16 January – 14 February
Parameters is an exhibition of work-in-progress produced by the first cohort of students embarking upon the M.A. Fine Art programme at the University of Chichester in September 2008. It showcases a selection of formative works that display the progression and development of ideas by each individual. The exhibition reveals the varied nature of work produced as students develop and refine single and cross-disciplinary approaches to Fine Art whilst simultaneously investigating the interrelation of visual research and conceptual frameworks through a diverse range of materials and modes of presentation.

The Fallen House and Other Voices 18th February – 21st March
A collaboration between painter Jayne Sandys-Renton and poet Stephanie Norgate. These paintings and poems are the result of a yearlong collaboration. Jayne and Stephanie responded to each other’s work-in-progress, to rough drafts, sketches, early paintings and to places. Jayne’s fascination with the body in the landscape, and Stephanie’s voicing of buildings, water, graffiti and stones play off each other to form different though complementary suggestions in an exhibition where every element is seen as alive and in an intriguing relationship.

Coordinates 26th April – 25th May
The cultivation of skills and methods in visual research forms a key part of the undergraduate study of Fine Art at the University of Chichester. Whilst degree finalists reveal the final outcomes of their programme in the artOne exhibition, Coordinates offers in the Otter Gallery an opportunity to see how the research process takes shape. Sampling student work from Level 1 and Level 2, Coordinates displays a rich range of the individual journeys students embark on through the territory of contemporary art.

29 May – 30 June
The paintings of Carlo Keshishian show the passionate, obsessive, confessional and emotional elements which are intrinsic to his vision of himself and the world around him. Carlo is an artist of Armenian descent and was born and raised in London. Outside In was set up in 2006 by Pallant House Gallery to offer opportunities for marginalised artists. Outside In is trying to create a level playing field where access to the art world is possible for all who create. The aim is not to turn people into ‘artists’, but to challenge the art world to embrace and make itself accessible to a wider range of individuals and ways of making. www.outsidein.org.uk

Gravity Shift th
th
29 September – 26 October
Drawing on the technology usually associated with flight simulators, Gravity Shift presents a series of life-size projections each depicting a dance sequence where the direction of gravity is constantly changing. The project seeks to challenge the notion that the pull of gravity on the human body is absolute and can only act in a fixed downwards direction. It aims to do this through creating a situation which decentres the viewer’s physical awareness through presentation of human movement where the pull of gravity has been dynamically distorted.

Photo Open Winner 29th October – 25th November
Rachel Cunningham is a London based artist whose photographic practice explores the construction of myths through representation. She combines her practice with an interest in art history, especially the place of still life in both photography and painting. She utilizes the detail gained from large format cameras to explore her fascination with texture and surface, a fascination that is itself heightened by the intangible nature of photographic detail. Studying the Arts at Chichester
Students at the University of Chichester thrive on the close-knit friendly community of a compact campus. This positive and rewarding environment allows students to form lasting friendships with their peers and lecturers very quickly. At Chichester you really do feel part of university life, and one that you can fully participate in should you wish to do so.
Pairings 1st December – 26th January 2011
Pairings is an innovative exhibition which explores collaborative practice and the exchange of ideas across different craft media. The ‘pairing’ of practitioners, working together, or exchanging material and ideas, is intended to give each the freedom to explore, to affirm the richness of adventure and risk taking. This process of collaboration seeks to bring craft to a new audience by linking it to areas not previously associated with the subject.
