That Wonderful, Ever-Present Buzz There’s always something going on at your Union Station. The
“buzz” never seems to go silent, and to us - it’s beautiful music! We’ve also been told the Station is one of the best “people watching” places in town. What a great compliment to the diversity of our guests, businesses, civic, entertainment and everyday activities we have the privilege of hosting. Along those lines and as our summer season heads toward a record-breaking finish, it’s a great time—as Kansas City’s front porch— to share some of what we’ve experienced recently . . . • Science City continued to celebrate international recognition by opening yet another new hands-on exhibit space called, Force & Motion. With a focus on FUN and LEARNING, four new experimentation stations bring to life simple scientific principles that profoundly impact our everyday life. It’s all NEW and totally cool! • Science Pioneers fused with Science City to create a true powerhouse of STEM resources and learning in Kansas City. Two great brands—each with deep local history—now bring a continuum of science opportunities to kids, families, students, teachers and professionals. This is a game changer for science-minded learners and STEM employers alike. (See Fusion of Science Pioneers and Science City article.) • Western Expansion Phase One came to an important close with the opening our new South Festival Plaza, rededication of the Henry Bloch Fountain as well as the historic Union Station Lamp Post Clock, and opening of the new Carriage Pavilion Bridge. (Read more about it in the Western Expansion Article) • BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life opened to critical acclaim and has welcomed tens of thousands of guests from our six state region and beyond. (See the BODY WORLDS article.)

Union Station On Track • Summer/ Fall 2016
• Maker Faire Kansas City made history once again by attracting a record number of enthusiastic visitors to this sixth annual edition at Union Station. (See Maker Faire article.) • Weddings, Business Meetings and Celebrations of every sort filled our historic halls and reminded thousands of guests why Union Station is affectionately called, “Kansas City’s Home”. While diverse in theme, each of these fulfilled on a key element of our mission. Science Education. Celebration of Community. Preservation of History. The other common thread? The people. Whether here to expand their minds, get connected, relax and refresh or simply experience the vibrancy of our Union Station treasure, people of every background and interest come through our historic brass doors and not only step into history but help create new memories. If Union Station wasn’t part of your summer plans, be sure to get us on your calendar soon. Don’t miss the Extreme Screen Theatre, which has become THE venue for first-run movies in KC, and the Escape Room —acclaimed as the “best of the best.” This is YOUR Union Station. With you and friends like you, we’ll keep “the buzz” going and growing for many years to come!

BODY WORLDS is Fascinating Crowds of Visitors DON’T MISS THIS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO PEER INSIDE YOURSELF S
een by 41 million people worldwide, BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life has drawn ten of thousands of visitors from across the region to Kansas City’s Union Station for an inspiring look inside their human form. People from across the spectrum of age and health have commented how this acclaimed exhibition is “beautifully presented,” “remarkable” and even “lifechanging.” Dr. Barth Wright, Associate Professor of Anatomy at Kansas City University of Medicine and Bio-Sciences recently stated, “You will miss out if you miss this!” Make plans today to take advantage of this rare opportunity to truly understand the “marvelous machine” that carries us through life, from conception thru older age. The Cycle of Life is part of the internationally recognized BODY WORLDS teaching collection developed by physician and pioneering anatomist, Dr. Gunther von Hagens. It showcases the wonders of human development. It demonstrates the complexity of our physical self and resilience and vulnerability of our bodies in distress, disease and good health.
Dr. Wright speaks with FOX 4 KC’s Matt Stewart. See his complete interview at UnionStation.org/CycleofLife/Press.
“The opportunity to view the details of the human anatomy in action is both unique and enlightening,” Dr. Wright said. “BODY WORLDS helps us personally encounter and reflect on our own bodies and how we must pay attention to and care for them.”

MARVEL at the HUMAN BODY What Visitors Are Saying
“Union Station has done it again. I try to see everything that comes here. I always leave smarter about the subject covered. This time is no exception…really top notch.” Jim; Olathe, KS “You’re never too old to start doing good things for your body. This exhibit proves it and I’m so glad we came.” Lori; Overland Park, KS “Made me really think about my diet and how I treat my body. This visit will stick with me for a long time.” Jay; Kansas City, MO “I brought my son to see what the human body looks like and what they do. This is a great experience for children. My son loved it!” Jen; Prairie Village, KS “BODY WORLDS is one of the most wonderful things I’ve ever seen. It’s amazing to see how different diseases affect our body. I can relate what I’m seeing to people I know. The exhibition is presented so peacefully.” Ehel; Raytown, MO “I love the exhibit… I wish more kids could see it. I think it would teach them to make healthier life choices and increase longevity.” Mary; Olathe, KS
While in Kansas City for the exhibition’s installation, Dr. Angelina Whalley, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Plastination in Heidelberg, Germany and Creative Director for BODY WORLDS, spoke with the Kansas City Star regarding the manner in which the specimens are presented. “As scientific pioneers, I can tell you it was always most important to us that the entire exhibition be done with utmost respect and dignity. If you watch visitors in the exhibition, you will note a most sincere respect for what they are seeing. They are absolutely in awe and have reverence. For many of them, they say it is a spiritual experience.” (Continued on page 8) UnionStation.org

