto your New Student Orientation experience.

After you hit submit, you’ll be asked to pay your confirmation fee. This fee will confirm your spot at UMSL and your orientation program. Note: The confirmation fee is nonrefundable, so please be certain of your plans to attend UMSL before paying the fee. You can come back and add any family or guests at a later time if needed.

Once we process your reservation, we’ll send you a confirmation email. Make sure to check your UMSL email account for this message. This message will include a PDF confirmation that will include the schedule overview for your Orientation session, directions to campus, maps, and your temporary parking pass for your Orientation session.

STEP 4: REGISTER YOUR PARENT, FAMILY, OR GUESTS TO JOIN YOU AT ORIENTATION Orientation is designed to help both families and students understand resources, opportunities, policies, and offices that will guide you for the next few years. The support and encouragement you provide will be enhanced if you have a clear understanding of the educational and social opportunities here at UMSL and your role during this important time of self-discovery for your student.

LEARN about the educational opportunities available to your student. ENGAGE with current faculty and academic support services available to your student.
Many of the activities offered during the Orientation session are open to both families and students. A separate schedule includes several informational sessions for family members only, while the individual academic advising session and small group discussions are for students only. For many, this will be your first experience enrolling a child in college, while others are “seasoned” veterans. Regardless, the interaction among families during Orientation continues to be a favorite UMSL memory.

Submit your final high school transcript prior to your entering semester. Be sure to send Advanced Placement (AP) scores, International Baccalaureate (IB) exam results, or official college transcripts (along with course descriptions) if applicable.

STEP 7: FULFILL AND RETURN THE IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

Missouri state law requires that all students residing in on-campus housing provide proof of meningitis vaccination:
Check your Admitted Student Portal (under the Self Service tab, My Financial Aid Status) to ensure that you have completed all necessary documentation for financial aid processing. Read all of the available tabs and return frequently as information is updated on an ongoing basis.
• You must show proof of a meningitis shot at age 16 years or older. • If you have not received a meningitis vaccine after you 16th birthday, you will need to get a booster shot, which is available through Health Services. Waivers are available under very strict circumstances. Contact Health Services for more information. TB screening is required if you fall in one of the following high risk categories: • From or lived for two months or longer in Asia, Africa, Central or South America, or Eastern Europe. • You are a health care worker or volunteer/employee at a nursing home, prison or other residential institution. • You have had recent contact with an active TB case. STEP 9: REVIEW FINANCIAL CHARGES During your Orientation session, you will finalize your course registration and class schedule, and attend a Money Matters session. During this session, the Cashier’s Office will highlight the responsibilities and general payment information for your tuition and fees, discuss the process on how to pay and set up an Additional Authorized Access, and navigate through the MyView portal to preview a summary of the financial charges. The charges will represent the cost of the hours in which you have enrolled, room, and board, and additional services (e.g., financial aid, scholarships, and any additional fees). The Money Matters session will provide valuable information and access to staff members from Financial Aid and the Cashier’s Office. The goal is to help provide students and their families a greater understanding of the financial landscape as they navigate their college career.

STEP 10: COMPLETE PLACEMENT EXAMS BEFORE YOUR ORIENTATION ONLINE ASSESSMENTS TO BE TAKEN BEFORE YOUR ORIENTATION SESSION.
1. Math Placement - All UMSL students must demonstrate appropriate math proficiency before registering for math classes. UMSL offers a convenient online math placement test to assess your math proficiency. To access the Math Test, please visit umsl.edu/~campustesting/ 2. Language Placement - If you plan to take a language during your first semester and feel that may be able to test out of any language courses, please contact Jim Karslake at jkarslake@umsl.edu or 314-516-6240 to sign up for language placement testing BEFORE attending your Orientation date. 3. Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE); Will receive electronic link beginning in May.
NOT ANYMORE PROGRAM
Not Anymore is an online, interpersonal violence prevention program that provides critical information about: consent, bystander intervention, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and much more. To succssfully complete the program, you will need to earn at least 80% on the post-test, which you may retake until you achieve this score. The training will take about one hour. All UMSL students are required to complete this program before the first day of classes. Take the Training: • Log-on to Not Anymore through the UMSL portal at studentsuccess.org/SP/umsl • You also will receive follow-up contacts from Student Success™ highlighting key program information. STEP 11: MAKE ACADEMIC ADVISING APPOINTMENT WITH ADVISOR All students new to UMSL will need to meet with an academic advisor to register for courses. To schedule an appointment with an advisor please reference your specific college or school listed to the right. You are encouraged to take a look at the Schedule of Classes on MyView (myview.umsl.edu) as well as the 4 year plan for your major in the Bulletin (bulletin.umsl.edu) prior to your appointment. Your advisors look forward to working with you to create your academic plan at UMSL!

