The GDip Theology (validated by The Open University) is designed for those who already have a degree in another subject, and some basic theological knowledge (either through a ministry training course or ministry experience). Whether you are just starting out, or are an established church leader who has simply missed out on a formal theological education, the GDip could well be your ideal solution. The course covers all foundational aspects of biblical studies, theology and church history while offering various options (including biblical languages), to meet different ministry training needs. Union’s core values inform every module, and the development of skills for ministry and personal spiritual formation are both key priorities.

This programme is validated by The Open University. It is also accredited by ECTE.

What advice would you give to others considering theological training? Do it! If you have the time (and it does take a fair time commitment even for a part-time course) it’s 1000% worth it. It’s hard work but when I remember I’m doing this to increase my love and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, to be able to serve him better, then it’s all worthwhile!

“The course is bringing me to a greater love for our Lord and a desire to serve him with my whole life!” 19

“Many of our students are bi-vocational, so the LC provides an opportunity for students to remain in the workplace where they have a strong testimony for the Gospel, while also allowing them to grow in their knowledge of God and service to the bride of Christ.

“Since 2013, nearly 35 people have been trained and sent from Union’s Liverpool Learning Community. The next 7 years — how many more? I’m hoping that more and more churches see the need for formal training for the ongoing growth of staff members. I’m hoping that more and more lay people recognise the value of being trained, godly men and women who lead and teach in various contexts.

“The beauty of the Learning Community model is that we are able to take the content of each lesson and apply this to our respective ministry situations, within the context of a peer-to-peer environment.

If you are a prospective student and are currently on the fence about joining a Learning Community, I want you to know that the formation our students have received has enabled them to be faithful to God’s calling on their lives. It has been such a blessing to see the students of our LC grow in their knowledge of God and their love for Him and for His Church.”

UNION PROSPECTUS

I deeply long that more church pastors will identify, apprentice, part-fund and send godly men and women into formal training.”

One of the many reasons why we love our partnership with Union is that their courses have been cultivated to aim beyond simply the acquisition of new skills and techniques for students, to stirring up a heartfelt devotion to Christ and His church as the driving passion for all ministry. One year on from launching our Learning Communities and working closely with the staff at Union, I am utterly convinced that this aforementioned passion governs all Union do.”
