IT’S YOUR FUTURE. YOU LEAD THE WAY.
At the University of Hartford, we encourage students to explore their passions, discover what drives them, and define their own future. There is no one path, one career, or one way to achieve success. Our students’ academic journeys and professional aspirations are as diverse as the mark they each will leave on the world.
People really aren’t kidding when they say you will remember college for the rest of your life.”
A vibrant campus community. Access to opportunities. A convenient location.

Making an Investment in the Future of UHart’s Students
Stanley Black & Decker, Pratt & Whitney, and other industry leaders in Connecticut are stepping up to make significant investments in the University of Hartford.
Through a new transformational gift of $3 million, Stanley Black & Decker is doubling down on its commitment by providing scholarships to students from 29 towns within the Greater Hartford region, vital funds that will address rising unmet need among these students. These students, who are selected each year, join the ranks of scholars like Julian, who enjoy access to Stanley Black & Decker employees for monthly mentoring sessions, résumé-building workshops, and leadership development programs. They are also guaranteed first-round interviews for internships.

Julian is one of the inaugural recipients of the Stanley Black & Decker “Be a Force for Good” Scholarship. He was paired with a Stanley Black & Decker employee for monthly mentoring sessions, took tours of the company’s locations, and attended résumé-building workshops and leadership development programs. He also participated in an internship at the company and took a full-time position with them after graduation.
These students have come to the University of Hartford with a thirst for knowledge, and it is our duty to ensure they leave prepared to do good in the world. I can think of no greater investment than preparing our students for success.”

BACHELOR OF HEALTH SCIENCES
Tyanna Stewart ’24
Tyanna Stewart ’24, a first-generation student, always harbored a passion for health care but initially lacked a specific career goal. She was attracted to the University of Hartford, where she had the chance to explore various opportunities. Engaging actively in campus clubs and organizations, Tyanna discovered her calling in community-based health care, prompting her to declare a major in health sciences the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP), with a minor in psychology.
A pivotal moment for Tyanna occurred during her involvement in a community service day as a member of The Women’s Advancement Initiative’s LEAD program, inspiring her pursuit of public health. Grateful for the support from ENHP and dedicated professors, she now feels well-prepared for both graduate school and the workforce. “The health science curriculum is great. The emphasis on health care concepts and lab sciences makes it so that students have a broader array of career options,” she says.
Beyond the classroom, Tyanna fully embraced her UHart experience by participating in alumni panel sessions, networking events, and activities hosted by the Career Studio. “I think having those interactions not only encourages students like me, but it gives us a networking opportunity that could lead to something greater, like a job or internship opportunity,” she says.
Tyanna’s engagement extended to serving as an intern for The Women’s Advancement Initiative and a public health fellow at the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District. Her fellowship experience, including the development of a public health intervention for implementation in the spring, solidified her passion for public health.
After graduation, she plans to pursue a Master of Public Health degree and continue her involvement with local community organizations through volunteering.
This fellowship experience has helped me prepare for my future in public health by confirming this work as my passion, giving me the daily experience of what this work entails, and exposing me to the tasks and expectations of someone in this role.
Your learning experience will not be just textbooks and lectures.
Inside the classroom, our faculty offer experience and expertise, enhancing a curriculum that is focused on preparing students for their careers—and their lives. But, your academic journey is more than just attending class; it’s questioning, investigating, and discovering solutions as part of a community of learners. Beautiful, state-of-the-art spaces in places like our newest academic building, the Hursey Center, provide innovative and interactive environments for our students to learn, collaborate, and further their knowledge.
The Honors Program is such a fantastic way to take advantage of your college experience. It is the same course load, but with such unique additions. Engaging in interesting course topics, conferences, and other Honors based opportunities is a great way to gain an overall sense of what you really want to achieve during and post college.”
Imagine combining work-study, a good deed, and international travel, all in one interesting project. Five University of Hartford students do not have to imagine it at all; those are precisely the elements they combined in a recent trip abroad.
Two UHart students went to Kenya and three to Peru, to help assure that patients in need of prosthetic devices were well served and to assist the local health care teams in becoming more self-sufficient in their treatment obligations. They also received real-world experience in their chosen field.

