it maybe you can add it to the summer list. I know that I will be. Yes….this review is more about the ambiance than the food itself but the meals here are good and the prices reflect the price range of a hotel venue. I would describe them as moderate and reflective of the ambiance. You can’t go wrong with a

meal here. This venue has improved so much and is now another strong option in the growing list of choices in our fair city. I may not make it there at the busiest times but I can tell you what on some of these lazy summer afternoons you may find me hiding in the outdoor patio with a burger and a cold taste to the Springfield scene. Maybe I will see you there! 4 Forks!

Father’s Day: An opportunity to give encouragement away By Samuel Knox Unite News Managing Editor

Springfield, MO— There are times for correction & warning when men aren’t doing their jobs, but not right now. There are a lot of dads out there that take their God-ordained roles and responsibilities seriously and strive hard to be good stewards of our families. It’s good to be reminded of the weight and importance of our role, but we also need to be encouraged in Continued on page 2

it! It is a long, challenging responsibility to be a dad, but the benefits are more than worth it to remain faithful. Think about it… God allows you the honor of sharing one of His special names–Father. This means that you will impact the way your kids see God as their heavenly Father. That is a big deal! What a great role! What a great title, position, and privilege… Dad–Family Shepherd! Think of a dad in your life today. Maybe it’s the father of your children, your husband, or your son who is now a dad himself. Maybe it’s your own dad or a brother raising a family just as you are. Think of encouraging him this Father’s Day in a specific way. Here are some suggestions to encourage a dad in your world

Sponsored by: Deliverance Temple Ministries Springfield Community Center Springfield Public Schools, Office of Diversity & Inclusion

using the word LIFE as a guide. Dr. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, assigned the following acronym. L – Labor Think of all the things this dad does. Perhaps he works in the yard, tends a garden, works diligently at his job, keeps the car running or fixes what is broken. All dads are different but all put labor of one description or another into the lives of their family. Polish up the value of a specific labor and tell him what it means to the family. The daily grind can be much easier to take with some affirmation of the effort. I – Influence Remind this dad that he is a great influence on his family. Find a positive way in which you see his influence impacting those around him and tell him. My Dad’s job took him out of town a lot when we were little.

My brother recently told Dad that he has been influenced in his own marriage and fathering by Dad’s loyalty to our family. The fact that we never doubted if Dad would come home had a tremendous influence that bore long term effects. Be specific and genuine in affirming just how significant and important his influence is. In the daily grind it is easy to forget we are leaving lasting impressions. Gentle affirming reminders help to build positive influence. F – Finances No one has a family budget that works all the time. Finances can be a challenge in any home. Let dad see that his contribution is valued. Many men work long and hard with little thanks. Remember that genuine encouragement given away often returns in the most unexpected manner. It’s not so much about money as it is about pulling together in the same direction. Maybe thank him for the way you can work together making the mortgage payment so the family can have a home, or eating hotdogs when you’d both prefer steak. Be creative and find something to say thank you

about in this department. E- Expertise Every man has knowledge in some particular area. If you have forgotten what this dad excels in, listen and watch. Maybe he is great at math homework with the kids. When you watch and listen you may be surprised at all you forgot he knew. Let him know you notice his knowledge in a particular area. Take the time to consciously encourage the fathers in your life. The daily grind can take its toll on a soul, but a little sincere encouragement can be like sunshine and water to soften and replenish. You just may be surprised at the reaction you get, not just from him, but in your own heart as well! This Father’s Day look for an opportunity to give encouragement away.

I had my popcorn and was all set to welcome the summer movies in with a lot of anticipation and excitement but I left wanting a better movie and I didn’t want an ulterior motive and political message to be the underlying theme. The black superheroes almost worked but again the character development needs a lot of work. The Black Panther was kind of cool though so good job there. Mobile app provides opportunity to strengthen ties between police officers and citizens Nationwide — The teenage trio from Georgia, Ima, Asha and Caleb Christian relaunched their FiveO police rating app using the $22,000 first place award from the 2015 Hiil Innovating Justice Challenge at The Hague, Netherlands. The FiveO [NxtGen] app helps to build and strengthen the bond between citizens and police officers by offering citizens an opportunity to commend officers or to file reports on positive or negative police interactions. This new version of FiveO will allow police departments to notify citi-

zens of police community events by submitting an entry to the app which will then notify all users in that police department’s area, additionally, users; with one button push, will be able to notify family members of their gps location. Citizens will also continue to be able to rate and review police interactions and to maintain a history of all of their interaction details within the system. “We believe that FiveO will make a significant difference if we are able to convince community members to share their experiences within our app, so we

will do everything possible with the resources we have at our disposal to make this happen”, said 17-year old team member Asha Christian. “We are convinced that a good portion of the power to change the quality of policing in our communities is in our own hands.” The FiveO team members reiterate their commitment to make consistent, the quality of police services across all communities in the US and they encourage police departments to use the app to share police sponsored community events. Restaurant Review: The University Plaza Hotel By Lyle Foster Unite Contributing Writer

Sometimes we rediscover places that we have forgotten about or perhaps have not just been on our path as places that we frequent. And sometimes places change and reinvent themselves and I would offer that this is the case with the University Plaza Hotel. I am sure that many of you have been there for banquets and special events and usually those have the predictable kind of meals often featuring the gospel bird.

But over the past few years the hotel has been renovated and added a few more perks that have enhanced the overall atmosphere and created an environment that is pleasant and almost hip. Recently I have found the hotel to be a great get away for afternoon of work and enjoying a late lunch. The hotel has a restaurant straight back in the lobby which on a sun filled day has a lot of attractive and very comfortable seating areas. Of course, this is not good for the

hotel but the afternoons that I have visited it has been just about empty which gave me the luxury of stretching out with my laptop and work and making calls, grabbing lunch and getting the load off of my back. The restaurant has everything that most café/restaurants seek to provide now depending on the time of the day that you come. Many enjoy the very ample salad bar at lunch and usually there is a good soup available. During my get away time the

restaurant is actually closed and food is offered through the bar which is also in the lobby. I like the bar menu which is simple and to the point. It is perfect for me with an apple walnut chicken salad which is delicious and ideal for the summer season. I must make a confession here and just admit that I go for the burger which is made to order and quite tasty and a generous portion. The Bar-B-Q burger comes with huge onion rings that almost makes the burger

The culmination of this new authority is that the Avengers fight each other in a grand finale to the movie. My beef is that the plot is too heavy for a summer blockbuster because it is not lost that the international body seems very much like the United Nations and there is a message in all of this. The final showdown knock out drag out battle between the two factions of the Avengers certainly brings some clever and almost spectacular fighting

scene and a lot of CGI action but to no one’s surprise the ending is simply a set up for the next sequel. Here’s hoping the next summer blockbuster will be better and stronger and a return to the heroes just beating the bad guys. 84 out of 100

Father's Day

This Father’s Day look for an opportunity to give encouragement away.

it maybe you can add it to the summer list.
