How do you support students during their time at Bedfordshire? By providing students with support in their studies and their overall wellbeing. I work with students across all campuses, to supply the best opportunities that offer a great student experience. I also encourage democracy, and liaise with the University to ensure that the Student voice is heard.
What are your words of wisdom for new, first year students? Take full advantage of all that this University has to offer, especially with regards to volunteering and support. Peer-assisted learning (PAL) is excellent; as a mature, part-time student I encountered PAL in my first year as a participant. My weekly sessions helped with SPSS (statistical analysis programme) and all aspects of my assessments; this was invaluable to my progress. In my second year I became a PAL Leader which opened up avenues of opportunities for me, learning new skills and reinforcing my own learning. It improved my confidence and I also found a new dynamic group of friends that I would never have met otherwise.
How do you support students during their first week at Bedfordshire? My role is to make sure all international students feel welcomed and have all the information they need when they arrive. I am also a point of contact during your study at Bedfordshire. I run various student experience programmes as part of the University’s More than a Degree initiatives.
What are your words of wisdom for new, first year students? Try not to let your nerves get the best of you. Enjoy every experience and take on every opportunity – you'll only be a fresher once. What is the “must do” experience during your first term? Make new friends and take part in the societal and sporting events available.
Where is your favourite place to go out? The Metro Bar and Kitchen; you can listen to music at lunchtime or just have a coffee with friends.
What is your favourite memory from working with students at the University? My favourite memories come from taking students on Go Global and Go Europe trips and helping and supporting the experience of a life time. Students have nicknamed me Uncle Lee.
