NEWS BRIEFS UNC will celebrate Homecoming this week. A variety of events for students will take place throughout the week. The homecoming celebration will be highlighted by the annual Spirit Week competition, which includes a BBQ and obstacle course, UPC’s Comedy Club with special guest Ronnie Jordan, Bear Sync, Cans to Candelaria and many other events. A student reflection of the UNC community

UNC business major founded a nonprofit to raise awareness of sex trafficking. Megan Lundstrom started “Free Our Girls,” a Greeley-based nonprofit organization, last year. Lundstrom’s organization aided in bringing awareness of sex trafficking by co-sponsoring last week’s Empathy Week.

In 2015, 21 transgender people have been murdered in the U.S. Nine have committed suicide because of bullying and harassment. In 2013, two-thirds of LGBT homicide victims were trans-women of color.

A survey will be distributed this week to 1,500 randomly selected households and UNC student email addresses in Greeley. The survey will cover a variety of topics relating to the community’s perceptions, City government services and the Greeley Unexpected image campaign. Results from the survey will be used by City Council and City staff to help decide how best to use public resources to provide services, address priorities and promote the community. The results will be reported to the Council and residents after the first of the year. UNC’s Study Abroad and Exchange Globetrotter Photo Contest returns to see and share photos from student’s study abroad trips. Submissions and votes will be accepted until Thursday. Two UNC programs have been invited to partner on international conferences next April in Bangkok, Thailand. The College of Educational and Behavioral Sciences and the school of communication, in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, partnered with The International Institute of Knowledge Management to sponsor the International Conference on Education and the World Conference on Media and Mass Communications.
