Training Camps Sport Science Support for Endurance Cyclists and Runners
Endurance Training Camp Programme The Endurance Training Camp is a bespoke sport science programme for all endurance athletes. Athletes of all abilities are welcome, ranging from beginners after a new adventure to those more experienced and seeking marginal performance gains.
The aim To utilise sport science support during the Endurance Training Camp to help maximise your full potential within running or cycling. Who is it for? Perfect for individual athletes or teams to spend time training, team building and assessing physiological and psychological aptitudes within our state-of-the-art facilities. The camps are also ideal for groups of friends, clubs, businesses or academies looking for elite-level support to maximise their endurance abilities. Between eight and 12 athletes will be on each camp. The Programme Using advanced sport science application, specialised equipment and theory, the Endurance Training Camp incorporates all endurance disciplines including physical fitness tests, movement assessments, nutritional guidance, strength and conditioning, theory based educational, and training and race day preparation sessions. Location Camps are based in the prime location of Eastbourne. As well as our state-of-the-art laboratories and gymnasium, additional benefits of the area include easy access to the Sussex Downs which allow for running or cycling through coastal and forest routes and hill climbs. Eastbourne’s seaside location also allows for open water swim training, all within the confines of a quiet, idyllic location. Duration Arrive Friday evening (6pm) for a tour of the facilities, greeting refreshments and a welcome seminar. Then a full weekend of testing, fitness assessments, educational workshops and endurance training follows, with an early evening departure on Sunday.
Programme details Running and Cycling Maximal oxygen uptake (V̇O2max) and lactate threshold (LT) assessments, within our BASES accredited laboratory, will be performed. Additionally, numerous running and cycling performance determinants such as economy, efficiency, peak power, onset of blood lactate accumulation (OBLA) and oxygen uptake at LT, will all be recorded and analysed. Strength and Conditioning – Movement Assessment The movement assessment will highlight areas of strength, weakness or imbalance, which can lead to injury. Demonstrating and prescribing corrective techniques and exercises will limit the likelihood of future injuries. Additionally, maintaining and improving key muscle areas for each specific action of the sport will enable you to train and perform faster and harder than before. Baseline Health Screening Anthropometry, body composition, lung function, haematology tests, hydration status and cardiovascular measures will all provide details on general health and wellbeing to ensure no implications will impair your performances or training. Psychology Providing education and useable techniques that will improve your ability to cope with competition pressure and allow for more focused training. You will also be able to set realistic goals and improve motivation through visual and verbal feedback. Training There will be an opportunity to train, taking full advantage of our facilities and expertise, including: cycling classes in the heat and hypoxic chamber, access to the swimming pool and time trial performance in the laboratories. Full bespoke reports of each test and individualised training advice will be sent out after the camp to accompany the athletes during their own training programmes.
Dates Endurance Training Camps will run monthly from May 2014. For group bookings of at least eight people alternative arrangements can be made. Pricing Endurance Training Camps cost £375 per person. Price does not include accommodation however Eastbourne has a wide selection of offer to suit all budgets.
