PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The University of New Brunswick is not just a university — it’s a community. Experience genuine Maritime friendliness on our small, beautiful campuses. Be taught in classes where the professors know who you are and care about your progress. Our students are greeted with an abundance of opportunity — hands-on research, co-op and work study programs, studying abroad, nation-leading athletics, countless clubs and societies. Our size is not a limitation, it’s liberating. Our focus on being the best we can be means we are home to world-leading research institutes and some of the best professors in the country. It means we can adopt a philosophy of education that is more than just about being in class, but about engaging in experiences that forge your future and that help you discover your true potential. In 2014, we were named the top university in the country for entrepreneurship by Startup Canada. We have a tremendous startup culture here that has bred some phenomenal successes. Not all of our students will want to run their own companies but we just happen to believe that students will be better prepared for the future if they learn how to create opportunities for themselves and others, as entrepreneurs do. At UNB, we care about your future. I hope to see you here soon.

Christy Stevenson ”Choosing to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree was one the best decisions I have ever made. From the first day of academic orientation, the vibrant multidisciplinary faculty set the stage for four years of engaging lectures, enriching labs and exciting extra-curricular opportunities. I chose Kinesiology not as a path to a particular career, but as a way to pursue my passion for sport and fitness. These four years culminated in a new body of knowledge with enough depth to impress the faculty at my medical school.”
Adam Spurrell ”The Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies professors are consistently raising the bar. They don’t just want to see you excel, they are there cheering you on! Their encouragement and knack for inside and outside the classroom learning inspired confidence, creativity and excitement for using my knowledge and skills in life beyond campus such as in my current position as Deputy Venue Manager at the 2015 Pan Am Games. They are a huge part of my success today, both professionally and personally!”

The Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Program is designed to help first-year students process and understand the material covered in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. PAL leaders are upper-year Science students who attend lectures, meet with course instructors and provide small collaborative PAL learning sessions. One of the many benefits of attending PAL is the acquisition of independent thinking skills. Science 1001 is a professional skills seminar course designed to enhance your skills and self-directed learning as you transition into the first-year of university.
The Faculty of Science offers a variety of experiential learning experiences with field courses that engage students in their active learning in a teambased environment. Two examples are the Marine Biology Field Course that is a comprehensive introduction to the ecology and biology of coastal marine organisms in the Bay of Fundy region of New Brunswick; and our Earth Sciences Field Schools that utilize numerous course techniques in various natural settings. Our focus is to equip our students with relevant knowledge and skills to become tomorrow’s industry leaders.

With relatively small class sizes, there’s a lot of interaction between students and professors. Because of this, UNB Science students are fortunate to have more opportunities for undergraduate research than at most other Canadian academic institutions.”
Jenny Thistle ”The Faculty of Science has become like an extended family. From your first day of classes, the professors make it a priority to know your name.
