Congratulations for being accepted as a student at the University of Liechtenstein and a warm welcome!
We are delighted to welcome you to the student community of the University of Liechtenstein.
I would like to complement you on your decision to choose the University of Liechtenstein to fulfill your academic and professional goals. An exciting time of your life filled with many new experiences is ahead of you. Through your studies and your life on campus you will gain a new awareness of life. We are proud that we will have you, responsible and innovative personalities, in as new students at this – in many ways unique – university. During your studies you will be able to experience involving, personal and open support and assistance. We are pleased to be able to guide and accompany you throughout your studies and wish you a lot of success and fun. Please do take the offers, work hard and commit yourself to what you do, celebrate your success and enjoy the pleasant, cooperative and international atmosphere.
A new chapter of your life is going to start soon, which often brings along a lot of questions. We – the student`s office SPINNEREI – therefore tried to answer some of your possible questions in this handbook. You will find useful information regarding studies, campus life and leisure time on the following pages. Studies always require a lot of effort and learning but we are of the opinion that it is equally necessary to enjoy your time and relax! That`s why we are what we are here for: «events and more» is our slogan and we feel responsible for your student-life outside of lecture rooms. We organize events, excursions, go-kart-tournaments, poker nights and much more for you! But every student initiative is worth just as much as their members, therefore your ideas, inputs and feedback will always be highly appreciated.

Studies – Central Service Desk The Central Service Desk (CSD) directly at the main entrance is your first port of call for any information, as well as for all queries regarding courses or anything else. The staff members at the CSD will help you – or put you in touch with the responsible person. The opening hours during the semester are: Monday till Thursday
8.30 am to 12.00 pm and 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm
Friday:

In addition, the CSD offers the following services: Binding of seminar papers Plastic comb binding spines in various colours and sizes, as well as plastic and cardboard covers for binding seminar papers are available for purchase from the CSD. Use of the binding machine is available free of charge to all students. Student ID / International Student ID The Student IDs can be collected from the CSD approximately one week after submission of the personal data form. The student ID is always issued for the current semester. The ID can be extended each semester after the payment of the student fees is proceeded. The first ID is free of charge – a fee of CHF 20.00 is charged for the replacement of lost IDs. An international student ID can also be ordered from the CSD: Therefore, the following documents are required : a completed personal data form (available at the CSD); a current passport photo and CHF 20.00 in cash. The IDs are generally issued within one working day. Confirmation of Enrolment A confirmation of enrolement is available at the CSD free of charge. Architecture students should please apply directly to the Institute of Architecture and Planning for their confirmation of enrolment. A confirmation of enrolment for the current semester can only be issued once the semester fees have been paid and booked. Transcript of Records A transcript of records can be ordered at the CSD – it usually takes one or two working days for that to be issued. Post The CSD is not a post office! We ask students not to have post sent to the university address. Please use your private address instead!

