The Summer Term codes are 201251 (First Session), 201252 (Second Session) and 201253 (full Summer Term). 1. Determine the courses you want to take. 2.
It is recommended — though not required — that you meet with your advisor to ensure you are scheduled for the correct courses.

4. There are two registration methods: a. Add all courses to a worksheet similar to a shopping card): Locate your preferred course section and click the box next to the preferred CRN (course registration number) to add it to your worksheet. Once you’ve selected all of the courses you want to take, submit your schedule.
This method allows you to build an entire schedule at once; only after submission do you see potential registration errors and closed classes.
b. Search and register for courses one at a time: Click the “register” button each time you select a course.
This method of registering ensures that you will have a seat in the class if no other errors or section closings prevent you from registering. This method is recommended when you are aware that space in a particular course is limited or close to being full.
Students may change their classes online prior to the first day of the term by selecting the Add or Drop Classes link under the “Registration Tools” channel. More details about registering online are available on the Academics tab at http://porches.udayton.edu. You may use Web Registration: • If you have attended UD in the past year • If you are newly accepted and have confirmed your acceptance or if you have been reactivated by your school/college • To process drop/adds • To review or print your class schedule (times, building, room)
You may not use Web Registration: • If you are a first time non-degree student • If you have a registration hold • For change of level • To register or add/drop for audit Mail or Walk-in Registration begins March 29. Upon receipt of your class schedule you will find a registration form in the back of this book. If you have any demographic changes, please go to registrar.udayton.edu, general information, Demographic Info Change Form. If you have taken a graduate course at the university, complete sections 1 & 3. If you are a first-time graduate student (either degree or non-degree), you need to complete sections 1, 2 and 3. Fill in requested courses, fold form, seal and mail to the Registration Office, St. Mary Hall, Room 411, 300 College Park, Dayton, Ohio, 45469-1668, as printed on the reverse side of the form. First time non-degree students may now register on the Web by going to adulteducation.udayton.edu beginning March 30. It is imperative that we have your current email address. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Registration Office at 937-229-3723 or 1-800-259-8864.
Drop/Adds By Web You may drop/add using the Web until the first day of each session. Beginning the first day of each session, you must process a Drop/ Add Form. If you are unable to pick up a form, call your Dean/Advisor/ Registration Office to process the change. We recommend that all students contact their advisor/chairperson before making any course selections. Drop/adds made without discussion with your advisor, which may result in non-fulfillment of requirements, will not be corrected by substitutions and waivers.
EXAM POLICY FINAL EXAMINATION POLICY The University regards testing as a primary means of quantifying the performance of a student and ensuring academic rigor in the curriculum. As part of the overall evaluation process, students are required to complete rigorous final examinations in all subjects except laboratory or studio courses. Alternative evaluation procedures may be substituted for a final examination with the approval of the Department Chair. Absence from a final examination will incur a minimum penalty of a zero grade for that examination, unless the instructor decides to permit a make-up. No new material may be introduced in a course after the last scheduled class meeting. Final examinations should be given at the time scheduled in the composite for each term, except in the following cases:
1. Grades for graduating students must be reported during examination week at a time determined by the registrar. When this requirement conflicts with the final examination schedule in the composite, faculty are asked to administer the examination at an earlier time agreeable to both the students and the instructor. The final examination must also be offered at the time scheduled in the composite for the benefit of the other students in the class. 2. When a student has more than two final examinations scheduled for one day, faculty are encouraged to accommodate the individual student on an alternate day agreeable to both the student and the instructor. The student must make the request by the last scheduled class meeting.
3. A block examination is a common examination that covers several sections of the same class, taught by different instructors, for the purpose of establishing uniform scale of achievement. Any exception must be made by the Dean. To avoid conflicts, block examinations are scheduled through the Registration Office. In all cases these exceptions should not have the effect of reducing the substance of the course material. Students must have access to graded examinations for a period of six months after the examination has been given.

Graduate program in RELIGIOUS STUDIES M.A. in Theological Studies This program provides a strong theological foundation for students interested in pursuing further graduate work or for those students who wish to deepen the theological grounding of their ministries. Students will develop an understanding of biblical sources, historical developments, and contemporary issues in theology and morality, especially in the Roman Catholic tradition. The program may be completed in one of three ways: (1) 36 hours of course work with the submission of a research paper completed as part of one of their courses; this paper will be reviewed by a member of the faculty who did not teach the course for which the paper was originally submitted; (2) 33 hours of course work with a 3 hour project reviewed by a faculty committee; or (3) 30 hours of course work with a 6 hour thesis, evaluated by a faculty committee and defended orally.
M.A. in Pastoral Ministry This program helps the student to prepare for a variety of ministries in the contemporary Church. It prepares people for positions in catechesis and religious education, and in family, parochial, and campus ministry. The program has three parts: (1) theological foundation (12– 15 hours); (2) basic principles for effective ministry (3 – 9 hours); and (3) practice and study of specific ministries, with opportunity for a practicum.

Ph.D. in Theology The Department of Religious Studies is delighted to announce a Ph.D. in Theology focusing on the U.S. Catholic Experience. Graduates of the program will have the ability to do rigorous theological research via the program’s distinctive integration of methodologies in particular, strong interaction with the social sciences with a focus on theology developed from discovering, analyzing, understanding, and proposing creative transformations in the practices/ praxis of Catholicism as it is multiply inculturated in the United States. The program requires 90 hours beyond the B.A., including comprehensive exams in biblical studies, historical theology, theology and ethics, and the students’ dissertation area; appropriate research languages and skills; and up to 30 dissertation hours. Both M.A. programs require 36 semester hours and a GPA of 3.0 for graduation. The degree may be completed in the summer terms only or throughout the year, ordinarily within seven years of matriculation. Although there is no language requirement, language proficiency is particularly recommended for those preparing for the Ph.D. Students may take courses in the International Marian Research Institute (including a concentration in Marian Studies) and use their world-renowned library.