Already for the Fall semester, area school groups have lined up for their chance to experience BODY WORLDS. Additionally, classrooms of medical students, groups of fitness instructors and gatherings of health-interested people from every corner of our community have toured the exhibition and, in turn, encouraged others to attend. It’s not too late to make your plans. Running through October 23rd, BODY WORLDS will certainly rank in Union Station’s top ten attended and most important exhibitions.
According
to the Corporation for National & Community Service, Kansas City ranks an impressive 8th nationally in volunteering and civic engagement*. Non-profit organizations—like Union Station and Science City—find success largely thanks to the tremendous value our 250+ active volunteers bring to the table. Earlier this Spring—April 24th to be exact—this generous group was honored at our annual Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Dinner, held in Science City. With a “Western Expansion” theme, attendees sported construction hard hats and celebrated with construction-themed favors. “I am humbled beyond words by our volunteers,” Stacie Moody, Volunteer Coordinator of Union Station, said. “They are living history and builders of our next chapters in the Union Station story. We have some of the best volunteers in KC, and we absolutely love them!” In 2015, Union Station volunteers gave 26,750 total service hours and awards were given for key milestones. 41 Bronze Awards for 100 249 total hours, 22 Silver Awards for 250 - 499 hours, 10 Gold Awards for 500+ hours and 3 National Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards for 4,000+ total hours.

“Our volunteers represent the very best of who we are and what we do to ensure Union Station and Science City remain the vital place of innovation, celebration and education for our entire community,” Nale Uhl, Director of Finance and Customer Service of Union Station, said. To our current family of volunteers—we salute YOU. Nationally ranked and recognized as a top volunteer community, Kansas City does, indeed, have a very big volunteer heart and we’re proud to be so close to that heartbeat! Visitors can actually see how their personal choices and the process of aging impact them internally. Whether it’s comparing the color and size of a nonsmoker’s lungs versus that of a smoker or observing the widened grooves in the brain of an Alzheimer’s patient versus the brain free of disease, the differences can be both eye opening and life changing. “Once again Union Station has been able to bring an exhibition to Kansas City and the entire region that is world class in its presentation and educational value,” George Guastello, president and CEO of Union Station, said. “It allows us to expand again upon the STEM education focus of our internationally-awarded Science Center and create an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the health of our community as a whole.”

Western Expansion Receives Rave Reviews Making More Union Station History with Phase One Complete July 16th marked the completion to Phase One of our massive
Union Station Western Expansion Project. And with Phase Two underway, the excitement for what’s been done and what’s still to come continues to build. Here’s a quick summary of Phase One projects and improvements: Carriage Pavilion Bridge and Pedestrian Walkway Where Do I Park? We’ve now answered that question… Anticipation turned to elation Saturday, July 16, 2016 as our new Carriage Pavilion Bridge opened, linking the historic front of Union Station directly to the convenience of the adjacent West Yards Parking Garage. “As the largest single element of our massive $7.5 million Western Expansion Project, the new bridge and walkway answers a long-standing call for more direct access to plentiful parking and – in turn – access back to the Station from the multi-level garage,” Bob Regnier, Union Station Board Chairman, said. “When it comes to guest convenience, the new bridge is a game-changer.” Station visitors and tenants alike now have the option to drive onto Union Station grounds from Pershing Road and take a straight path under the historic Carriage Pavilion to covered parking. The new bridge offers one-way traffic directly into the third level of the four-level, EV

Exiting traffic from the garage remains via the ground level followed by a short drive back up to Pershing Road, where all major highways are only minutes away. “In addition to the new parking convenience, the pedestrian walkway allows for a spectacular vista for all who love the downtown Kansas City skyline as much as we do,” George Guastello, president and CEO of Union Station, said.
“You’ve never had such a magnificent vista view of our beautiful home town. No doubt, we’ll see many selfies taken from this new and unique overlook. With record attendance at all of our attractions so far this year, it’s a great time to fall in love all over again with the most beautiful – and now most convenient – historic monument in KC!”
Note: In addition to designated spots in the South Lot, postal customers now have the added convenience of 30 minutes of free West Yards Garage parking, with direct access via the pedestrian walkway to the west entrance to the Station, nearest the Post Office and P.O. Box areas.

