Colusa County is located in the heart of the Sacramento Valley and is located 70 miles north of Sacramento. The County is comprised of historical buildings and rich-fertile agricultural lands. It incorporates the cities of Colusa and Williams and also includes the towns of Arbuckle, Maxwell, Stonyford, Princeton, College City and Grimes. Its population is less than 22,000 and covers 2,000 square miles. Colusa County is home to a vast array of agricultural crops and its natural resources makes it an area one can visit anytime of the year. “The County is just beautiful! We have wildflowers in the spring and incredible waterfowl during the winter months. There is also the beauty of the vast fields of rice, almonds, walnuts and tomatoes,” said
Denise Carter, Colusa County Supervisor. Guests who visit the county may make their travel more enjoyable by lodging at various hotels and motels located throughout the area or they can camp at the Colusa Area Sacramento State Park located in Colusa. Guests visiting Colusa County can also enjoy birdwatching at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge or fishing and boating in the Sacramento River in and around Colusa. The county is also home to Colusa Casino Resort which offers lodging, a buffet, and a fine-dining restaurant. For more information on Colusa County, guests can call the business and visitor’s center at (530) 458-5525.
Agriculture
Rich-fertile soils are responsible for the vast array of agricultural crops that are grown in Colusa County. For more than 75 years the County's leading agricultural crop has been rice. The crop is planted between late-May and early-June and is harvested during the fall season. In 2010, the crop netted Colusa County growers more than $270 million. Besides rice fields, almond, walnut and prune orchards are also common in Colusa County. The county is also home to several vine crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and watermelons. Other crops that are grown in Colusa County are hay, wheat, sunflower and cotton. Cattle is also raised in the county and netted ranchers more than $11 million in 2010.

The Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is one of six refuges in the Sacramento Refuge Complex located in the Sacramento Valley of north-central California. The refuge is located off Highway 20 about 4 miles west of the city of Colusa. The refuge is comprised primarily of managed wetland impoundments with some grassland and riparian habitat. The Colusa Refuge typically supports wintering populations of more than 200,000 ducks and 50,000 geese. The Colusa National Wildlife Refuge website states that the wetland impoundments are intensively managed to provide optimal habitat for wintering waterfowl, as well as habitat for resident wildlife and spring/summer migrants. The grassland habitat supports several populations of endangered and sensitive species of plants. The refuge is home to the endangered palmate-bracted bird’s-beak and the threatened giant garter snake. Each year more than 35,000 visitors come to the 4,507-acre refuge to view wildlife.