Studies – Permit
IMPORTANT!!! Students who wish to take up temporary residence in Liechtenstein for the purpose of study need to apply for a short-term residence permit. Please notice that you must register within two weeks of moving to Liechtenstein. To apply for residence permits, Katrin Schmuck and Katharina BĂźchel are your first point of contact. The Coordination Centre for permits will provide you with all relevant information regarding the application procedure. As the residence permit is a short-term residence permit (L-Bewilligung), it can only be issued for a period of one year. Thus, a new application needs to be submitted every year! Students from third countries should remember that they need a visa for Liechtenstein. The University provides a bank guarantee, after a deposit of CHF 3,000 is paid by the student to the University of Liechtenstein. This amount is retained as a security deposit and will not be refunded until your departure. Anyone wishing to take on a job in Liechtenstein during their studies is asked to first contact the Coordination Centre for permits to get informed about special work regulations (working hours, permits, etc.) for students. After completing your degree or when moving away from Liechtenstein, you MUST return the residence permit! For additional information regarding legal requirements and details concerning the application procedure, please contact the Coordination Centre for permits anytime. If you wish to live in Austria or Switzerland, please, keep in mind to go through all of the required procedures in order to be able to live there. The Institute for Entrepreneurship offers several very interesting events, which students can attend at discounted prices or free of charge.
Business Plan Competition The University of Liechtenstein’s Business-Plan Competition is organized jointly by the Institute for Entrepreneurship and the Affiliated Institute SME Centre. In addition to start-up capital, it offers contestants the chance to present their ideas to investors and then move forward with fresh capital. Interested parties are asked to register at www.businessplan-wettbewerb.li.
Entrepreneurs’ Day As the showpiece of entrepreneurship in the Rhine Valley, the Entrepreneurs’ Day is intended to offer recipes for success and impulses for decision-makers, entrepreneurs and people interested in business! That is why the Entrepreneurs’ Day attracts a broad public. Attending this event is a great opportunity to experience first-hand how business ideas are born and to meet important business people from the region. Business Day The Business Day’s target audience are business women from all sectors as well as female managers, entrepreneurs, students but also interested men. Studies – Study Abroad Exchange Semester
Would you like to study, cook and party with students from all around the world? Then take the opportunity to experience all these during our semester abroad. We have a large selection of partner universities in Europe and further abroad for you to choose from. Please take a look at the list via www.uni.li/outgoings. The European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme provides assistance to facilitate a semester abroad. Applications for the winter as well as summer semester must be submitted by 1 March of the respective academic year. For business students, the third semester is considered a good time to go abroad. Important: you need to have already obtained 20 ECTS credits by the time you register for a semester abroad! Students in the master’s degree programme in Architecture are obliged to spend their third semester abroad. The requirements are also listed on the International Office’s homepage.
Foreign internships
An internship abroad will give you the possibility to apply knowledge you have obtained during your studies so far. What makes it so interesting is that you do this in a foreign environment. Additionally, you become acquainted with a new infrastructure that differ to the one you are used. At the same time you become familiar with another hierarchal structure and corporate culture.
Internships within Europe are supported by the Life Long Learning Programme. This involves arranging your own internship. Our website has links to numerous internship exchanges. We would be happy to let you draw upon our contacts and assist you in preparing your application. You will need to submit your application at least four weeks before starting your internship. Studies – Study Abroad Thanks to the friendly and outgoing nature of the Irish people, I have felt welcome in Dublin from the very beginning! Despite Dublin’s relatively small size, it has plenty things to offer – countless pubs, first-class musicians and a variety of sports events every weekend. On the one hand, spending half a year abroad meant a lot of changes and uncertainties. On the other hand, it represented the opportunity to get to know another culture as well as to meet many lovely, interesting and exciting people with different points of views. I discovered Scotland and I did love it. I‘ve learnt how to dance Céilí, drink whisky and stand the rainy and windy weather. Even though my stereotype of Scottish men wearing kilts has been confirmed, I was surprised by the modern and vibrant city life style in Glasgow. Studies – Study Abroad "Countless students from around the world came together in this beautiful city and became friends! Looking back, these have been the best four month of my life. Who we are
We are a small group of students having one thing in common: the interests of students at University of Liechtenstein. Every two years the student union election is taking place. At this election you are entitled to vote for 6 members, which represent all enrolled student in every aspect of the study life. Furthermore, every student interested in taking part has the possibility to become an “operative member” either through election or through an appointment by the ULSV-Board.
What we do
No matter which programme you are enrolled in - Architecture or Business Administration, undergraduate or graduate level - do not hesitate to contact us with any issues or discrepancies. It will be our pleasure to help you. As part of the university-organisation our members participate in all committees which address students’ concerns. In addition to that, we take part in application proceedings for new professors and have a seat in the Senate-committee, which is the highest university committee. You are welcome to approach us with any kind of problem, either by writing an anonymous letter for our “Kummerkasten” next to our main lecture hall (H1) or contact us on our homepage (www.ulsv.li) - or just talk to us in person.

Who we are
In general, people quite often take a passive position in managing their private assets mostly because of their lack of knowledge. Classical products such as regular deposits and saving accounts do not meet the expected return under the current economic conditions. This is mainly due to the high inflation rates. Therefore, our club members are eager to change their investment strategy. The Trading Club is established as a platform to share and discuss various investment strategies.
What we do
The student initiative focuses on the discussion of individual stocks, investment strategies and general monetary policy. We do not exclude any investment from any region or industry. The meetings are placed outside of an institutional framework which makes an unbiased and open discussion possible. The facebook group "Trading Club Liechtenstein" as well as a monthly meeting at University of Liechtenstein serve as communication channels. These are conducted in a relaxed atmosphere. The meetings are often deal with a special topic.

In case you are unfamiliar with investment strategies and trading as such, we are more than happy to introduce you to the basical concepts. Campus – Buddy Programme The Buddy Programme is a support programme aimed to provide assistance to international exchange students, regular international students as well as regular students by assigning them a socalled buddy. Buddies are often local and experienced students who are committed to give a helping hand. In doing so, the integration of the international students into the cultural-, social- and academic environment in Liechtenstein is actively promoted. Furthermore, the Buddy Program encourages the mutually beneficial exchange of ideas and accordingly fosters the intercultural dialogue. The buddies’ task is to provide support for the international students to facilitate a successful and satisfactory start. Often the Buddy Programme has lead to longlasting friendships. Here is an example: Since I arrived in Liechtenstein, I started to meet people from all around the world. I never imagined that one of my best trips of my life would be a farewell trip to Greece with my German buddy as well as my first and best Chinese friend. It's amazing that even though we come from completely different cultures, countries and continents, it feels like we would know each other for quite a while. After five great months, we’re all going home now . It is difficult for each of us to go back. Yet, it is a blessing to know that I will always be welcome in Germany and China. It’s not a goodbye, it’s just a see you in the future…Saludos!