South Festival Plaza and South Parking Improvements “Stunning,” “Picture-Perfect” and “Fitting of the Grand Monument.” All phrases we’ve heard describing the magnificent new front approach to Union Station. Now complete within our Phase One efforts, our South Parking Lot has been totally reconfigured and resurfaced to improve traffic flow, add more short-term parking spaces, create a safe and beautiful raised pedestrian walkway to the front of the Station, and provide new and easy access to our West Yards Parking Garage. Additionally, a significant new South Festival Event Plaza offers a dramatic location for all sorts of outdoor events, festivals and special moments - including weddings. Tying our historic Station to the newly renovated Block Fountain and historic Liberty Memorial lawn, this new space features beautiful planting areas and a 3,000 sqf patio area boasting the newly restored Union Station Lamp Post Clock. “Union Station’s front porch – as the area is often called – could not be more beautiful,” Jerry Baber, executive vice president and COO of Union Station, said. “Much thought and planning went into this parking and festival area. The Station itself is so iconic, we had to match that grandness with both function and appearance. By all accounts, we accomplished our goals and then some. This additional festival, event and garden space has already been put to use and guests seem to really enjoy it. Our ability to be where Kansas City gathers and celebrates just grew again!” Jerry Baber, executive vice president and COO of Union Station
Engineering Fast Facts: From Gerilyn C. Ornce, Architect, Burns & McDonnell Design Team
• The etched “Union Station” letters on the South Festival Plaza were produced by staining the concrete with stenciled letters and ‘etching’ the borders of the letters with a diamond blade wheel. The ‘plaque look’ was an intentional part of the design, enhanced by sealing the area and applying a clear ‘grit’ compound over the stained surface. (Seth Taylor, Concrete Artisan of Concrete Designs, featured right pulling up letter stencils.) • The new garden areas actually grow on top of an underground parking garage, making this a ‘green’ roof. A mix of top soil and sand was applied over a barrier mat which was laid on top of 18” of tapered and shaped Styrofoam panels. The foam sits atop the parking garage and OK Street below. • The concrete on the South Festival Plaza was placed with two distinct colors, one tan and the other traditional grey. • Over 4,000 interlocking pavers, laid in a ‘herring bone’ pattern were used to create the new outdoor event space, which also features the restored Lamp Post Clock.
MORE EXCITEMENT TO COME... Phase Two Northwest Yards – A sprawling new area for community-based events. Trina, her family and Milbank were also extremely supportive of our 100th Anniversary celebration and the establishment of an endowment for Union Station. Trina’s voice in our Board Meetings helped us stay in touch with our customers. “Business Membership Just Makes Sense” Newest Union Station Business Member Reflects On Decision After sensing a strong and growing demand, Union Station—in
2015—rolled out a Business Membership Program that captured immediate interest. In just a few short months from launch, our first class of Business Members were onboard and enjoying the tremendous benefits. One recent Member—Bark Productions—is a great example of the diversity of Member companies and reasons they’ve joined. Founded in 1999 by former ad agency producers Mark Schotte and Brad Slaughter, Bark Productions is a Kansas City company that produces national and regional television commercials, as well as web content. The company also formed 19 Below in 2007, a post-production boutique to meet demand for a full-service client solution. Today, this combined Crossroads creative powerhouse produces content for international brands including PetSmart, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Sprint and American Century. In early 2015, Bark reached out to Union Station while scouting locations for a national commercial. “Selecting the beauty of Union Station as our backdrop was easy. Then, while producing the commercial in the Station’s historic North Waiting Room, the value of becoming a Business Member became a nobrainer,” Brad Slaughter, Partner of Bark Productions, said. “The history. The beauty. The importance of Union Station to our community surrounded our cast and crew. It’s hard to explain the emotion one feels stepping into Grand Hall and being transported back 100 years. It’s why we come back again and again with family and friends. And as Members, we enjoy complimentary tickets to traveling exhibits, Science City and the Planetarium. We decide how we use the tickets. And, we’re in great company as a Business Member. Have you seen the list of area companies who’ve already joined? “Individual and Family Memberships have been essential to Union Station for many years,” Bob Regnier, Union Station Board Chairman, said. “In fact, in 2015 those memberships set new records for the Station. So, it made perfect sense to establish a new Business Membership program. Once in place, it was immediately validated by the business community. It’s just good business to support and enjoy the benefits of the iconic Union Station brand.” Check out the Membership levels on our website listed below and start enjoying your benefits right away. Benefits include complimentary vouchers to our popular attractions and world-class touring exhibitions. Also included are special recognitions, tickets to VIP receptions, facility rentals, employee discounts and so much more. “We are proud to support an iconic destination like Union Station,” Slaughter said. “As neighbors right here in the Crossroads District, we’re only a short walk to take full advantage of our benefits and feel a part of the vibrancy of Kansas City’s most beloved monument. I can’t imagine any business that wouldn’t find immediate benefit from joining us as Union Station Members.” For more information on Business Memberships, contact Katlyn Baker at kbaker@unionstation.org.

