Christine Rogers ’22
Growing up, Christine Rogers ’22 always knew she wanted to work in the medical field. She came to UHart to find her path and hone her skills in the BS in Radiologic Technology program in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP). An Honors student, Christine graduated having accepted a full-time job at Hartford Hospital as a CT scan technologist. The support she received on campus and the exposure to real-life clinical opportunities have prepared her to enter the workforce with confidence.
All radiologic technology students complete clinical rotations at one of UHart’s 15 affiliate partners, including major hospitals like Hartford Hospital, and private imaging offices. This hands-on experience gave Rogers the opportunity to apply what she’d learned in the classroom. Radiologic Technology is a dynamic, fast-paced profession that combines the use of sophisticated medical imaging technology with compassionate care of the ill and injured. As a CT technologist, Rogers is a member of a team that helps diagnose and treat all types of pathologies and conditions.
AT THE CLINICAL SITES, I MADE A LOT OF CONNECTIONS THAT ACTUALLY GOT ME MY INITIAL JOB AT HARTFORD HOSPITAL WHILE A JUNIOR IN COLLEGE.”
Extend beyond the classroom.
Our dynamic curriculum, with a focus on experiential learning opportunities outside of the classroom, prepares today’s students to excel in multiple environments—challenging them to innovate, grow, and evolve in step with the changing nature of our world.
After learning about different cultures and broadening her knowledge and interest in foreign affairs, Benedicta chose to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea, at Yonsei University’s Underwood International College, where she took courses in diplomacy and international negotiations.
The Honors Program has prepared me for my future as I now have experience not only dedicating a significant amount of time to a specific subject within my field of interest, but also working in a professional research setting. Completing a project under the NASA CT Space Grant, while working with such highly experienced individuals, was an incredible opportunity.”
UHart is a community, and that is my favorite part about it. Whether you are in clubs, organizations, or classes, it always feels like you are part of this big family. Everyone is willing to help you succeed in and out of the classroom.”
At UHart, it’s not all textbooks and lectures.

Your academic journey is more than just attending class; it’s questioning, investigating, and discovering solutions as part of a community of learners. Beautiful, state-ofthe-art spaces provide innovative and interactive environments for our students to learn, collaborate, and further their knowledge.
“I immediately felt UHart was the home where I belonged and wanted to pursue a career at. Having smaller class sizes allows students to meet professors in person and form a one-onone bond. DOCTOR OF PHYSICAL THERAPY
Matt Glassoff ’21, D’24
Honors student Matt Glassoff ’21, D’24 worked hard on his senior project—but not in a classroom or laboratory. Instead, he was out on the athletic fields working with UHart’s baseball team, conducting research to help improve the team’s batting performance. Matt is a student in the combined Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Physical Therapy program. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in 2021 and will complete the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program in 2024.
Matt’s project investigates the relationship between players’ hip/trunk mobility and exit velocity, or how fast the ball comes off the bat, and launch angle of the ball. His research aims to find correlations between batting performance and physical factors, which the coaches can use to maximize players’ onfield results. To collect data for his project, he put the players through a baseball-specific movement screening to measure their hip and trunk mobility. Players were scored as they performed five different exercises. After their screening, each player took on-field batting practice. The exit velocity and launch angles of their hits were recorded using a motion camera system called Rapsodo.
While Matt expects to work with many different patient populations in his career, he said working with athletes would be a “dream.”
The experience and knowledge I have gained during this project is unlike anything taught in a classroom setting. Working one-on-one with a faculty member allowed me to not only learn efficiently, but also build a great lifelong relationship and connection. Professors at UHart treat student research as if it is their own, which ensures success from the very beginning.”

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
JOHN G. MARTIN AND MARIAN A. BILLS SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTAlberto Benitez ’22
Alberto Benitez ’22 , an Architectural Design + Technology major, was the 2021 recipient of the John G. Martin and Marian A. Bills Scholarship which sends one University of Hartford graduate to a top UK university for their graduate studies. Benitez is pursuing a master’s degree in Architecture at the University of Nottingham. He hopes that this opportunity will make him a wellrounded individual and give him a strong direction for the rest of his career.
Reflecting upon his recognition as the recipient of this scholarship, Benitez felt validated that his hard work has paid off. “I have focused a lot on my studies and Architecture is a really challenging and competitive program, so for the scholarship committee to deem me worthy of this award, it means everything.”
Alberto had the opportunity to really grow as a person while at UHart. He graduated with a direction and purpose. He originally came to UHart because he was impressed with the programs that the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture had to offer, and stayed because he “loves the people, the campus, and the energy—plus the campus lawn and flowers in the springtime are intoxicating.” He credits the architecture program for helping him to develop skills that he never thought he would have, and connections and relationships that he will be able to call upon for years to come.
Benitez took advantage of the accelerated graduate program offered in UHart’s architecture department and took a few graduate level courses during his senior year, giving him the opportunity to graduate prepared for the next chapter of his studies.
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM, ALBERTO SERVED AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE PING PONG CLUB, WHICH HE JOINED HIS FIRST YEAR. DURING HIS TIME HERE, HE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE CAMPUS ACTIVITIES THAT UHART HAS TO OFFER—SOME FAVORITES INCLUDE BINGO AND FOOD TRUCK FRIDAYS.

An Honors student pursuing a major in criminal justice and minors in sociology and Spanish, Dana is planning to graduate early and wants to work to reform the criminal justice system, particularly with regard to how it impacts marginalized and oppressed people.
Dana says an internship at a public defender’s office has connected her with people and resources that further prepare her for her career goals. She says the internship included interviewing clients in lock-up, reading police reports, sitting in on hearings, and more.
“I have been given advice on taking the LSAT and on applying for law schools,” she says of the experience. I have also learned various legal terms and procedures that will help me in my studies.”
Alec Boyd ’23

Boyd places emphasis on getting involved in anything outside the classroom.
