The Summer Teaching Fellowship (STF) is a unique, highly competitive teacher preparation program. STF is designed to introduce college juniors of color who are passionate about student success to teaching in Uncommon's classrooms.
Uncommon Schools recognizes the importance of building a talented staff of teachers who reflect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our scholars. STF is part of Uncommon's commitment to attracting, hiring, and retaining teachers from underrepresented backgrounds in order to enrich our scholars' learning experiences. What does the fellowship look like? • Fellows work hard – Fellows teach for 7 weeks in an Uncommon school. Work days are Monday-Friday, from 7:30 – 4:00 PM. • Fellows grow personally and professionally – 3-4 evenings a week, fellows have professional development sessions. Fellows are supported by a mentor teacher and the STF program staff. • Fellows are paid – Fellows receive a $3,500 stipend, unlimited access to public transportation, and free housing. • Fellows have fun – Uncommon provides a range of interesting social and cultural events to build cohort community. “STF was the first time I had been around this many people who were as passionate as I was about urban education reform. It was stimulating, invigorating, and reassuring to know that there were other people in the world who cared so much about student success.” Tashina Siddiqui, 2010 Fellow; 2011 Kings Collegiate Charter School Teacher