New 1,200 Sq. Ft. Force & Motion Exhibit Arrives at Science City to the Delight of All! It was 1666 when a young Isaac Newton sat beneath an apple tree
in his mother’s garden, pondering the physics behind the orbit of the planets. In that moment of serenity, a rogue apple fell from the tree and struck him on the head. It was in that instant the theory of gravity was conceived. This moment of clarity is affectionately referred to as the “Apple Incident.” Minus falling fruit, four new interactive exhibits—FLEXHIBITS— hope to cause many more “apple incidents” as kids and adults alike experiment with seemingly simple concepts that are in fact the basis for extraordinary scientific principles. Force & Motion—our appropriately named new 1,200 sqft STEM area at Science City—debuted in June, adding new life to what was once home to “Astronaut Training” which dated back to Science City’s opening in 1999. The latest revitalization represents our commitment to ongoing investment in the youth of our community. FLEXHIBITS is a cool, modular, interchangeable design of FLEXible platforms that will allow for easy, new “plug and play” updates to keep the area vibrant and fresh for both first-time and returning scientific explorers. Visitors have the opportunity to partake in the following four interactive and inventive stations to learn about the principles of Force & Motion: Air Rockets – Choose a rocket, place it on the launch pad, pressurize it with air and let it blast into space, demonstrating Newton’s three laws of motion. The more fuel (pressure) you give it, the higher it travels. Sail Cars – All of the sailing, none of the water! Did you know the best angle to sail into the wind is at 45°? Experiment with different
sail sizes, shapes, and tacking angles to discover which combinations sail the fastest, or try to get a sail car to move “against the wind.” Circuit Bench – Build your own circuit to power up a collection of devices. Then, experiment with levels of self-produced power and how dividing it between devices effects the performance of each. Lights. Fans. Bells. And more. Circuits are essential to science and this exhibit makes it simple . . . an “apple incident.” Air Cars – Much like a rocket, but this time on wheels! Experiment with aerodynamics and force as you power up your air car and race a friend to the finish line. No driver’s license needed; just a need for speed and fun! “We have been planning Force & Motion for many months and are thrilled for its recent opening,” Jeff Rosenblatt, Director of Science City Exhibits, said. “FLEXHIBITS creates meaningful connections for visitors and promotes learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This further fulfills our goal to be a worldclass science and education resource to our community. And based on early reactions to these hands-on additions, we’ve scored huge once again. Many more ‘apple incident’ moments ahead!” Force & Motion comes to Science City directly from a leading worldwide resource known for creating proven and fun educational value for science centers—FLEXHIBIT. Their expertise creates current, fresh, and engaging experiences. Force & Motion will create a meaningful connection for all visitors and assist local teachers in their classrooms with an accompanying educator guide. So, get out from under that apple tree and make your way to the latest fun at Kansas City’s Science Center, Science City at Union Station. . . FREE to our Members! UnionStation.org

