Project two master plan

Pohara Development Stratgey Project 3 Project 3 follows on from a concpetual understanding of the Landscape at Pohara. The focus area is around the stream and the proposed boardwalk, with the interaction of farming production on the landscape. It incorporates the project brief- hydrology, vegetation and economy, encompassed by Haoura- land wellbeing. • Hatched pattern boardwalk gives a unique and leading path to the Puna. • Walking trails lead to discovery and self direction with the land, creating ones own image of the landscape. • Revegtation of native plants help to counteract the productive land surround the site.

Smaller walking trails that weave around the landscape and connect the boardwalk to the marae, are a path to discovery. The iwi are able to educate their childern on the land and how that tells the narrative of Pohara. The childern can gain understanding of foods for avian species such as the Tui or Keruru, ground covers with healing properties, such as Kawakawa or the life cycle of larger species such as Northern Rata. This can be passed on down generations as both the people and land expand.

Hatched decking mimics the weaving of Phormium tenax species that surround it.the design provides a textural feel to the experience complemented by the rustling of the vines that wrap around the handrailing. Locally sourced Macrocapra is hardy material, when countersunk to the joyce, provides a stable veiwing and walking platform over the order 1 stream.

Lastly, the Goal to mitigate the effects of pollutants at the source, beofre entering the water ways, was dealt with by having a process of filtration down the steep terrains. The equillirbum between understory plants and canopy plants, exchanging nitrogeon and fertailiser toxins, creates a resilient system. Suggested species in the plant gudielines, give an indication of timing of tree planting and the best success for revegation. This is a response to human production outlined in project one.
