WELCOME TO CAROLINA!

Jada Weathers jadamy@live.unc.edu

Greetings! My name is Jada Weathers and I am the president of the UNC Chapel Hill chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. On behalf of the NPHC, we welcome you to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I encourage you to get involved with Greek life here. Greeks are 21% of the student body, which may not seem that big, but it is! We are a community of leaders, scholars, and social beings. Joining Greek life my first-year, I have had the opportunity to grow as a woman and as a student, academically, professionally and socially. I have made connections with people that I would have never thought to make connections with if I had not become Greek. I have been able to travel and represent my Greek community and UNC community at conferences in several different states. Lastly, we as a Greek Community know how to come together for times of service, social responsibility and awareness. While there are many benefits of being Greek generally, there are many more benefits of joining the National Pan-Hellenic Council. We the National Pan-Hellenic council represent 8 of the Divine-9 Historically Black Greek-Lettered Organizations. We all have specific national programs that are centered around our values and what we stand for, like Education, Mental Health Awareness, Domestic Abuse/Relationship Violence, AIDS Awareness, Health, etc. We also have unique histories within our organizations being that most were founded at the Black Mecca of Education, Howard University. Lastly, we have cultural traditions that makes us stand out from the rest: stepping, strolling, calls, and campus presentations. Our organizations are historically black, but not exclusively black. We welcome students from all backgrounds, ethnicities and identities.

Again, we want to welcome you to UNC Chapel Hill and hope you are interested in learning more about Greek Life!

JADA WEATHERS President, National Pan-Hellenic Council

Anis El Marzouki anis@live.unc.edu

Hello everyone! I’m Anis El Marzouki and I’m delighted to serve as the Vice President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. The National Pan-Hellenic Council is comprised of 9 historically black fraternities and sororities, 8 of which are present here on UNC’s campus. Historically, black fraternities and sororities are known for their social activism, humanitarianism and dedication to academics. Getting involved in Greek life is a wonderful opportunity to grow as an individual, expand your network, express your commitment to social change and truly make a difference in today’s society. If I had any advice for students considering Greek life this is what I would tell them: You should join a Greek organization if you have a vision of a better world and feel that a sorority/fraternity could serve as a great platform to make those changes happen. Join if you value the work that fraternities/sororities do both on campus and in the community. Join because you feel you can challenge the culture of Greek life and hold those around you to a higher standard. Join if you understand the importance of scholarship, service, sisterhood and brotherhood. Join if you’re looking to experience personal growth and professional development. Always remember to do what’s best for you and join the organization that fits you, not the organization you have to mold yourself to fit in.

Welcome to the Tar Heel family and I wish you all of the success in the world! If you have any questions about Greek Life don’t hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have!

ANIS EL MARZOUKI Vice President, National Pan-Hellenic Council