If I Could Talk With The Animals . . .
Fusion of Science Pioneers and Science City
D
octor Dolittle famously sang, “If I could walk with the animals, talk with the animals, grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals, and they could talk to me!” One verse from the 1967 movie classic, starring Rex Harrison, perfectly captures the fascination many of us have with creatures big and small, fury and scaly, wet, wild, tame and absolutely terrific. Well, count our enthusiastic guests to Science City’s Nature Center as part of the Dolittle fan club! “We are home to over 70 species of exotic and wonderful critters and creatures in our Nature Center,” Jeff Rosenblatt, Director of Science City Exhibits at Union Station, said. “That’s a lot of wideeyed, open-mouthed moments from kids and adults alike. It’s so fun to share our menagerie with guests and help them understand the beauty and mystery of the wild world around us.” Some of our fan favorites include: Beaker—a sulfur crested cockatoo named after a Muppet Babies character. Beaker loves to show off his unique behaviors. He’s an attention hound and easily charms guests with his BIG personality. Henry, our Congo African Grey parrot is also a favorite. Henry has the ability to mimic voices and sounds, often giving a wolf whistle to anyone walking into the Nature Center or a cat meow to really confuse you. Like things that slither? Ruby—a 7-foot long, “gentle giant” red tail boa constrictor loves wrapping around and moving along her tree pedestal and taking photographs with guests. And, Voldemort (aka “Larry II”)—a legless Eastern European Glass lizard with a sassy attitude—enjoys demonstrating his barrel roles, one of his delightful differences from a snake. “Our critters and Educators alike interact with guests,” Christy Nitsche, Director of Advancement and Community Engagement at Union Station, said. “Together, our focus is making sure an exceptional visitor experience is felt throughout the Nature Center and entire Science City. Judging by feedback received, we’re regularly exceeding expectations and helping nurture science-minded interests. And that’s a very valuable outcome for our entire community.” Moving into its new Science City location in 2012, the Nature Center is especially proud to have earned the highest rating every year from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). “My co-worker Jim and I run a pretty tight ship to keep the Nature Center in top condition,” Becky Lindsey, Five YearScience City Educator, said. “Many of our animals are considered ‘exotics’ and therefore require care that is not typical of, well—typical pets. We research each new animal that comes into the Center so we can provide the correct diet, lighting, humidity and heat—to mimic their natural habitat. For instance, because the majority of our animals are reptiles, they require UVB lighting to help metabolize calcium. They are also cold-blooded, so we provide each of them with a specific daily heat source, as well

as a general and constant heat source on individual environments. We take weekly readings of UVB output on each lamp to ensure that every animal is receiving the necessary amount. And, that’s just the beginning of our constant care for the animals.” “The key is consistency, someone here every day who knows what was done the day before,” Jim Pyland, Twelve Year Science City Educator, said. “You just can’t put animals in a cage and expect them to do well. The animals are active. They have fresh food and water daily, and get to enjoy the outdoors when weather allows. They also participate in frequent five minute, almost individualized, interactive ‘Educator Chats’. These sessions really fascinate our guests. The Nature Center is simply a must-see destination when visiting Science City.” So, on your next visit to Science City, make a point to visit our top-rated Nature Center. A “grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals” might be just what the Doctor ordered! For more on Science City, visit sciencecity.com. Thank you to the J.E. Fehsenfeld Family Foundation for their $10,000 contribution towards the re-opening of our Nature Center in 2013.

n July 1, 2016, Science Pioneers officially merged into Union Station’s Science City, blending complementary science-based events, activities and programs into a unique powerhouse with a mission to create a STEM-strong community. “What a great day this is for our entire region,” George Guastello, president and CEO of Union Station, said. “The opportunity to bring the deep experience and outreach of Science Pioneers to our table was perfectly timed. We simply can’t imagine a better union between two brands with common purpose and community-affirmed outcomes. Science City received international recognition in 2015 for delivering world-class STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) experiences to our guests. While we celebrated that tremendous achievement for our community, we also knew we could and would do more. Kansas City’s science center took another big step forward and further onto the world stage with this important merger.” Science Pioneers has deep roots as a leader in Kansas City’s STEM education landscape. Founded 60 years ago, the not-for-profit organization hosts the Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering Fair, one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most successful showcases for student scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. It also provides resources and training in STEM topics for educators, as well as science exploration programs for kids.
“This is what innovation looks like,” LeAnn Smith, most recent executive director of Science Pioneers, said. “By bringing together complementary but not overlapping programs, we create a stronger organization capable of delivering even greater support for STEM learning in Kansas City, all in a vibrant, internationally-recognized and energyfilled science center. We literally will continue pioneering science for future generations.” With the merger of the two non-profit organizations, LeAnn Smith has become Director of STEM Programming and Outreach at Science

