This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of business subjects and related skills in preparation for a career in management in world-class hotels, country clubs, theme parks, leisure centres, exhibition venues or catering services. The course aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills appropriate for the hospitality industry. It ensures that you are in the best position to go directly into challenging and rewarding positions within multinational organisations nationally or globally.

You’ll be taught by lecturers who have experience in the industry, and who will help you explore areas of marketing, human resources and operations management alongside hospitality specific knowledge.

We were one of the first universities in the UK to offer a degree in Hospitality Management and you’ll find our graduates in management roles around the world. We have excellent links to hospitality firms such as Red Carnation hotels, Compass catering, White Lodging (USA), Taj hotels and palaces and many restaurants. We have a range of guest speakers. These are industry experts that impart their knowledge about contemporary issues in the industry. Extensive use is made of case studies to aid learning, particularly in the final year of the course.

• The Hospitality Industry is the 3rd biggest employer in the UK, accounting for 3.2 million jobs (UK Hospitality, 2018)

• Hospitality has an important role to play in Travel, Tourism, Health, Education and Leisure (BBC, 2022)

• In 2019 the hospitality sector contributed £59.3 billion in Gross Value Added to the UK economy, around 3.0% of total UK economic output (UK Parliament, 2022)

Placements

We have a fantastic range of domestic and international placements available to you during your studies. Previous students have undertaken placements in companies like Marriott Hotels, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Hilton, White Lodgings, De Vere and Park Plaza as well as Greenwich Country Club in Connecticut, Broken Sound Club in Florida and Ovolo in Hong Kong.
