All students in England are expected to pay tuition fees to study at University, however you can apply for a student loan from the Government to support you in paying these fees. The fees for the 2020/2021 academic year are as follows: • Full-time, undergraduate tuition fee: £9,250 • Part-time, undergraduate tuition fee: £6,250

You can apply for a tuition fee loan and/or a maintenance loan from the Government to help pay for, and support you with your studies. You will not have to pay back your loans until you have left university, and you are earning over a certain amount, currently ÂŁ25,000 per annum. Tuition fee loan If you are a UK or EU student, Student Finance England are likely to provide you with a loan to cover your tuition fees. EU students will need to apply using a paper-based application form, available from the Student Finance EU team. Maintenance loan If you are a UK student you can apply for the student maintenance loan online. Here at the University of Bedfordshire we try to make financing your studies as simple and affordable as possible. That’s why we offer a number of scholarships and bursaries to support you throughout your time with us. University Bursary All UK and EU students studying on a full-time, undergraduate degree will receive our bursary, worth £1,500 over three years; students will receive £500 per year. Merit Scholarship If you achieve 112 UCAS points or more you could be eligible for our Merit Scholarship, worth £2,400 over three years; students will receive £800 per year. (UK and EU full-time undergraduate students). Foundation Year Bursary If you’re undertaking a Foundation Year as part of an integrated four-year degree you could be eligible for our Foundation Year Bursary, worth £2,000 spread over four years; students will receive £500 per year. Level Five Bursary The Level 5 bursary is for all new undergraduate students enrolling on year 2 of a full-time undergraduate degree. It is worth £500 per academic year (up to a maximum of 2 years).

Care Leavers Bursary If you are supported by your local authority care leaving service and are under the age of 25 you could be eligible for the Care Leavers Bursary, worth £5,700 over three years. While there are no restrictions on the nationality of applicants, you must be normally resident in the UK and enrolled on a full-time degree. Sports Scholarships If you have the desire to compete, coach or officiate at the highest level in your sport of interest, or you have already achieved a high standard in your favourite sport, then you could be eligible for one of our Sports Scholarships. Worth up to £1,950, some also include additional benefits such as membership to our on campus Aspire gyms. Our Sports Scholarships include: • Platinum Performance • Platinum Coach/Official • Gold Performance • Gold Coach/Official • Talented Performer So, whether you play, coach or officiate sport at county or international standard, these scholarships will recognise your talent and support your development.

Access to Learning Fund If you experience unexpected financial difficulty whilst at university you may be able to receive finanical aid through the Access to Learning Fund. The fund can be used for course and living costs that are not met by other grants, for emergency payments to cover financial crises, or to help you if you are thinking of giving up your course because of financial worries. For many of you university will be the first time that you’re responsible for handling household bills and things like the weekly food shop. Budgeting your money will mean you’ll still have enough money to cover both essential outgoings such as bills, as well as having money left over to socialise with your friends. Here are some of our budgeting tips: • Work out a weekly/monthly budget and try to stick to it • Monitor your outgoings • Don’t spend your loan straight away - each instalment should last you for one term • Buy food shopping in bulk • Car share with your friends • Use your NUS card to get great discounts • Get a part-time or weekend job to earn additional income - our Careers and Employability team can help you find suitable vacancies