City. Additionally, Science Pioneers Board Director—Tom Sack, Ph.D. president and CEO of MRIGlobal—has joined the Union Station Board. “Union Station’s mission and proven dedication to science education aligns beautifully with the long-standing commitment and talents of Science Pioneers,” Sack said. “This merger strengthens our STEM resources for students, parents and teachers. It’s a model of efficiency and scale to deliver quality STEM programs and services. And, importantly, it carries on the vision of Dr. Charles Kimball who in 1956 founded Science Pioneers while serving as president of Midwest Research Institute (predecessor of MRIGlobal).” “In addition to carrying on the rich 65-year tradition of the Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering Fair, our combined efforts will continue to align with regional education priorities and partner with leading regional businesses, community organizations and educational institutions,” Bob Regnier, Union Station Board Chairman, said. “We know Kansas City has a large and growing demand for a STEMeducated workforce. In fact, STEM occupations are growing at twice the rate of non-STEM occupations, so it’s important for us to help young people in Kansas City access engaging science content, to ultimately fuel our collective economy. And we make it fun and exciting.” Read the history of Science Pioneers on our website at UnionStation.org.

Kansas City Actors Theatre Makes New Home at Union Station W
ith great pleasure, Union Station welcomes Kansas City Actors Theatre (KCAT) to their new home within the Station’s vibrant “Theatre District.” This represents yet another win for Kansas City’s theatre community and for Union Station guests who’ve come to expect a variety of top-quality entertainment options within our historic halls. “Kansas City Actors Theatre (KCAT) and Union Station were destined for partnership,” Brian Williams, KCAT’s Director of Development and Marketing, said. “KCAT’s first organizational meeting more than a dozen years ago took place on Union Station’s H&R Block City Stage, and the vast majority of KCAT’s 11 season productions have taken place in that very same performance space.” KCAT focuses on presenting both classic and contemporary classic plays to the delight of a loyal and growing regional audience. “Our audiences tell us Union Station is their favorite location among the many venues in which we’ve staged our productions,” Bev Elving, KCAT Board president, said. “It’s not just the grandeur of Union Station, it’s also the rich history all around us. Plus, it’s so accessible from every part of town. Easy parking. Beautiful theatre venue. It all works together.” “Our all-KC-based acting company has already fallen in love with Union Station and its magnificent history and vibrancy,” Jan Rogge, KCAT Artistic Chair, said. “It’s truly an artistic marriage of theater and location.” And, coming to City Stage is KCAT’s entire Season 12, including audience favorites “I’m Not Rappaport” and “A Streetcar Named Desire” in August and September 2016 respectively. Then, comedies light and dark – “My Old Lady” and “The Realistic Joneses” – will debut in the first half of 2017. “It’s terrific to welcome home a great organization that’s been a long-time friend to Union Station,” George Guastello, president and CEO of Union Station, said. “The deepened partnership between Union Station and KCAT is a real win for all of Kansas City. Bringing even more culture to these creative crossroads of our community is exciting. We hope to see many more theatre fans develop with this homecoming.” KCAT is offering a Season 12 ticket discount. Use the code “ONTRACK” for $5 off each purchase by calling Central Ticket Office at 816-235-6222. To learn more about KCAT, visit kcactors.org.

Making Your Next Event Memorable & Magical Starts With the Perfect Location A
sk a professional event planner about the first and most important considerations when putting together a successful event, and he or she will likely refer to “The Three W’s.” Where. When. Who. The “Where” is a reflection of style and substance. Style can be casual, contemporary, classic, elegant, exotic, whimsical and even totally unexpected. Substance directly ties to the purpose or goal of the event. Raise funds. Celebrate a wedding. Honor an accomplishment. Share business information. Network. Or just kick back and entertain your guests. The reasons are endless and the seasons for events are now year-round. Just ask the Union Station professionals privileged to help plan and produce some of the most magical events in Kansas City . . . “Many times we get a call from someone who’s searched dozens of locations and simply hasn’t yet been inspired,” Stacey Price, Facility Rental and Events Manager of Union Station, said. “Looking for a venue both stunning and unique, Union Station hits their radar. In most cases, they’ve been to the Station for any number of reasons in the past. They already love the majesty of our historic monument, but have little notion of the suite of options and services we provide. It’s usually a quick conversation that turns their questions into absolute confidence and their notions of what’s possible into unlimited potential. We genuinely have fun working to help produce the most memorable events in town!” “Bringing together tradition and technology is also unexpected for some of our event customers,” Price said. “We have nearly one dozen event spaces within our Station complex. And each of them can be outfitted with the perfect complement of technology to accomplish specific event goals. Live music? No problem. Remote Conferencing? Done. Flying dancers to elegance beyond compare... it’s here. The list
