Jimmy Bass Athletic Director A veteran collegiate administrator with close ties to eastern North Carolina, Jimmy Bass was introduced as UNCW’s athletic director on Oct. 19, 2010. In Bass’ first year, the Seahawks captured Colonial Athletic Association championships in men’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s golf and men’s golf and featured five coaches that were honored as CAA Coach-of-the-Year. On March 21, 2011, the Seahawks advanced to the postseason in women’s basketball for the first time by entertaining Eastern Michigan in a WNIT game at Trask Coliseum. Before being named director, Bass spent three years in external operations at East Carolina after holding positions at Mississippi State, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, UNCW and Davidson College. He served as UNCW’s first full-time athletics fundraiser in 1986, bolstering the school’s athletic scholarship efforts and advancing membership in the Seahawk Club from 250 to 1,100 during his three-year stay. The energetic Bass graduated from N.C. State with a degree in speech communications and earned a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University. He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and National Association of Athletic Development Directors. Bass is married to the former Sarah Ruark, and the couple has one son, Joseph Corey.