OF PHYSICAL THERAPY
Matt Glassoff ’21, D’24
This profession is the perfect intersection of medicine, personal interactions, and what I believe to be the solution to many health care issues we are faced with today. I think there is a lot more physical therapists can be doing in society and I’m excited to be part of it.”
Matt Glassoff, a recent graduate in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, is on the path to remarkable success. Matt has made significant strides in the physical therapy field and within the UHart community.
Upon entering the doctoral program, Matt made a pivotal decision to join the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Serving as vice president of the student special interest group within the Connecticut state chapter, Matt quickly immersed himself in the profession, forging invaluable connections and gaining insight into the larger landscape of physical therapy.
Elevating his involvement, Matt was elected as the APTA student chief delegate by his peers, representing more than 30,000 physical therapy students nationwide at the prestigious APTA House of Delegates. “Representing the voice of students was by far one of the most humbling experiences of my life thus far and showed me how important professional advocacy is,” Matt says.
Matt has known that he would like to be a physical therapist since eighth grade. Inspired by his own experiences as a patient and fueled by a love for human movement and health, Matt found his calling in physical therapy.
With a wealth of clinical experience acquired through rotations at various health care facilities that UHart partners with, Matt has had the opportunity to experience different stages of the health care system and develop an understanding of the full scope of being a physical therapist. “After having a diverse clinic experience, I feel prepared to enter any kind of setting knowing that I will be able to be successful in it,” Matt says. Whether in outpatient orthopedics, acute care, specialized rehabilitation, or beyond, Matt’s diverse skill set and unwavering dedication set him apart as a rising star in his field.
As Matt prepares to embark on his career, his UHart journey has equipped him with the skills, experiences, and determination to thrive as a compassionate and competent physical therapist. With boundless potential and a steadfast commitment to excellence, Matt Glassoff is poised to leave an indelible mark on the field of physical therapy and beyond. He plans to enter the workforce in the Northeast region.
The physical therapy program at UHart did a great job in finding me clinical settings that met my goals and desires. By the time I hit the clinic, I felt very prepared to be successful in any clinical environment I was placed in—regardless of the situation.

Through Hillyer, I was also able to join the Hillyer Honors Program, which offers interesting classes.”
BACHELOR OF VISUAL COMMUNICATION DESIGN
Millie Hamlin ’25
Hartford Art School student and visual communication design major Millie Hamlin designed the 2024 Day of Giving stickers. Day of Giving is an annual event that celebrates UHart, as it brings together alumni, students, parents, and friends who raise funds for UHart students, scholarships, and programs.
In addition to designing the Day of Giving stickers, Millie’s design work can also be visible in other areas of campus. Visitors to the University of Hartford’s Joseloff and Silpe galleries are welcomed with a new logo designed by Millie last year.
“Design has the power to make us feel understood and appreciated,” Millie explains. “If I can help give people a sense of belonging with my work, that would be extremely fulfilling.”
The Gallery logo is part of the Hartford Art School’s branding campaign, developed as a way to help celebrate the unification of the Donald and Linda Silpe Gallery and the Joseloff Gallery under what the school calls a single and harmonious identity. With its colors and contours, Millie’s logo symbolizes the collective artistic spirit of all the galleries. It is used in marketing purposes on behalf of gallery events, as well as on gallery merchandise.
With the school’s help, Millie has made a name for themselves outside of campus, after taking the lead to create a logo, business cards, and other items for Shine Your Light CT. This branding campaign was under the guidance of Civic Design Professor Michael Scricco. Shine Your Light is an organization that, through partnerships with other groups, helps communities explore creativity and promote self-expression.
In addition to the many design projects on campus, Millie is involved in other University organizations. Millie is currently the creative intern at the Women’s Advancement Initiative office, where they get to see the behind-the-scenes of how an organization supports alumna, donors, and board members. Millie is also the co-founder and president of the University’s first graphic design club, .JPEG. This graphic design club is another highlight of their college experience, as Millie says, “I get to collaborate with so many talented people. It is also not just for design majors, which I think is something so amazing.”
Creativity doesn’t have to be just for art majors! I think my college experience so far has been incredible in that I am so happy to be involved in so many different programs, organizations, and projects.
Our campus is thriving.
They mean it when they say you will leave feeling confident, competent, and connected. I am incredibly grateful for the support and opportunities available to me.”

UHart student-athletes excel in competition and strive for championships, while also being honors students, active in clubs, running for student government, landing a dream internship—even studying abroad! The result? They graduate prepared to be forward thinkers, passionate leaders, and active members in their communities.
Our goal is to create the best possible student-athlete experience for present and future Hawks. Above all, our student-athletes compete in the classroom, on their playing surface, and in the community, so that they are prepared for life beyond their sport. ”

Intramural and Club Sports
The University of Hartford offers a wide range of sports-related activities including both intramural and club sports in areas like soccer, flag football, softball, pickleball, volleyball, and much more! Take a break from academic work to meet new friends, compete in a friendly atmosphere, and stay healthy.
Grant Family Track and Field
Thanks to a $1 million gift from the Grant family, this striking addition to the University’s athletics complex, built to NCAA standards, features a 400-meter, eight-lane “full pour” track that surrounds an all-purpose grass field that will accommodate team practices, intramural sports, track and field meets, and the campus community as a whole.

