To ensure your application process runs smoothly we have put together this simple, step-by-step guide to help you.
HOW TO APPLY 1 Choose your university and course
March – November 2017 Do as much research as possible – search for courses on UCAS, send off for prospectuses, check our website, look at course entry requirements and attend Higher Education Fairs and Open Days. For a list of our upcoming Open Days, see page 5 or visit: unibeds.info/ug_opendays
2 Apply online through UCAS September 2017 onwards Done your research? Ready to fill in your application form? Then go to: www.ucas.com and choose up to five universities. For help with filling out your application form visit: unibeds.info/application_tips
3 Receive decisions January 2018 onwards You may receive Unconditional offers if you have already met the criteria for your chosen course, or Conditional offers (on the condition that you meet the criteria required) from the universities you have applied to. The earlier you send in your applications, the more likely it is that you will receive your decision earlier.
4 Sort out your finances March 2018 onwards There is lots of financial support available so don’t delay making your application at: www.gov.uk/ student-finance. For information on the generous financial support we offer at Bedfordshire, visit: unibeds.info/fees_finance
5 Choose your final two universities
April – June 2018 Now it’s time to make a Firm and Insurance choice – your firm choice should be the institution where you want to go, and your insurance choice is the second choice in case you don’t meet the requirements of your firm choice.
6 Apply for accommodation April – August 2018 Once you have decided which university you want to go to, you can apply for a place in student halls or private housing. At Bedfordshire we guarantee a place in our student accommodation for all first year students – more information is available at: unibeds.info/accommodation_apply or see page 27.
7 Exam results July – August 2018 Time to receive your exam results and to see if your place is confirmed by your firm choice (if you’ve met all the conditions of this choice), or insurance choice, via UCAS Track online. If you haven’t met all the conditions of your firm or insurance choice, don’t worry there are other options available through clearing. Call Admissions for advice on: +44 (0)300 3300 073
8 Arriving at university September 2018 Once you’ve secured your place, you can begin planning for the exciting, new lifechanging experience of starting university. You’ll need to consider finance and accommodation if you haven’t done so already, plus travel, books, bedding and most importantly, your induction and registration dates. Universities should send you all this information as soon as your place is confirmed.
Check out the Handy Hints section on our website for some useful tips. Visit: unibeds.info/seehandy_hints
