Bold Lively Creative Innovative Hello again! Summer’s here with warm evenings (hopefully!), BBQs, and here, at unity, performances from far afield and our very doorstep. Your summer season is stuffed with riches, most of it created by the people of Liverpool. We dip into some of the city’s summer festivals, Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival and Physicalfest, which will bring colour, spectacle, drama, and a new piece especially created by the maverick director (and co-founder of DV8) Nigel Charnock. The story of Jean McConville’s murder by the IRA and her daughter’s attempt to make sense of her death. After 30 years of searching, the Good Friday agreement prompted the IRA to disclose the location of Jean’s grave. From the sights and sounds of Bloody Sunday to the felling of the watchtowers, with traditional music and live mixed samples, this haunting play evokes a lonely beach in County Louth as it examines sacrifice, martyrdom and redemption. Physical theatre incorporates many styles such as mask, acrobatics and dance theatre which use primarily movement to tell stories and ideas. The Crucible

With clear parallels to the McCarthy anti-communist hysteria of 1950’s America, his assessment of people persecuted for failing to conform to the view of the state is still relevant today. One of the greatest playwrights of the 20th century Arthur Miller’s work includes All My Sons, Death of a Salesman and A View from the Bridge. Killing, torturing and suppressing their own people like animals, before engaging in a devastating war a million Iraqi and Iranian soldiers and civilians are estimated to have died.