My favorite thing about UHart is how easily accessible my professors, advisors, and even other faculty members are. While at other colleges it would take weeks to get to talk to the president of the university or the dean, at UHart I see them walking around campus nearly every day. This has created a sense of community that helps me to thrive not just as an activist, but also as a student.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND SOCIOLOGY
Royston Lester ’26
A criminal justice major with a minor in sociology, and a member of UHart’s Pre-Law Advising Program, Royston’s academic journey has been guided by a passion for understanding the complexities of crime, law, and society. His decision to major in criminal justice reflects his fascination with the intricacies of the criminal justice system. “I want to pursue a career as a criminal defense lawyer, so it made sense to study criminal justice before law school.”
The interdisciplinary nature of Royston’s studies, combined with his involvement in extracurricular activities such as the Student Government Association (SGA), UHart’s Red Key Society (campus tour guides), Criminal Justice Club, A&S Student Ambassadors, and the Pre-Law Society, has provided him with a well-rounded understanding of the societal factors that contribute to crime and inequality.
Royston’s engagement in campus activities, particularly in the role as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice chair in SGA, demonstrates his commitment to fostering a more inclusive and equitable campus community. Each week, Royston hosts Community Conversations in Gengras Student Union’s Hawk Lounge. “To date, we have covered education on important history like the Harlem Renaissance,
Native American heritage, transgender remembrance, religion, Black inventions, disability awareness, and much more. To have a more impactful delivery and foster collaboration, we invite representatives from different clubs and organizations to sit with us and engage the students.”
Through initiatives like Community Conversations, Royston has worked to promote education and celebration of diversity on campus. This year, he was recognized for his community involvement by receiving the MLK Beloved Community Award. “Winning the MLK award is definitely one of my best moments at UHart,” he says. “I was ecstatic to know I was being honored with such an award, reminding me that my efforts didn’t go in vain, and my voice didn’t go unheard.”
Royston’s passions go beyond academics. He is also drawn to the world of fashion, having made a debut in the modeling arena for New York Fashion Week. While his primary focus remains on pursuing a career in law, his interest in fashion hints at his multifaceted personality with diverse interests and talents.
Poised to Pursue a Bright Future
The Impact of a UHart Education
As a University, we have been able to cultivate partnerships locally, regionally, and globally— giving our students the opportunity to take advantage of internships, career advancement, and lifelong connections in their chosen industry.
NATALIE VARGAS ’24
Natalie first worked as an intern for Cronin to help set up marketing campaigns, ensuring brand safety, and reporting on campaign performance. This internship turned into a fulltime position after graduation where she now has much more responsibility and is generally a go-to resource for discussing clients’ whole media plans.
The portfolio-ready work, projects, and presentations I made throughout college, have gotten me to where I am today.”
I believe fundamentally in the power and promise of higher education to transform lives. When students graduate from UHart, they are confident in their ability to think, solve problems, appreciate differences, and add value. They are positioned to lead successful and purposedriven lives in a diversity of professions and communities.”

Hawks Landed
Each Hawk is unique and forges their own path at UHart.
Some students go on to internships or graduate school, where they can continue to expand upon and apply their classroom learning. Other Hawks soar to permanent positions in the workforce where they can hone their craft and follow their aspirations.
Whether it’s a traditional or alternative path, UHart’s Hawks have landed in some pretty amazing places.
REILLY KEEGAN ’24, M’25
Reilly Keegan is a Barney School student enrolled in the 3+1 program, where she will receive both her bachelor’s degree and MBA in just four years. She is a marketing major and sports management minor, which led to her summer internship with the Hartford Yard Goats Minor League Baseball team.
There’s nothing I would change about my college career. I feel all I have experienced has helped me become who I am today and will help me when I am in the workforce.”
REILLY KEEGAN ’24 | MARKETING MAJOR | SPORTS MANAGEMENT MINOR
TIMOTHY WANG ’24
UHart has given me the ability to get into my profession while still being a student. They have helped me understand how to dive deeper into my career after I graduate. ”
TIMOTHY WANG ’24 | ARCHITECTURE DESIGN + TECHNOLOGY
Timothy Wang has a passion for architecture because he believes design can help solve contemporary issues. By the time he graduated in May, he already had real-world experience in the field through two internships with TSKP Studio in Hartford and HAPi studio. He says his internships have taught him the language that architects use to communicate and thrive in the profession.
LESLIE WALKER ’19
Hartt truly gave me every opportunity it could.”
At a young age, Leslie Walker knew she wanted a career in the performing arts, as she dreamed of someday performing on Broadway. In the last year, Walker accomplished this goal, as she made her Broadway debut in the revival of Funny Girl as an original cast member, appeared with her cast on Good Morning America, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, and attended the 2023 Tony Awards.

EMMANUEL DIAZ SURIEL ’23
Suriel’s Project Engineering internship at Collins Aerospace provided a valuable opportunity to apply classroom learning. His favorite memory from the experience was visiting the Pratt & Whitney facilities where he saw the engines he worked with.