Students enrolled in the Pierre Laclede Honors College should meet with an Honors College advisor BEFORE attending Orientation. TritonCard photographs will be taken at Orientation, or you can submit your own photo to use on your TritonCard prior to Orientation by visiting umsl.edu/tritoncard and click on Photo Upload. Pay close attention to the photo requirements! During your Orientation session, you must bring a government-issued photo ID to receive your TritionCard (i.e. a driver’s license, state I.D., passport, etc.).

STEP 16: PREPARE FOR ORIENTATION (SCHEDULE OVERVIEW, PARKING) NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION (NSO)
NSO is a full day on campus program REQUIRED for all newly admitted first year students. Orientation is mandatory for all first time college students and transfer students. It is required to stay for the full day program that will conclude at 5:00 pm. The main program will begin at 8:30 a.m. If you are interested in taking a tour of Oak Residence Hall or University Meadows, there are tours promptly at 8:00 a.m. at the housing locations. All transfer students who have accumulated more than 24 college credit hours must complete one of the Orientation options: TSO or Online Orientation. *Academic Advising is not scheduled during your TSO. Due to the varied advising needs and availability, transfer students need to contact your academic unit to schedule a separate appointment. At Orientation, we will acquaint you with the online registration process that you will use during your career at UMSL. Students are encouraged to be advised prior to Orientation.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION (ISO)
ISO is a three-day program for newly admitted international students with 24 or fewer U.S. college credit hours. Visa-holding international students are required to attend ISO for the spring semester on January 9-12, 2018 or for the fall semester on August 13-15, 2018. . On the first day of Orientation, bring your passport, I-20 or DS-2019, St. Louis address, and emergency contact information for yourself and any dependents. ISO will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed at UMSL as an international student. You will meet other new international students and current students who will help you transition smoothly to life in St. Louis. TRANSFER ONLINE ORIENTATION
In an effort to assist you in learning the UMSL resources and information there is an online tutorial. The Online Orientation can be accessed in your e-confirmation email with directions on how to complete. Once you complete the Online Orientation, you can turn in the completion page in the Office of New Student Programs in 366 Millennium Student Center to obtain a Triton Manual, lanyard, Weeks of Welcome booklet and a free t-shirt. The New Student Programs Office will also be informed of your completion of the Online Orientation to recall the Orientation hold off your account.

August 17-19, 2018 - Triton Take-Off Weekend includes a series of events designed to act as an extension of the new student orientation process, and to welcome all incoming new and transfer students the days leading up to their first week of classes. Weeks of Welcome is another way to connect incoming students with the University throughout the first six weeks. Our office partners with other offices and organizations on campus to provide out-of-classroom programs and developmental opportunities to meet the transitional needs of first year students, transfer, and commuter students. More than 100 events are held just for students in the fall and spring semesters including movies, picnics, departmental programs, lots of free food and traditions.

New Student Checklist
We encourage all students to apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can submit the FAFSA online at fafsa.ed.gov and the priority deadline is February 1. We also recommend checking and accepting/declining your award packages through your MyView.UMSL.edu web portal. Click on Self Service>Financial Aid. Before you attend Orientation, please review the New Student Checklist to confirm all the items listed up to “after Orientation� are complete. This will assist in a smoother transition process.
Orientation
Orientation is a required program that allows you to meet with other new students, learn about University resources, meet with an advisor to register and finalize your class schedule, and much more. Get ready to make some new friends, and learn how to navigate the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

August 20-October 2, 2018. Make sure to pick up the WOW Booklet publication on Move-In Day or at the Help-A-Triton tables all around campus during the first two days of classes. The WOW booklet will include six weeks of programming and activities occurring on campus.