Campus – Buddy Programme
Before I came to Liechtenstein, I never imagined that I would meet so many nice people from all around the world here. It was a wonderful and unforgettable semester abroad, during which I encountered different cultures and met my best friends. There is for sure something magical about Liechtenstein. How else can it happen that this country brought together a Chinese, a Mexican and a German, each coming from completely different continents?We have done a lot of great stuff. together and I will miss this experience a lot. The Buddy Programme is organised to the greatest possible extent by the members of the Buddy Team. In the initial phase, basic assistance is at the focus of each Buddy`s work. Campus – UniSport Five years ago, we established a university sports programme at the University of Liechtenstein. Since then, our main goal is to make it possible to integrate sports in your everyday life. In cooperation with international sports association and local unions, clubs as well as gyms, many discounts are provided for you! The support concept is based on a close-knit support network that includes professionals from both inside and outside the university. Persons of the support team work in the various disciplines. A team of representatives is available as a direct point of contact and to act as intermediaries for students who find themselves in difficult situations. Those seeking advice can freely choose a member of the support office to turn to. As part of the direct contact between the member of the support team and the student, specific support options are explored, and the people/institutions identified that can provide the right support.

Campus – Parking Lots Parking area management on the univerity campus A fee will be charged for the use of all parking areas on the Vaduz Campus parking areas on the Vaduz Campus and at the off-campus locations. The income from the parking area management will be channeled towards a university mobility management scheme as part of the university’s sustainability initiative.

Monday to Friday from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm (Saturday, Sunday and public holidays for free)
What are the rates?
The standard rate for parking across the entire site is CHF 0.50 per hour. A day permit costs CHF 1.50 for students and CHF 2.00 for lecturers and employees. The costs decrease further with semester, monthly and annual parking permits.
How does it work?
Parking fees can be paid in cash at the central parking meter (current standard rate of CHF 0.50/hour). Alternatively, cashless payments can be made using the ParkingCard system, available throughout Switzerland (www.parkingcard.ch).
How do I obtain my ParkingCard permit?
As frequent parkers, students, employees and lecturers can purchase parking permits online or directly from the university. In every case, it is necessary to register the vehicle registration number(s)in advance on the intranet. Tariff

Starting as a freshman and already alumni? Yes, that’s right, because never again during your student lifetime, the exchange between current students and former ones is more productive. Learning from each other, working together and being there for each other, that’s what we want to do with you and for you.
University of Liechtenstein Alumni (ULA) The alumni organization at University of Liechtenstein is the institution for all former students of the bachelor, master, executive and PhD programs. Its duty is to structure, maintain and develop the network, which binds alumni to their “alma mater”. It also provides a platform for knowledge and experience transfer between students, academics and professors of Liechtenstein. We are currently working on the setup of a new network- and communications platform as well as activities and events for alumni and students. The central platform in terms of information and communication is the website www.uni.li/alumni, where you can find current developments and updates on this issues. The ULA supports an active exchange between students and alumni by offering various services. For example, the members of the Alumni Ambassador Programme will be more than welcome to help you with questions or concerns regarding your professional or personal life. Campus – Alumni of the Month
René Finger graduated from the University of Liechtenstein in 2004. The institution was then known as University of Applied Sciences Liechtenstein. In 2008, he set up his own company, the «Finger Architekten sia/fsai“ (www.fingerarchitekten.ch), in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Currently, he designs and manages the construction of a new lab at the University of Applied Sciences in Buchs, Switzerland. So far, this has been the largest project in his career as an architect. Prior to his studies at uni.li, René did an apprenticeship as a draughtsman which he finished in 1998. During his Master degree, he spend a semester abroad at the Universidade Moderna Setubal in Portugal.
His experiences at the University of Liechtenstein and his professional career «It was during my studies at the University of Liechtenstein that I developed a strong passion for architecture and design theory.» In his opinion, architecture is like a language that needs to be properly learned. The good reputation for architectural education, sound student-staff-ratio and small course groups convinced him to study in Liechtenstein. With the help of his lecturers he discovered new ways to see the buildings around him. Through this, René gained a much deeper knowledge of what it means to be an architect. In 2008 he founded his own company and since then he already realized a lot of projects. His secret to success is to put in a lot of heart and soul into projects and also cooperate with the right partners. Today, working as an architecture is a real team effort, in which a strong network of experts and construction specialists is needed.
