The University of Latvia (UL) Vice-rector for exact sciences, life and medical sciences Professor Dr. geol. VALDIS SEGLIŅŠ in his interview conveys the work of University in fulfilling its mission, the influence and capacity of UL in science. UL has always striven to change the world, to lead, rather than follow. This year for the first time commercialization of the research results obtained in the framework of projects was attempted through licensing – UL publicly offered the intellectual property rights for sale to domestic and foreign companies. This year, the traditional Aristotle Festival marks its 50th anniversary. The University of Latvia with the magnitude of this celebration is unique in entire Baltics. Five University of Latvia, Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences polar explorers – Kristaps Lamsters, Jānis Karušs, Māris Krievāns, Agnis Rečs un Reinis Pāvils went on an expedition to the world's largest island – Greenland, to obtain data on glaciers.
